The other one with the afro returns

Just been announced that Jo has signed on loan for next season on the official site. I have to admit that I'm pretty chuffed about this loan signing as i think he showed some excellent promise from what I was able to see of him last season.

If we can get him firing on all cylinders, I truly believe he'll be getting the 20 goals next year. Happy days in my opinion.

I can't say how underwhelmed I am by his return however he is a blue for another year. Hopefully a pre-season behind him, a bit of confidence and the feeling of being wanted will transform him from the player he was last season.

I’m sorry we haven’t signed Jo on a permanent contract. He will become a world class striker and next season he will be well out of our price range. If DM uses him properly, ie, not as a lone striker, he’ll be the 20-goal striker we’ve been looking for.

I think Jo did well last year considering that for the majority of his time with us he was the only fit striker. I think it’s a good bit of business as he still has a lot to prove and with him, Saha and Vaughan all getting a full pre-season in this summer, and Yakubu and Anichebe to return, we’ll have some good options up front.

I am delighted at getting Jo back again on a season-long loan. Whilst not quite acceding to Andy Crookesesque tags like ’world-class,’ Jo certainly showed flashes of class in his spell with us last season. All things being equal his development will continue and I believe there is a real chance we will see an even better Jo this season. He holds it up well, has great touch and can bring others into play, whilst possessing a scorching left footed shot as well. Also, he showed in his cameo of lone striker last year that he has the physical presence to cope in the Prem which is more than can be said for a lot of hyped-up foreign strikers who fail in this league for that very reason.

The best of all is that this deal is vitually no-risk, as (if Sky news is to be believed) we have agreed an option to buy at an already determined price at the end of the season. This way if he does bang in 20 like some have suggested, then his price will remain set, and we will all be celebrating another bit of Moyes transfer magic. If he doesn’t, then he goes back to City and we get him off the wage bill. I believe that Jo will be a fantastic acquisition and fits the bill in the "young, hungry and talented" players category that seems a hallmark of what David Moyes is trying to achieve at Everton.

If nothing else his partnership with the Yak could be mouthwatering!

I am mildly excited by this signing. But what I find strange is the original Jo loan signs... no he doesn’t... oh yes he does now. I believe that we have now negotiated an option to buy him at the end for a fee which would be less than market value due to his wages this year — a la Pienaar.

Don’t be surprised...

I liked Jo as an Everton player and am glad to welcome him back. More importantly, I thought Moyes rated him and was playing the game to keep him, and so it turns out. As David just said, this makes for a pretty much a win-win situation for us if the full price has already been agreed.

How will Moyes deploy him? Who knows, but the 22-year-old Brazil international will be much happier tonight knowing that he has the chance to show what he’s got — and that’s not only skills and goals, but attitude and team play.

I wish him all the best.

Bottom line is we’ve just signed a young talented striker who was worth £19m this time last year... for free (if only for a year). Now lets get Naughton signed and move on to looking for a pacey right mid!

Andy Crooks - Andy I believe EFC have an £8 million option on Jo after this season.

Jo will be used as bait for Lescott, who will not move until January... when Jags will be back — watch this space!

Got to remember that Moyes always wanted him, just wasn’t willing (or able) to stump up the £18m odd that City did to bring him over.

For that fact alone, I’m delighted to see him back — we’ve basically had another club sign a player for us.

Another bonus — he won’t be cup-tied for any of the comps this time around!...

A potentially great striker (YouTube him when he was at CSKA) full pre-season, great bit of business. Fee agreed with Naughton just personal terms, now things already look a lot better than last summer.

Garry Martin ,

I for one will not be watching your space; why? Because it makes even less sense to sell him in January, that is when we lose Yobo for up to six weeks in the African Cup of Nations. To then purchase another centre-half and expect him to slot right in, even if it is only as cover for Rodwell or another established player, would be a huge risk. If Lescott leaves, it will be during the current window. Jo may have been a sweetener for a deal but let's hope not (Unless we hold them to an absoloute ransom.)

As above, great bit of business really.

Jo is a player we originally wanted but now we will have him for a total of 18 months for no transfer fee. If he shines, then this reported £8 mill option is very attractive indeed. He is certainly not world class, as yet any road, but he has a real knack of shaking himself free in the box. Be nice if he could use that right leg beyond not falling over, however. He also has an excellent disposition on the field, and I believe he loves playing for Everton.

He dovetails with our team spirit, which, if you recall, really gelled with Yak’s injury, and our enforced 4-6-0 formation. This will be one of the many questions that need to be answered with Yak’s return... what has he lost status post his Achilles injury, will our new spirit inspire him to look more arsed on the pitch?

Jo is an excellent option, now, whichever formation Moyes selects.

£18 mill Brazilian international striker who knocked in 5 in 12 games for us without the benefit of a full pre season getting to know how the team plays? With an option to buy (if it works out) at £8 mill? I will have that as a good bit of business any day of the week.

I believe Moyes has only signed Jo after failing to sign Owen! I still thought Owen could've been useful but am much happier to have Jo. Owen has lost a lot of pace, though he is still a useful finisher and sadly he’ll likely score for Utd.

Jo has a lot of potential and talent. He could become a massive signing. He still has a lot of room for improvement but I just feel he fits in with the Goodison family.

Hope he does well.

Would love a good right midfielder now. Wouldn’t mind any of Fabian Delph, Moutinho, Defour or Tuncay Sanli. I think that all of these players are adaptable enough to play in a few positions and would add some creativity.

I’m really pleased that we’ve managed to strike a loan deal with City. But then they’d barely get anything back for him if they tried to sell. If the murmurings about a "right to buy" end of season are true, then that would be great.

I wonder whether Moyes might try him on the right, same way Anichebe was deployed a couple of times last season...
