Benfica away tickets

Comments (13)

Could anyone clarify the points system used for eligibility for Benfica away tickets?

As a season ticket holder, previous visits to Fiorentina and Liege through the Thomas Cook scheme, a couple of domestic away games last season, thought I'd be ok for Benfica tickets but it's not the case.

Apparently I need two points but only have one (for the Liege game). It does state on the EFC website that 09/10 season ticket holders gain another point but they fail to point out that this only applies if you are a new season ticket holder this season. Renewing of season ticket holders do NOT get the extra point!

Why can't they make the whole thing transparent and list how points are allocated on the EFC site?

Glyn,

If you were a season ticket holder and signed up to the travel club before the Liege game my understanding is that you should have got one point for signing up last season. This is what they said when it first started http://www.evertonfc.com/travel-club.html

I thought you needed one point to go to Liege.

Again, they could have meant that new season ticket holders for 08/09, but it does not state that.

Don’t know if that helps or not!

Unless you are a rocket scientist I dont think you will be able to understand how it gets allocated.

Why I am unhappy about is that the game is only 2 weeks away and dont know how to yet get a ticket.

Surely the club must know how many went to Germany and should have asked for more. They can send unsold ones back 7 days before the game and not get charged.

Madness as most people who want to go have already planned hotels and booked flights

Looks like most of us will be in the home ends then again, whilst the away section is half empty

Trevor,

If you look at the ticket section of the Benfica website the whole of the upper section of the CocaCola stand (the away end) is not available to purchase. Based on the size of the ground and looking at pictures this must be around 5-6000 seats. What I would gather from this is that they are reserving them all for Everton supporters as they don’t often sell out the other stands. As Everton say they have an initial allocation of 3,000+, but if they get more appications than that I imagine they will just ask for extra tickets they need so aren’t forced to but more than they actually want.

So if you are hoping to get one and don’t have the 2 points you just need to apply and I would have thought that you would get a ticket in the end, but as usual with Everton at the very last minute!

Anthony

I, like many other supporters am going out there for a short break and I fly out on the Wednesday morning.

Basically this means that if I have been unable too or EFC have not decided what to do about tickets by next Friday then I will have to buy out there

The club can apply for more tickets and send them back as I said before if not required, by next Thursday, without penalty.

Surely by that date anyone who does want one through the club would have purchased it and if not then its down to them not the club

At what point do you think the powers that be are going to think, hhmmmmmm we need some more tickets ?

If its not by this Friday then we are looking at least the middle of next week before then get shipped over from Lisbon and then posted out I am guessing.

Its not like we are playing the game just down the road

2 questions:

1. How many people have definitely applied for tickets. Does anyone actually know?

2. Can anyone categorically state that the club have not already applied for more tickets and are just waiting for an answer?

If you don’t know whether you qualify ring the ticket number, I did.

If you struggle to get a ticket pass a glance towards those people that buy tickets but don’t want to go to the game. They’re just building up points for the later rounds.

I couldn’t agree more.

The points system is probably a good idea – it’s just the implementation that’s shite. When the points system was first announced, there was no detail with it eg whether points earned in one competition would apply to other competitions. Since then, little has changed.

For these Europa Cup away matches, it can’t be that difficult to publish a list that says these are the games that you could have earned points on & whether season ticket holders have got an extra point or not. We haven’t played that many European away matches in recent years. But this is Everton and they would prefer keeping us all in the dark rather than be open about how things work.

I am flying out to Lisbon a week on Tuesday — I have applied for a ticket, but have got no idea if I have any points or not. Even if I qualify for a match ticket, I have no idea whether I will get the ticket on time. I also don’t believe that hundreds of Evertonians should have to telephone the club to check on how many points they have got — what a waste of our time & the club's.

Incidentally, I booked the flight on the 28 August — the day of the cup draw — over 5 weeks ago, so it’s not like EFC haven’t had ages to sort something out.

What a shambles!

Glyn,

I believe that if you are a member of the European Travel club and a season ticket holder, you should already have the first point. Then I think you have to have been to a European away game. So you should qualify.

I mean, you cant do much more — other than a trip to BATE and Sigma!

I spoke to Everton today regards tickets and the points allocated; response was: "2 points virtually guarantees a ticket but your holding me up counting the applications! I'm the only one who can do it and there are thousands!!!" (Surely only max of 1,500 - once corporate and travel schemes receive theirs but....)

Now I'm sure a better system could of been used, every Evertonian with a customer number is on their computer system. so why it couldn't have been done online?!

Also, I explained that I have purchased independent travel tickets for Monday 19th and asked when it was likely to get confirmation or tickets available to collect. Response: "That's on your head, we haven't even got tickets yet and won't know 'til Friday who gets one!"

On a positive note though, I'll get my point no matter what!!! Shite system.

@ Davin Janicki...

I’ve been considering doing the same, will probably give it a few more days to see if anything materialises through the club though. Just wondering if you had to get your tickets sent to a Lisbon address or whether they’re sending them to the UK? Where abouts did you book - the lower tier below the away end or one of the stands just to the side?

I offered my Hotel address and she said that wouldn’t be necessary and that she would leave the tickets at Will Call. Same process at Goodison and here in the States. I was surprised to hear that they were shipping them to Hotels. Sounds dodgy to me, most hotels here in the states don’t really receive mail for guests. Maybe a few of the high end ones...

I just asked her to sit me as close to the Everton section as possible. She said that this would be the upper tier behind the goal. She said she wasn’t sure where the Everton section would be but she would put me near where the traditional away section was.

Oh, they don’t speak English so it helps to have someone who speaks the language help out. I asked a co-worker, we’ve got a huge Brazilian population here in Boston.

Thanks for the details, at least buying tickets in the home end shouldn’t be a problem by the sound of it.
