“More attractive”... but broke!

Comments (6)

What's the point in being "more attractive" if we don't have any money to buy anyone!

The confirmation that we have officially lost out in the race to sign Naughton is as depressing as it is shambolic. Not because I have seen the lad play loads of times and think he is a special player, but becuase it is evidence, if anybody needed it, of where exactly we are positioned at this time.

As fans, we are continually drip-fed nonsense, from the top of the club to senior players, that each season we want to progress, we want to challenge the top 4... when the reality is we have no chance of breaking into the top 4. We will be lucky to stay in the top 6.

Comments which persistently are put out from the club at the start of each summer (we are more attractive, we will back the manager etc etc) simply raise fans hopes and expectations. I am sick of hearing BK talk about needing billionaires and searching 24/7. Are Notts County more attractive than us?

I know Its been said before on this site, but the list of clubs that have been bought in the last 2 years is endless and it begs the question: What has our top brass been doing?

Those who don't want a wealthy investor to take over and who think we can continue to progress the way we have been are entitled to their opinions, but I simply can't agree. The money City, Spurs and Villa have in particular, mean while we continually will be asking Moyes to work miracles they will be spending their money on proven quality.

I accept Spurs have been doing that for years, but with a decent manager, we can't, and should have to expect and hope that they will never get it right. Money breeds success. United and Chelsea have not been winning leagues and cups on a tight budget.

I know I am probably rehashing old posts but its simply infuriating to hear the same old noises from Goodison when everyone knows they have little substance.

Last season in June, Wynnes made a statement that Moyes would be backed. A bid was made for Ramsey and everyone thought we can push on. The truth was we had no money and couldn't move in the transfer market until we sold AJ. I am afraid we are getting the same spin and come mid august we will have bought nobody.

Nothing but the best....

Careful, Paul... I’m detecting an ambitious vibe here.

Our chairman may be falling some way short of the adequate, but he means well, he’s doing his best... and has anyone mentioned he’s one of us, a Blue?

Curb your ambition and you’ll never be disappointed again AND get to have lovely cozy little chats with the Mustn’t Grumble brigade.

Why the hell are we going on about this. I have read many forums discussing Everton in general doom and gloom etc. I have supported Everton all my life since I remember, anyway I was born in Bootle, half my family support the red shite and the rest the blue kingdom. My uncle's influence made me into a Toffee.

As I have grown up in life, virtually all my mates support red scum and I cant even say they have been to Liverpool. I have put up with a lot of shit but dealt with it. This is no difference, more shit if you would believe it. The fact remains:

1) We have the best manager in the league (even in my biased opinion better than Sir Alex).
2) We are skint!!
3) Every club apart from Man U Man C now, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea want to be us but with money.

Naughton as a prospect; we saw the potential and made a bid for what he is worth (certainly not the stupid amounts reportedly paid by Spurs). Okay, if he turned into a Jagielka then we have missed the boat... but this happens. But he could also turn into another Cadamarteri — remember him?

Anyway, reports suggest he wanted to come to us, but has been swayed by agents and money and by Sheff Utd. This is the point: if he is swayed like that, why do we want him? This ain't the type of player that Moyes brings in. If he really wanted to come then, no matter what Sheff Utd/Agents etc said he would have come.

I for one believe we have SAVED money — yes, you heard it, saved some money. He might prove me wrong, but there is another Chris Gunther there.

Lescott; well, what do you say? Yes, he is class and Moyes has done well. But, if our finances are as they are, then I say sell him for the right money. It makes sense only if the whole amount is to be reinvested. But he is not that good, in fact I rate Yobo as highly.

Also if he makes any case of wanting to talk to city, then there we must milk it to the max. That's the type player we no longer want as we are bigger than any player. As Sir Alex has proved, stars have moved on and they have simply benefitted. Rooney moved on; have we gone backwards, no in fact that was the catalyst to where we are today. This could be another catalyst to breaking the top 4...but it needs to be sorted now and not dragged on all summer.

Finally, the main point of this article: If a player does not want to come to Everton because he is influenced by the coin then that is not the player we want and it's a blessing in disguise. I stand by Moyes in his principles and, to be honest, I am with BK for the fact he aint rich but whatever people believe he still tries and has the club at heart. I love Everton for its soul — not for its money.

Why do people start the summer with any kind of expectation on the matter of transfers?

I remember hardly being overwhelmed when we signed Pienaar and Lescott but was pleasantly surprised. Even when we signed Arteta, I wasn’t thinking he was that good at the time. He looked like he had potential but also looked very lightweight and had struggled at Rangers. So who knows, this Peterlin might be good and we might get this Rasmus fella who might be a gem too. I’m still taking far more pride in our team as it is now than any City fan must have with them signing every type of mercenary going. Give me the Yak ahead of shitbags like Adebayor or Bellamy and Rodwell ahead of Barry any day.

We already have - 2004-05 season.

Paul, You are entitled to your opinion, and you put it well, but I am sure some responses make you feel that you are banging your head against a brick wall.

Andrew Gage:

1) Very biased opinion... Moyes is not as good simply because he has not acheived anything like what SAF has - or Wenger for that matter.
2) "We are skint!!" Does this not answer your initial queston of why people keep talking abot the problem?
3) In what context? Do Man City, AV, Spurs really want to be broke and be fed lies and hope to finish below those that you mentioned in a bid to just about get into Europe.

Don’t get me wrong, I pleased we’re in Europe and got to the Final... but surley with investment then the idea is to want to actually compete for the PL and compete in CL, rather than patting ourselves on the back for for being the best outside the Sky 4.
