Why is there a Google Search ad for the new Liverpool kit on this site?

We frequently get emails on this subject expressing outrage that we're profiting by advertising Liverpool gear so I'll take this opportunity to address the issue on the open forum and overlook your very topical
nom de plume.
We don't get to choose what ads are served up on our site by Google — the adverts are context-sensitive, that is to say that they are tailored to the content of the site to which they are delivered.
Everton is in Liverpool, we often play Liverpool FC, references are made in the various comments by fans to Liverpool the City and Liverpool the club all the time so it stands to reason that those keywords will trigger ads related to the Dark Side. You'll notice we also get ads related to confectionary because of the word "Toffee" — we didn't ask for those either.
What we can do, however, is block ads for certain sites but we need to know those URLs in advance. This is where you, dear offended reader, come in. Send us the URL (website address) of the Liverpool-related site being advertised and we can add it to the list of sites in our "competitor ad filter".
You also have two other options: 1) turn a blind eye to the ads or 2) even better, click on them! We get more revenue from ads that are actually clicked on. This is more important now than ever because we have just upgraded our hosting account and are now running at a loss to provide this site to you for free, gratis. Hopefully you've noticed that the site is much more stable than it was a couple of weeks ago when we were plagued by constant "Service Unavailable" messages.
Like I said last time people were offended by this, if the ads are on here then LFC are making no money from them. That’s fine by me.
Lyndon, with this...

..in mind, might I suggest a site name-change or amendment?
www.naughtyhousewivestoffeeweb.com or maybe www.sexynursestoffeeweb.com
Just a thought..ish.
There are other (better paying) options than adSense.
Lyndon - your para re links.
Does this mean that if we move to Kirkby, the ads are less likely to occur???
Does it really matter what adverts get flashed on the site? I don't come to look at the adverts.
Maybe thousands of kopites come on here to view a decent fansite?
If you think about it, these advertisers are completely missing their target audience and are putting in Toffeeweb’s pockets... Seems okay to me...
Anyone who is bothered by ads should use Firefox with the AdBlock add-in
Just clicked on every ad I could find on this site for you Lyndon. Every little bit helps! And seeming as I’m tight, this is the best way to support the site without bein outta pocket! Giving something back to TW!!!!!

Try scrolling down to the ’support us’ pop down menu on the TW home page you can never reach it as the curser cuts back into the headline underneath. No wonder TW runs at a loss, you must think we’re all tight.

Too be fair, only a problem on the home page, easily solved on others.
