Rasmus Elm

Comments (34)

One of Everton's top targets is Rasmus Elm, a Swedish Under-21 midfielder, who Moyes wants to get for at least 3M. Moyes seems to be interested in a lot of players I haven't really heard of, but they are usually alright.

Is this a joak thread?

If he can play right wing then we can get to the root of the problem, especially with Moyes barking orders at him.

Until then I will leaf this thread alone and log off.

It says on Sky Sports he was at Finch Farm on Friday, he’s a set-piece specialist who starred for Sweden in the recent Under-21 tournament and also has 6 senior caps.

His agent goes on to say he is one of the best players in Sweden for the last 20 years, but he’s hardly going to say he’s shit is he? See what happens...

I was talking to Dan the Swede in work. Here is what he had to say:

"He was in the all-star team in the Under-21 Championship and won the league for his team in Sweden last year. A lot of clubs are after him now. He really could be the next big thing in Sweden. Would love to see him in a mid-table English club before moving on to a big team like Arsenal"!

So reckon he’d be a good signing.

Yeah, I phoned the father-in-law (who’s a footy-mad Swede) last night and he said there are three Elm brothers playing for Kalmar. They did win the league and are up there in the top 3 this season (they’re just over half way through the season in Sweden), and he spoke very highly of Rasmus Elm — he’s certainly the best prospect of the three brothers.

By the sounds of it, he’s a goalscoring central midfielder and, like someone else mentioned, has a great right peg and can deliver a dangerous free kick.

Will have to wait and see if he cuts it in the Prem... there’s a massive difference in quality from the Swedish top division (been to quite a few Orebro matches with him).

Duncan - Örebro!

You mean there is another Evertonian married to a woman from Sveriges hjärtpunkt apart from me? Been to see them a few times as well, but my wife’s family are totally not interested in sport. Best time was to see them play AIK and we were in the away end with our kids celebrating when Örebro scored.

Not looking too bad this season and 3 points at home to Häcken tonight will push us up with the big boys!

Sorry to go off topic here, but why hasn’t James Vaughan travelled to the States? From the OS:

Moyes has almost his entire squad with him, with only injured trio Victor Anichebe, Mikel Arteta and Phil Jagielka not among the travelling party.

Travelling squad: Carlo Nash, Tim Howard, Tony Hibbert, Phil Neville, Leighton Baines, Joleon Lescott, Joseph Yobo, Seamus Coleman, Jack Rodwell, James Wallace, Jose Baxter, Jo, Leon Osman, Tim Cahill, Steven Pienaar, Louis Saha, Marouane Fellaini, Yakubu.

Hi Phil... yeah - we got married this summer but have been together 8 years so spend loads of time over there... mainly playing golf with her Dad! He actually prints Orebro’s (dont have the O with dots on my keyboard!) matchday programmes and sponsors them in a small way, so he managed to wangle me a signed shirt!!! They’re doing well.

Graham — I expect Vaughan has gone with them... the OS make a lot of errors.

The OS has amended the list with Vaughan now on the list:

Travelling squad: Carlo Nash, Tim Howard, Tony Hibbert, Phil Neville, Leighton Baines, Joleon Lescott, Joseph Yobo, Seamus Coleman, Jack Rodwell, James Wallace, Jose Baxter, Jo, Leon Osman, Tim Cahill, Steven Pienaar, Louis Saha, James Vaughan, Marouane Fellaini, Yakubu.

Gosling wont be traveling to the states as he is away on international duty with England U19s.

This lad Elm looks good and, if the rumours are to be belived, another good young player on the books. But it is one heluva step up to the Prem from Sweden!

Hi guys, I've started up a blog — http://footballmotions.blogspot.com/ — where I'm going to discuss general football issues and generally deviate to all things Everton!

With respect to the recent speculation, I have to say I'll be over the moon if we get Elm! One can't be certain whether players will adapt; however, his strength and energy would be perfect for the Premier League and he was an absolute star in the Under-21 Championships! He has also visited everton, so it looks like we are in with a great shot of getting him!

Translated...

Now the star is close to a transition: "It’s flattering"
Kalmar. Everton want him.

Kalmar FF are willing to sell him.

- It is an interesting and exciting club, "says Rasmus Elm, which was already in Liverpool on Friday to meet with Evergreen’s representatives.

