Distin

Comments (7)

Bit surprised that the September Player of the Month poll doesn't have Distin as an option.

Ok, I wouldn't have voted for him myself... but given the long list of other candidates, I am surprised he wasn't considered worthy of a place.

Not the most defensively challenging opposition in September but Distin has still impressed me a great deal. He seems to have clicked with his team-mates ultra quickly. He is showing intelligence and has been pretty good coupling that with his size and pace.... and he picked up a goal too.

I can't be the only one that is relieved how quickly Distin has made memories of Lescott fade.

Hope Yobo is back for the league this weekend...

I agree Distin has slotted in very well and done a good job for us.
Not sure he’s done anything spectacular enough to be in with a shout for player of the month though. Just the job he’s paid for.
Got your blue tinted specs on there Tom?

Agree with you about Lescott. In fact he’s looked very shaky lately for City. Ahh well!

Does anyone know when the club are going to announce the ticket situation for Benfica. I have everything booked yet still no idea if I am going to be sat in the Everton end or if I am going to have to buy a ticket elsewhere ?

Tony, It says on BK that the rumours we are getting 3500 and if that is true then what a joke, their ground seemed empty in their game against Bate. I would only assume our club officials will only ask for that many in case we don't sell them when we will sell twice that amount, this figure could be bullshit though, as Nuremberg got 6000 and had many more scattered around the ground when they played there.

As for Distin, amid all the deserved credit for Hibbert, Distin was superb, reading the game, in the air and his distribution was top draw too.

I was just thinking the same thing. I know he is in his early thirties but comparing the Lescott transfer and his shows the great piece of business we did.

Very impressive.

Tom — as you will agree, not player of the month, but shall we say, relief of the month.

Lescott was a pillar for us, not perfect, few of us are, but a good one. Through no fault of our own he has to be replaced. So who steps into that space?

Silvain Distin looks like he’s been with us forever. Personally, I hope he never makes player of the month — unless he bangs in a goal or two to win a cup or two, for example. Otherwise, we just need him to carry on doing what he is already doing so well for us.

And didn’t he say he’d had the friendliest welcome at any club he’d ever played for? Works both ways, I reckon.

Excuse me Tom - can I just borrow your post for a moment (I’ll send it in as a post of my own but, well, you know).

If any other ex-pats haven’t been able to see last night’s goals from any other source, let me recommend

soccer360.co.uk

Most games seem to be there the day after.

Just having had a chance to review them in detail, yesterday’s show

1. if Fellaini had moved more slowly (yes, more slowly) he would have blocked their goal-bound shot

2. Fellaini’s header could be put into any coaching manual under "attacking header" and

3. Cahill was convincingly on-side when Bily nodded the ball through.

Ain’t technology wonderful.

I would think Saha is the obvious winner but Distin has been a great buy. He isn’t an attention grabber but he does a very good dependable job and the fact we’ve kept 4 or 5 recent clean sheets speaks volumes considering that many view his co-horts as "shite" (Hibbert); unable to turn (Heitinga); David James like (Howard); Corporal Jones from Dad’s army panicking (Yobo); and out of form but at best a better attacker than defender (Baines).

Presumably Distin has managed to find a way to cover all of their inadequacies.
