ELM disease

It seems like any optimism we had of signing Elm is also now evaporating.

Why we go through the charade of showing the player around the facilities and holding discusions without CLOSING the deal is beyond me.

Who cares?
Yes, I know we all do......but to be honest I’m so tired of it all now that I really just don’t care...seriously!
When it’s official.....that’s when I’ll care!
Whomever we sign is fine by me (David will always improve them).
And as I have no clue (and most if not all us don’t either) as to what goes on behind the scenes then why worry?
We really don’t know why there "appears" to be a delay in the signing of Elm so why worry? That said, he looks decent enough, cracking shot on him so if he signs that ain’t a bad thing ... equally not the end of the world if he doesn’t.

"Closing the deal" implies there’s only one side to these things. Elm has a 50% say in whether any deal gets closed and he won’t just have one option.

If you’re selling your house, and somebody comes to look round it, would you seriously expect to "close the deal" while they’re there? Of course not.

Martin, I think you carry the feelings of a lot of Evertonians right now. Bring on the 31st August when we make our 4 signings in the final hour and then we can all sleep easy and get on with the serious stuff... the actual football

I’m always amazed at how much blame is laid at Everton’s door for not closing the deal. The problems in football and deals like this are the fucking agents. Excuse my language but it’s these bastards that cause all the problems. The club make the offer which the player and his club can either accept or reject. If the agent thinks he can get more money for him and the player then he’ll hawk the player around to other possibly interested clubs. Sometimes they’ll just make up a fictitious interested party to try and get the buying club to offer more money.

The only problem Everton have is the wage structure is now well below the going rate for PL footballers. But Everton should not be forced to pay over the odds for unproven youngsters. So if we don’t sign some swedish fella who none of us had heard of this time 2 weeks ago then I’m not arsed.

Sam Ricketts anyone? We’ve been linked with him before and he can play right, left and central defence (mostly right-back but would be good cover across the back four). Hull have agreed a fee but they are not saying which Premier League club he has permission to talk to. Could Everton actually be keeping it quiet for once?

Lorik Cana is in talks with Sunderland now. What exactly are Everton doing at the moment? We we’re all told by Moyes that he was going to bring in his new signings early on to settle in because leaving it until the last minute cost us last time. Every other team in the league has shown more ambition than us so far, even the likes of Sunderland are bringing in higher quality players.

I’m not sure us being in europe is such a good idea unless Moyes brings more players in because the squad just isn’t big enough, especially with the extra games.

It would be a shame if we missed out on the lad, he seems very decent and I was looking forward to the "Nightmare on Elm Street" tabloid headlines. With the remake of the classic slasher film out next year, the club could have run some sort of Freddy Krueger marketing promotion; once again BK has missed a financial trick.

Would Arsenal buy Ricketts? Are the FA Cup finalists that desperate? Now is not the time to dumb down.

I think it goes without saying Jay... We don’t have any money! End of August is when our window officially opens. Getting caught up with the speculation creates harm.

So lets all wait until the last minute where we will splash the cash on another desperado, can’t do anything to take us forward, Fellainish buy!

Fuck knows what Everton are playing at. According to teamtalk.com, Cana is close to becoming a Sunderland player and I'm betting we don't get this Elm fella either. This summer is getting as bad as last!

James, I would say that the "desperado" Fellaini buy didn’t do too badly in the end.

This summer is going to be a huge watershed for EFC. Personally, I’m not bothered who we DON’T sign, I’m bothered who we DO sign! However, this summer is going to place evidence in front of the Everton board to show that much, much more needs to be done to secure investment in the club.

We are now seeing how much money talks in the English game and we are no longer being left behind by Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal. Villa, Tottenham, Man City are coming on strong. Jesus, even Sunderland have huge pots of money to invest in players - players David Moyes is interested in but has no chance of signing.

Sure, Rasmus Elm looked around Finch Farm and no doubt he was impressed. However, when Everton are offering a lesser deal to several other teams, why would he sign for us?

Lorik Cana is reportedly in talks with Sunderland. I know we have never even confirmed interest in him but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that we have enquired and been knocked back, simply because we can’t compete financially.

We have already had the Stephen M’Bia and Naughton debacles to agonise over and it is becoming a little embarrassing. I mean, these players are hardly International Superstars, in the mould of Kaka or Messi, yet we are still missing out.

I honestly don’t blame David Moyes. I think he is the ONLY person doing everything he can to secure the right players. He has an idea of the skills and type of personality he wants to bring in. But how long is he going to put up with being out-bid and out muscled by old Beef-Jerky face and the Elephant-Man, Steve Bruce. God forbid we ever lose out to that c*nt Phil Brown!

I guess my point is, the board simply HAVE to wake up and smell the coffee and I think if Lescott leaves and we continue to miss out on our ’exciting’ ((C) Sir Phil Carter) transfer targets, Moyes could well walk, despite his contract. All this combined with a continued lack of interest and I’m convinced, lack of effort on the part of the board to bring in investors, could see EFC on its knees.

So WAKE UP! Something has to change and if this summer can’t make the board do it, I for one fear the worst.

Richard, it has been that way for years... and yes it is frustrating. The only pre-season we have bought early was Johnson and look how good he started.

The problem is that we have to wait for the Sky money before we buy or sell players. I don’t understand how we cannot bid on the strength of the Sky money, as everybody knows that they are good for it.

We have been disillusioned since the time we eventually got back into Europe and we constantly arse about until the last week of the transfer window before getting new players in. That is why the numbers at the last home friendly are always so poor, there is nothing new to watch.

I am only going this year to the Malaga game because my ticket was a fiver... if I actually end up going, in the end it’s only a fiver lost if I decide not to.

Why is everyone so surprised that Bullshit Billy is potless again despite our record profits (no doubt spunked on desperation Kirkby AGAIN) so he has to wait until the Sky cheque clears AGAIN. He should be looking for sponsorship from lastminute.com it’s about the most fitting thing for him.

Why is it "spunked" on Kirkby?, more likely is that it has gone into the players pockets, running costs and the debt.

The final sentence I agree with.

Tony Williams - James? Who the hell..?

I believe Elm is still considerig whether the club is "absolutely right" for him before committing. That is a good thing in the long-term.

As for Fellaini the debate rages on. Nice guy, cool hair, but I am yet to be convinced. There is not a position in the side that he fills adequately. I guess time will tell whether he makes the grade.

When Moyes get’s back from America business should pick up. The best we can hope for now is a calm mind.

Tony I’ve not yet applied under the freedom of information act to find out how much EFC have paid and are still paying towards the ongoing DK project, but I’m pretty certain the club is still coughing up towards DK in case it gets the go ahead. Any money spent on a project which hasn’t been accepted irrespective of whether or not I agree with it is folly and a potential waste.