Sportbladet revealed yesterday - a text that was quoted by the largest English online magazine makers - that Everton have shown great interest for Rasmus Elm, 21.

Last season’s Premier League bedrooms have followed the Swedish A-team star carefully for a long time and saw Rasmus in place in both Malmö and in Debrecen.

"We have talked at"
Everton-coach David Moyes has been very impressed by Kalmar FF-player and the club’s representatives gave the go-ahead to try to solicit Elm. Now the club has started talks with the U21-star and Kalmar FF.

- It is true. Everton have shown interest and we have talked at, "says Kalmar FF’s chairman Johnny Petersson which also says that two more clubs have shown a somewhat weaker interest.

Last year you refused to sell Viktor Elm during the transfer window for you to give priority to the SM-gold. So do you not do this time?

- No. Now we are talking about more money and Rasmus was on an outbound contract, and recently wrote for another year. When performing such a contract extension so get itself some advantages, so we can not fix him, "says Petersson.

’Flattering’
Rasmus Elm, who made important 1-1 yesterday to criminal, says so on Evergreen’s interest:

- Flattering that a Premier League bedrooms follow me. It is an interesting and exciting club. Much larger than this, it is not. But there is much to be consistent, all must feel hundreds in me to fix me. I want to go to a club that really wants me.

When you take a decision?

- Transfer window closes end of August. But I decide probably earlier than that.

Even Kalmar FF’s sports - Svante Samuelsson - confirmed yesterday Evergreen’s strong interest.

- Everton have followed Rasmus long now and the decision on a possible transition will come in the next week.

At the end of last season, Robert Elstone publicly stated ..." We are aware we need to strengthen. We want to do our business earlier rather than later...." or words to that effect.

Then came the proverbially ’done deals'.... M’bia, Owen, Cana, Mouthinio.... then the almost done deals i.e. Naughton/Walker... then the talks are on going i.e. Reyes etc... none of whom have actually signed or have any intention of signing for Everton.

Why are we always ’interested’ or ’monitoring’ players but never actually siging any? Last week the OS posted a headline... ’No Players will be sold this summer’... now it looks like Lescott is on his way.

This club is full of lies, lies & more lies... it’s the same every pre-season.

The FA Cup final proved beyond doubt that we need to strengthen the TEAM not just the squad, so who have we actually signed??? A second-rate striker who none of us wanted back; a 17-year-old kid from Germany who nobody has ever heard of but is ’one for the future’ — sounds like another Ruddy/Spencer/Jutkiewicz etc to me; a youngster from the USA 4th division...

In the coming weeks, be prepared for the ’The players returning from injury will be just like new signings....’ shite.

I am sick of being duped by these clowns... I feel so sorry for Moyes & wouldn’t blame him if he went to pastures anew... I would respect him even more if he told Kenwight, Woods, Earl, Green, Elstone et al to FUCK OFF!!

They’re all liars, each and everyone of them.

I know it’s probably reasonable for any player, especially a younger player, to want to take their time deciding their next transfer, BUT.........

Is anyone else slightly bemused we don’t seem able to convince a relatively unknown from an equally unknown club to join a top 5 Prem team? What on earth is the hold up?

I’m not knocking the club here, just curious why he is delaying his decision. He was shown around Finch Farm last Friday FFS. If we were talking about a proven international of high quality then I could expect something similar, but this guy’s signature, for all his potential, should be a done deal as soon as a club like Everton comes in for him.

I’ve no idea what his role would be, but perhaps Moyes stating that any players we bring in will not necessarily be first 11 material is a factor in his delay?

I’m in the minority but I don’t rate him! He has nothing that we don’t have already.

We are so desperate to sign anybody that we are looking to sign an average player from an average club, in an average league who plays in a position we don’t need...

And Lionel is right — why is it so hard to attract talent?

I can't see us signing him. It's been almost a week since we showed him around and yet no offer has been made. We can't conclude transfers when the team is in this country so I doubt we’ll sign anybody while they are in the States.

So much for wanting players in early... Same as last year, we have no money 'til we get the Sky money in August and then sign somebody on deadline day. We never learn.

Rasmus Elm apprently played last night in the open qualifiers for his Swedish club and scored twice. Just a few points:

(i) Does this mean he now cant play in Europa League
(ii) what signs does this give to Everton, why take the risk of an injury and possibly miss out on a lucrative move.

OR Doesn't he want to come a la Naughton?
