Even if it is from a player we didn't get you don't want to be hearing this sort of thing:

"I chose Sunderland over Everton because the Black Cats showed more desire for his signature."

I don’t remember a bid being lodged? More than likely his agent contacted us and said he’s yours for x amount and Moyes for whatever reason decided not to go for it.

He plays in the middle where we have neville, cahill, rodwell, fellaini, arteta, ossie, peterlin all fighting for 3 positions.

On a limited budget like ours a priority is a wide man, a full back, cover for lb and cover for cb.

There was a few threads about Cana on TW; personally I don't see him as a missed player we should have got as he is more of a shin kicker than a creative player, which is what a team aspiring to break the top 4 requires!

Yeah its a case of "I wanted to play in England for a proper club like Everton but I'll settle for Sunderland just because they have a great and loyal manager in Stevie Bruce who is gonna make me captain 5 seconds after I sign for the club. Happy Days... fook Everton."

Someone should have told him Sunderland will be playing Newcastle next season and Steve Bruce will be managing Man City come January!

"Everton know me very well. I have had interest from them in other years and might have come to England. We were talking, but Sunderland came in, and I had a good feeling when I spoke to Steve Bruce."

As stated above, how can you choose something over another thing when one thing was not on offer in the first place... err... ermm... with the other thingumejig...ermm

Hmmmm... he’s shite anyway.

I don’t know whether we were interested in Cana or not. To be honest I don’t care anymore.

Is he better than Neville? Yes, probably. Sadly it’s the same old same old with EFC this summer.

Here’s an idea though, how about the people who do play for us learn how to pass a fucking ball rather than hoof it 40 yards? I’m tired of our general piss-poor passing game. I totally understand some of our players are not comfortable on the ball, but it isn’t that hard to play a short pass to feet ffs.

I’ve lived near Marseille a long time so know the goings on here a bit.
I thought Cana a player we should have gone for and a clip at the price.
He is Carsley with skill plus. Only problem is that Billy Bremner would look like a choir boy next to him.
Might have scared the rs a bit...

Meh, if we had no interest in signing him it comes as no surprise that Sunderland showed more desire.

I think we toffees find ourselves in a predicament over transfer relasted stories. The club has bungled transfers in the past so we know that it is always possible again. Thus we take an ultra suspicious attitude to transfer stories. I mean, this really is a none story, but we seem over eager to put the boot into the club. A sure sign of mounting frustration, but come on, I think we need to take a deep breath and calm down a little. Criticism where criticism is due, but in this case I just don’t see the need to attack the club.

I think Moyes probably did look at him and maybe even considered him, but thought he would be too much of a risk with his type of game, the last thing we need is suspensions for players who may become important to the success of the team he is building.

It always makes me laugh when people say that players are not comfortable on the ball, WTF are they doing playing at a top club, in the top division, earning 30k a week if they are not comfortbale on the ball, being comfortable on the ball should be the base of any Premiership player.

Anyway, water under the bridge now, he’s at Sunderland and time will tell whether we should have took a chance on him.

For what its worth I think Cana would have been a terrific signing at 6M. Even more so, if we ultimately loose Lescott. The defence without doubt will be weaker without him and I am not sure we’d be capable of replacing him with any amount of money, so the added insurance of Cana would have been welcome. I rather suspect that as someone else has said the desire to sign him will no doubt have been measured in terms of the salary on offer.

Sunderland have a recent history of paying well over the odds in an effort to attract players and I suspect he may have been looking for considerably more than the club was prepared to pay which is unfortunate as I think he really could have made a difference for us. Unfortunately we missed out and so we have to move on and forget about him.

Only two things that really count: no official bid made for Cana... only speculation, so that ends there; second is the acknowledgement whether or not he would have been a suitable player and his playability questioned. I posted in another thread that his card count last season was identical to Cahill so would you say he should be dropped as a card risk too?

In reply.

’People’ say such things because that is often the case. The merits of the £30k wages are not the issue. Hibbert is NOT comfortable on the ball. What he earns does not make that any less true.

Take your pick from 3 or 4 current Everton players who give the distinct impression they would rather knob a hippo than receive a ball at pace. Sad but true. ( ok maybe the hippo part was made up.... )

Back on topic. If Cana can control his aggression he’ll do well for Sunderland.

Lionel Luthor - haha funniest thing I’ve heard all day! You know, suspect a few of the current squad would be better at knobbing a hippo than controlling the ball at pace.

I waas at the Rochdale friendly and Hibbos passing was disgraceful. Lower league donkeys were passing the ball more astutely. Hey ho.

Mark, I think you need to read my post again. I’ve basically said that at face value 6m looks a very good deal but the devil is in the detail. In this case the hidden costs of the salary. I made a point of mentioning that Sunderland will often pay way over the odds just to attract players to that neck of the woods. EFC were not prepared to match their pitch on this and so we need to forget about him and move on. So your point is?

Mr Luthor, any jobs going at Luther Corp??

To be honest, I agree with what you are saying about certain players at Everton, but it disgusts me that A) We have players in our team that are not comfortable on the ball and B) That there are players playing at the top level like that.

Just seen that Senderos could be on his way to us, but it’s probably total crap!

But let’s humour the story, does anybody think he would be a good signing in the absense of Lescott??

Please someone tell me the Senderos thing is a wind-up? Senderos and Hibbert in the same team? May as well go the whole hog now and sign Bramble and Traore and we’d have the ultimate comedy defence!

On a serious note, it's becoming obvious our transfer budget is nothing 'til we sell Lescott, who I reckon will be gone by next week for £25m. We could do worse than getting Cahill off Bolton for about £8m, Hutton for £5m, Elm for £5m, Delph £5m and I’d even have Bentley on loan if we could get him. Now back to Championship Manager for me...

Colin, I agree with the names mentioned. City seem determined to keep bidding for Lescott and I’m sure that soon enough he will hear of the wages they want to give prompting a transfer request.

Senderos is not the player to replace him, however, having gone backwards after a bright start to his Arsenal career... Hutton would be a big improvement over Hibbert but then so was Jacobsen who was let go. The action will probably begin this week regarding any moves.

Colin, besides the fact that Wolves will get 10% of his sell-on fee after the £5m, so you honestly think that all the money from the transfer will go straight back Moyes’s pocket for new signings... not a chance.

Also, one player goes, four come in, just think of the hike the wages alone that will need more money again.

I was just wondering what everybody thinks of a cut-price move for Pedro Mendes? Rangers are as we all no in financial difficulty and may cash in. Just watched him play against PSG and he was out on his own... In the Arteta mould and would take over some of the creative duties.

He is still only 30 and would be a good addition due to our small budget and wealth of European & Premier League experience. At this stage I thing we need a few quality cost efficient bodies. COYB
