Another American...

According to this report on ESPN...

... we are getting another young college "soccer" star from the States. He's called Cody Arnoux, he plays for the Demon Deacons, and apparently he was on trial with Peterlin a few months ago.

Anyone have any idea about this guy? Seems quite plausible, even for silly season!

Wake Forest forward Cody Arnoux is set to join the American revolution at Everton. Has anybody heard anything about this guy joining us at Everton?

Sounds like we are doing a lot of work in the American Market. Let's hope they work out...

Yeah, when all the Peterlin stuff broke a few months back, there was talk of this guy being there too, but it didn't go into much detail, so I assumed we had knocked him back.

I’ve no problem with us bringing in such players upon the assumption we are also going to sign players who will actually get a game and make a worthwhile contribution THIS season.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am starting to wonder why Moyes signed his contract at all. I best not say what springs to mind for fear of being ostracised!

Lionel, I will. He signed because he was offered a mega-bucks contract.

Perhaps this is an untapped source of footballers (soccerballists). Signing a college player is like signing a lower league player in the US of A.

In all seriousness Brian, Moyes could have made that amount and more if he had wanted to move elsewhere, as the Naughton debacle has sown, very few sign for Everton just for money, especially if they have other offers.

For what it’s worth, Arnoux was a goal machine at the college level. Great speed, cool finisher. Never seen him at a higher level.

That’s nice of you Lionel to give that ultimatum. Let me know how it goes.

I think it’s great that Moyes and his scouting staff are looking at cheap and inventive ways to get fresh young talent into the club. I have no idea how much those kids are getting paid, but I’d be surprised if it was more than six figures.

I certainly will Robert.........if you actually tell me what "ultimatum" you’re referring to???

Brian Waring...I, and a lot of others, personally think Davey was worth mega-bucks especially because of what he achieves without any decent transfer spending money.

I don’t understand Evertonians. They just don’t seem to learn. Everyone knows our financial situation. In truth we’re in a far less precarious position than Liverpool, Man Unt and Arsenal. Also, anyone who sat through last Summer when we didn’t even have enough players to take the field at the start of the year should know by now that we aren’t going to set the transfer market alight.

We have lost out on two promising left backs to Spurs — so what. Can you imagine how Redknapp is going to keep Chimbonda, Hutton, Corluka, Bale all happy with those two young tyros chomping at the bit? It’s lunacy really. If Spurs have the money to keep them warming the bench good luck to them.

I have faith in Moyes. One thing he has established at Everton is — no passengers. I think back to the days of Walter Smith and three teams of disaffected professionals, the likes of Alexandersson and Linderoth on big wages scratching their bums and I don’t lament it. I think if Rasmus Elm and the Kyles think they can get a better deal elsewhere good luck to them because if Moyes buys you, you’re going to get your chance if you show willing.

I doubt if we will get anyone in before the transfer deadline other than one or two experienced loan players because we clearly have an excellent team when everyone is fit. The job will be to hang on to our best players as clearly Howard, Yobo Jagielka, Lescott, Baines, Arteta, Pienaar, Rodwell, Cahill, Fellaini are all top players. Moyes says the most important players at the club are the ones already there, not the next person you are going to sign — he’s right. There is reason for great optimism if we get everyone fit.

I think Kevin the word "if" is the operative word. Most teams would say the same, "if we had everyone fit". The fact is nearly a quarter of the season will have passed before we have everyone fit and that’s providing we suffer no new injuries.

Let’s not get on to religion, we all know that’s a slippery slope, I think it’s caused more trouble than it’s solved but that’s my opinion.

America is a often a blindly religious country as anyone who’s seen the presidential race will testify to, the good thing about it is that it produces focused & devoted young sports men & women that generally aren’t hung up with the trappings of a British upbringing like clubbing & binge drinking. Their language and manorisms might not suggest it but they’re humble enough to know they need to improve from one day to the next and should mean that whatever happens we turn a profit when he leaves.

Does anyone else think we’re treating the youth system like a record collection (or any other collection for that matter)? — buy them when they’re young and no-one’s heard of them; sell them when they mature a bit and become collectable.

Honestly don’t mean to offend anyone, appologies if I did, little bit hung over :)

I don’t know if this American lad is going to sign for us and join Peterlin. I hope that he does - it’s not always the headline grabbing signings that work out to be the best. Personally I had never heard of Neville Southall before he signed for us. Of the 7 players that Howard Kendall signed during the summer of 1981, I would reckon that Neville was the least known - and he ended up by breaking the club’s appearance record !!!
We missed out on the 2 lads from Sheffield United - but we have missed out on other players in the past - even Catterick didn’t always get his man e.g. Archie Gemmill. So have other clubs - er mention it quietly to any Reds out there, but didn’t they spend all of last summer trying to sign Gareth Barry ? Hasn’t Sir Alex over at Moan Utd had to admit defeat in the players he was trying to sign ?
Let’s put things into perspective. And after all - be honest now - how many of us had heard of Feliani before we signed him ? I am sure we all spent lastsummer saying to ourselves " If only Davey Moyes would try and sign that big tall lad from Standard Liege !!!!
