Kyle Naughton

Comments (18)

So as yet we are still no nearer than we were on Friday to knowing if the lad Naughton will sign for us or Tottenham. As I understand it, the Blades put a limit of today for him to sign for either club. Not only this but he apparently failed to turn up for a medical at Tottenham yesterday / today. Plus there are unconfirmed reports that his agent was quoted on one radio station as stating that Naughton may yet end up at Goodison Park.

I don't want to get involved in a slanging match and I know it's silly season, but personally speaking I would love to see Naughton on Everton's books.

Has anybody else heard if a deal has gone through? It still says on Sheffield Utd's website that they have agreed a deal with us, and it's up to the player... here's hoping...!!

I agree that he would be a great asset to the squad. Other than that, still waiting mate....

I too hope that Kyle Naughton will be an Everton player when we kick off against Arsenal but, if that deal falls through, I would not be too dissapointed as Phil Neville is top class at right-back and young Seamus Coleman looks promising (he could become a snip as we only paid £250k for him) plus Tony Hibbert is always reliable against the smaller teams in the league.

Coleman seems quite promissing from what people are saying, "If Naughton doesn't sign I don't think it's any great loss right now as I doubt he’s currently as good as Neville probably even Hibbert". I do agree we need better than Hibbert though if we are to progress.

According to someone on another popular Everton website Naughton will sign for Spurs tomorrow. The poster claims to have been told this by Naughton himself and is due mainly (depsite Naughton preferring a move to us) to the fact that Sheffield Utd prevented him from talking to us after Spurs gazumped our offer, and we refused to budge... and the fact that due to his loyalty to Sheffield Utd, who he’s been with since he was a boy, he won’t press for a move to Everton by putting in a transfer request. Make of it what you will... it’s on NSNO!

Bloody hell, if that’s true Brian, it’s ridiculous. I’ve never believed much on NSNO but if Sheffield Utd are selling him anyway, what’s the problem with him putting in a transfer request and demanding a move to us? It’s his career after all. Once Shefffield Utd have sold him what’s his loyalty to them? It doesn’t really make sense that he’s wiling to be a 4th or 5th choice full back at Spurs just because he’s loyal to Sheffield Utd.

Did Billy Bullshit say at the shareholders’ meeting Sheffield Utd had accepted our offer or that talks were ongoing? It seems to me Moyes hasn’t even had a chance to speak to Naughton so I still believe Sheffield have refused us permission to speak to him.

I really don’t understand why we want Naughton. At the moment we have Hibbert, Neville, Coleman and Gosling who can play at right back. There is no way that David Moyes will have him straight in the team. He’ll be cover for Hibbert — in other words, one for the future. Fair enough if we have a strong enough squad for the present. However, we don’t... and it seems to me to be a waste of limited resources.

Andy, have you seen much of Naughton? I’ve seen him a few times, including live in the play-off final. From what I’ve seen he’s better than the four players you’ve mentioned already, and has a lot of improving to do.

Naughton cover for Hibbert? No way. He will be straight into the team if we can get him, the only possible exception being if we sign Cana and Moyes stays loyal to Neville and shifts him to right back.

Alan, I agree with your logic, if Brian’s info is true then Sheff United are screwing him over for their own ends (as well as screwing us over too) so it would seem totally bizarre if his loyalty to them is preventing the move he actually wants. Dare I mention that players sometimes get ’loyalty’ bonuses if they’re transferred without asking for a move?

All in all, considering it was Friday 10th when the story broke that we were signing him, this has become another in the long line of frustrating Everton transfer sagas, and I can’t help but fear the worst, as we’ll be missing out on a very exciting talent.

Out of curiosity, I looked on the Sheffield United FC website this morning and this is what it said :

Posted on Monday, 20th July

"Kevin Blackwell will press ahead with his makeover of Sheffield United’s squad despite seeing the transfer saga involving two of its most prized assets drag on into a second week.

The Club had hoped to resolve the futures of Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker before their return from a pre-season training camp in Hungary.

Everton and Spurs are locked in a battle to sign the young defenders but have so far failed to prise either away from South Yorkshire.

Apparently resigned to losing the youngers, the United Manager has earmarked the £8million they expect to raise to bankroll a raft of major acquisitions with Manchester City striker Ched Evans his top priority."

So now you know!!

"Hibbert, Neville,Coleman and Gosling can play right back."

Does anyone know if the two new lads, Mustafi or Garbutt could play there?

I think one is a LB and the other a CB but it's not unlikely that one of these could also play RB.

Mike, I’m not suggesting that Naughton is not a decent player but that Moyes is a conservative manager who is reluctant to replace his favourites. Baines should have been first left back some time before he became a regular.

Andy Crooks; Baines was injured for much of his first season. Some on here asked why Moyes had brought a crocked player. But Moyes stated that when fit Baines would be our left back for "many years to come". Now we have an a player who may make the England World Cup squad.

Robert. Joleon Lescott was played at left back while Baines was fit.

Just to say that the Naughton and Walker thread left by Patty is a little misleading, whether intentional or not. The information is correct; however, it must be pointed out that this was merely listed on their ’Media Talk’ section of the website, much like when Evertonfc.com refer to newspaper (rubbish) talk. The article actually refers to the Sheffield Star.

But seriously, what the fuck is going on with these transfers? I do hope that there is another twist in this aging tale, as I believe they could be promising acquisitions.

It’s Aaron Ramsey all over again. You only have to look at the way the story has been shelved to know if anything was going to come from it, they’d have commented further (they’d have been better saying nothing in the first place tbh).

I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised that any transfers are dependent on the fee we eventually get from City for Lescott. It’s not a case of if we sell, rather when. Let’s face it, if Bill would sell Rooney, he’d sell his own grandmother.

This is from "He’s Our Tater Not Yours" from 606 board:

Bare with me here, but just been reading on a Sheff Utd forum we’re an Everton ITK posts and what he said seems quite plausiable.

Walker has agreed to join Spurs, whilst Naughton has told them he has no intention of joining them and wants to join us. We have a deal agreed in principle with his agent as we don’t have permission to talk to Naughton himself. We’re claiming that as Sheff Utd had accepted our offer, that we have a legally binding contract to sign him subject to the player agreeing terms, which he would should he be given permission. So now we’re playing the legal hard ball and got the PFA involved.

He claimed as well that to smooth things over, Spurs would sign both, with Naughton joining us on loan for the season, then join us permanently next summer, but if that happened, Sheff Utd wouldn’t get Walker on loan for the season.

So basically, its who gives in first outta us, Spurs and Sheff Utd.

He has signed for Spurs, and I have a couple of things to say on the matter:

• I am a little disappointed as I thought he would be a good addition to our squad;
• However, a price of £10m including a player we didn’t even want is astronomical (and let’s face it, even £5m for him alone is too much when you consider Jags was £4m and had Premier League experience);
• If a deal was indeed agreed between the clubs and then Sheff Utd have reneged on that, Everton should get their lawyers involved (and if this is the case, I hope the money they get from the Tevez affair is cursed);
• It’s looking ever more likely that any more additions will be few and far between, not because, as the conspiracy theorists like to think, the board are out to destroy the club, but because the market is simply out of all reality.

So here’s to a successful season in the face of adversity, the Everton way, the Moyes way, and when Pienaar rips the fuck out of Naughton next season, we’ll all think ’thank fuck’.
