Where do you surf?

Comments (8)

I'm not just being lazy, I promise. I was just wondering where people go to get their daily fix of footy news and/or gossip?

Personally when I first launch a web browser it's to go to either BBC, SkySports, my Email account or Toffeeweb. I've never noticed myself being very fussy over what tittle-tattle I read, in fact I enjoy a good yarn now and again but this year I've been directed to Goal.com from Google news a few times and it seems laughable, as if it's written by Africans in broken English (I know my English ain't great, but then I'm no journo and don't pretend to be).

I've found that, as time goes on, my field of Internet vision has become narrower, I can' t be bothered to surf sites unknown to me as they can be unreliable or just try and batter you with pop-ups.

I visited FourFourTwo.com earlier, it's obviously a name I recognise from the magazine shelf but not a site I'd found before this week. They seem to have a few well written pieces on there if not ground breaking, I like their take no the list of games that Sky & ESPN are broadcasting and it's quite revealing to get an independent (I think) outsiders view of Everton (we're mentioned quite a lot but in quite a negative way) - http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/fourfourtwoview/archive/2009/07/10/the-most-unwatchable-premier-league-teams.aspx

Another truly laughable site is http://footballtalentspotter.com — I followed this link from 442, I guess this must be the other half of the Championship Manager split that happened, Moyes got the use of the massive scouting network and the other lot set up this Mickey Mouse effort. Honestly, Glen Johnson is apparently better than Lionel Messi... actually Glen Johnson is better than everyone!! In case you can't take it seriously don't worry, they do have a WAG's section!... oh, and Yakubu gets 3.4/10

So, where do you go for footy news & views and how reliable are they? Are there any non-news footy sites that people visit? I'm obviously aware of other Everton fan sites — I wasn't really meaning them.

Save time and go to Newsnow. You can pick your way through a plethora of sites providing the latest hourly rumours. ToffeeWeb has a direct link on the main page...

Beware though... you might turn into a frustrated ass-clown stomping up and down the living room mouthing an abusive conversation with yourself about the retarded toilet-bugs linked to our beloved...

Breathe, J... only rumours!

I agree with Jason, NewsNow detects ’Everton’ in news stories. It lists most popular stories as well as minute by minute stories. You gradually begin to pick up on quality websites and those that are total bullshit.

NewsNow is the place Simon as it trawls all news sources. Beware tho’ it becomes addictive, you almost get impatient with the site if it doesn’t come up with something new for a few hours. Sifting out the nonesense ir the tricky bit.

Brilliant, thanks everyone, that’s excactly what I was looking for.

I know Ismael, I have an iGoogle home page with a few little modules in, one being a news search for ’Everton’ but the stories don’t change on it too often so was looking for something a little less based in real world events... lol

Thanks again

On a related theme, can anyone provide a good reliable guide to streaming live games?

Which of the sites, the player downloads etc would you recommend, or possibly stear clear of? Are there any legal aspects we should be thinking about?

This should be the time of the year when we — particularly expats — should be doing our homework on this, but I’ll bet it will still come down to a post kick-off "anyone got a link?"

For live streaming try googling - worldtvpc - one word, usually the first listing of the search; then click on the link for live sport, appropriately on the day of the game and you should find that most games from major divisions around the world are screened.
