How's Mikky progressing?

Comments (5)

I've seen lots of stuff about the Yak being back fit, and saw that Jags is aimng for an October return...

But what about the best little Spaniard? More important than anybody (as we have cover for Jags), we know how much we miss him, and also how we are looking forward to seeing him play with the new version Pienaar.

Anyone know how he's doing and when we can expect him back?

Not exactly much news from Baz, except he is doing well:

Rathbone, meanwhile, was also able to offer some positive news regarding some of Everton’s other high-profile injured players such as Mikel Arteta, Phil Jagielka and Victor Anichebe.

"Mikel has done a lot of his rehabilitation in Spain during the summer with Joaquin, a Spanish physio who we know well," he said. "He’s been in good hands. He’s doing very, very well and it looks good.

"Victor had a bad injury at Newcastle [United] - which we all saw - but he’s made good progress too and we’re pleased with where he’s at.

"Phil is going to see his surgeon
on Wednesday. He’s now 11 weeks post-op so he’ll probably start doing a little bit more work.

"He’s on target but if you rupture your cruciate ligament you’re going to be out for a given length of time to allow for the healing process.

"They’re not going to come back in three months from injuries like they’ve had and it’s a mistake to push them back before that. We need to get them back as quickly as possible but we mustn’t hurry them back and they must be fully rehabilitated."

Good to hear he is doing well.

Does anybody worry he will get used to Spain while he’s there. Also, with Alonso heading back to be Spain, his best buddy will be gone..

At the end of the day, if he gets bored, and wants to go back to his homeland, then so be it. He has given us good service, and raised his game a hell of a lot since he joined us. I don't want to lose him, but if we are going to, then now is when we would get sky high money for him given the current transfer market. At 27 years old, he is in his prime. We could be looking at around £20 million. The money could be reinvested for a 20- to 23-year-old equivalent to maintain the future of our nucleus.

Some will think I am mad, although in reality I am just looking longer term. I don't think we have the luxury of letting our top players stay here until retirement, and thus being unable to replace them. Of course in an ideal world, we would quite happily keep hold of our top players. We jus't dont have the funds to do so.

Cahill will also need replacing in the next 2 years, although I think he is well past his value peak due to his age. As talismanic as he is for us, I would be suprised if we could command in excess of £10 million for him.

But in any case, it's all just speculation, ifs and buts. Mikky’s injury has certainly kept him out of the gossip column this close season.
