Ready To Rekindle Your 3pm Saturday Fix? - Then Think Again

Comments (6)

All set for the season? Can't wait to get back in the old routine?

Think again.

It's pretty startling to peruse the fixture programme for the new season now that the televised games are listed (and firmly believing we will qualify for the Thursday night Europa League).

By the time Santa has dropped off his sack of prezzies, we will be have played a mighty THREE Saturday 3pm games home AND away.

These are Sat 17th Oct v Wolves (home) Sat 31st Oct v Villa (home) and Sat 12th Dec v Chelsea (away).

That leaves just FIFTEEN other games to reset our bodyclocks to.

Still, it's nice to see two old traditions returning in time for the new season.

1: "Taking the positives" from the blues losing to a lower league team in a pre-season kickabout.

2: Rafa ("I sold £6.7m Jermaine Pennant for nowt") Benitez bemoaning the financial state of the game.

From a strictly personal point of view, I’m quite happy - In Singapore and the more non-3pm kick offs generally means the more matches I’ll get on tv over here after they get their Sky 4 fix...

The Europa’s going to have to be skipped though unless we get some big name opponents — 4am kick offs are a bit of a struggle.

Anyone know if the games on ESPN are subscription-based liked Setanta was, or are they free on Sky? (Probably wishful thinking!)

ESPN games — ESPN are relaunching existing channel 3rd August ready for the season, for £9 a month paid via Sky. Basically it will be like the old Prem Plus system pre-Setanta. ESPN currently talking to Virgin and BT Vision about making the channel available for non-Sky viewers.

Portsmouth away looks like an overnight run. Who gives a toss about travelling fans? TV rules - ok?

Why not empty stadiums, 78 cameras, and shed loads of money for the clubs and kick-off times to suit whichever part of the world pays the most?

Anyone know what may happen with the Blackburn home game? Bringing my boy over for his first taste of Goodison!
