Transfers

Comments (17)

There has been a lot of comments, both, positive (not many) and neagative (quite a few), reference the activity in the transfer market. Yes, it would seem that we lost out on a couple of prospects, Cana, M'Bia, Naughton etc., but, the only one that I can recall that we made a bid for was Naughton. (The one player who I wish Moyes would go after is Michael Braddley at M'Gladbach). The other "prospects" I dare say were wish list signings, either from fan base or media or a combination of both. We have no idea if Moyse had any interest in these other players.

I firmly believe that we will see new arrivals, however they will not be "household " names, rather more in the ilk of a Cahill, Lescott, Jags etc. If these signings perform the way of their predecessors, we will all be ecstatic.

A quick look at our competitors for the 4th place in the table shows us that the Villans (Downing £12M out 'till December), Gooners (Vermaelen £10k), Fulham (Rise £5M, Kelly free), Shite (Johnson £10M), Spurs (The Kyles from Blades £11M) have signed only 7 players between them, while EFC and Hammers have yet to dip into the market.

Outside of Citeh, Chelski and Manure there has been a total of 19 players transfered for a fee of some kind, totalling approx £85M, an average of £4.5M per player. The three others, with Citeh leading the way, have spent the same amount on 8 players (average £10.6M).

We will have new signings and they, once again, WILL be the envy of other clubs come the end of the upcoming campaign. I believe, for example, that the Swede Elm will sign. These signings, with the help of Rodwell, Coleman, who by the way according to sources, is dynamic, and a resurgence of Mikel and the Yak will propel us to that 4th place spot come May next year. Last but not least, Lescott will stay. COYFBB

And to be fair we do have Jo back ... which is not a bad thing at all!
And we have signed three youngsters (Garbutt, Mustafi and Peterlin), plus a 4th yet to be confirmed.
So we’re hardly doing nothing and we are (continously) building for the future so looking on the bright side ... it could be a lot worse!

It is important to be optimistic however, i do beleive we will be missing out on a great chance to catch Arsenal because w e have not signed the necessary quality players to bridge the gap. Liverpool sadly are not our competitors as they are way above us as they should be with the money spent. Villa too will not be as good my worry is City & Spurs. Spurs have a decent team and there form in general since Redknapp took over was good. City with there millions will eventually strike gold probably next season when Hughes has been sacked and a top manager is in place.

Well John there IS still plenty of time to catch a decent player or two so by no means is the season already predictable!
I’m not worried about Villa this coming season ... they have lost their two best players - Barry and Laursen and Downing is not going to make the team more of a threat.
City will take time (they’ll need a bigger bench too!!! Actually two benches...one for all the star-quality not playing and one for all the ego’s wanting to play).
Spurs will be tougher this coming season but I still think we’ll be the better team.
Arsenal, if anything, are weaker ... Adebayor gone and Nasri out for awhile ... Utd have lost Ronaldo .... does that make them weaker? Who knows. And then there’s the Red shite ... well, we can beat them!!!

I think it’s up to us to get into the top four, injury free, a bit of luck ... who knows?!?!?

Tottenham will be a far better team this year. Harry’s points total with Portsmouth and Tottenham combined would of seen him finish 5th!

Spurs’ form under Redknapp was poor in the final third of the season. They had a good run when they were under a bit of pressure from going down but after the Carling Cup final their form suffered again. They will be a threat but I wouldn’t take them too seriously. Redknapp will probably be sacked by December anyway knowing Spurs.

We need two first XI players, and we’ve known this for months. So why not just sort it out?

Cana Gets Away!!! Can`t believe it... how the hell could joining Sunderland for £5 mill be more attractive than signing for us? And why didn't we do more to close this deal?

We so badly needed midfield cover and this must have been the type of player who would drive our midfield forward in the Carsley style, but even more so...

Another one that got away and another major dissapointment for the already frustrated blues fans... WHY???

With John Terry issuing a statement that he intends to stay with Chelsea, will Joleon do the same? I think we can expect a really big offer from City, do we have the bottle to reject them? I hope so.

Martin, so while we have all this time to sign payers both Villa and Arsenal don’t?! Of course losing Ronaldo makes MU weaker. Real Madrid would not have paid £80M and he was especially devastating the seasons before last.

Would we be weaker without Lescott? Yes. But for £20-25M we’ll be able to replace and add an additional player. I just hope that we do not leave it til the last minute.

Cana Gets Away!!! according to Tony Cheek. Says who?
True there was media speculation for weeks and comments attributed to the player himself but to the best of my knowledge there was never ANY official confirmation from the club of interest, let alone a bid.

I suggest Cana went to Sunderland because they were the only club to actually bid for him, not because he turned Everton down. We are all impatient for new signings, but aside from the Naughton gazumping affair, I don’t believe any of the other transfers talked about in the media where Everton have been mentioned are anything more than speculation.

It is just plain wrong to castigate the club and/or Bill Kenwright for failing to clinch deals that probably never existed. Every year now, twice a year in fact, we have this feeding frenzy on transfer speculation. It is fuelled by greedy agents, in some cases stupid players, and in every case by journalists who never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Read what they write by all means, comment by all means, but if you are going to criticise the club, get yourself armed with some FACTS first.

Eddy, John Terry may have decided to ignore Man City’s advances, but there are a few Chelsea fans I know down here who are far from happy with him. They reckon he is still a greedy bastard even though he is staying, because he has just used it to get himself another bumper wage rise at Chelsea, reported to be between £150,000 - £175,000 a week.

Would we do the same with Lescott?

I agree with Richard on the basis that Cana etc were angling for a move to EFC yet we obviously wasn’t interested.

We bid for Naughton and it never went through. Shame as I seen him make his debut for Spurs and he looked very good especially going forward. On a positive note, the fact that Moyes bid for a young English forward thinking RB means he recognises we lack quality in that position and is looking to rectify it.

The only other player we have shown a genuine interest in is Elm. Ok it’s gone quiet, but he’s got a big decision to make as a young kid moving abroad. Also he looks good and can play on the right, score and create goals. Again a position we all know we’re lacking in.

It shows DM knows where he needs to strengthen and he’s tryin to do so with young lads of quality. So lets see what happens as I’m sure over the next few weeks there will be arrivals.

Also this season Rodwell and Neville will be playing in the holding role. I don’t expect us to sign somebody for this position as on a limited budget it’s not his priority.

I agree with another thread that Ball is worth a 12-month deal as cover.

Have a bit of patience and see what happens!

Peter Griffin, DM bid for Naughton but that now means fuck all as we didn’t get him, it’s as useful as saying you’d love a Bentley, unless you go out and buy one it’s meaningless.

Elm would be a good signing if we can pull it off but I’ve seen far too much of the way Bullshit Billy wheels and deals to expect anything until the Sky money is in the bank and all that’s left on the shelf is scraps.

Gavin - We had a bid accepted for Naughton, so if he did agree to join would we then have turned round and said you will have to hang on until August for your money when we get our Sky cheque? Unless BK was going to get a sub off one of his rich mates for a few weeks, we must have had at least a couple of milllion for a downpayment, before paying the rest in installments. I don’t know, nobody seems to have a clue about our club finances, especially the board!

My main point was we never bid for cana, m’bia etc

"This will never happen again..." (last year) WELL IT HAS, DITHERING DAVEY — get your finger out! Why are Everton so abjectly poor when it comes to transfers? It takes Moyes years to decide... Kenwright ages to negotiate, so someone nips in. The whole thing is beyond a joke.
