England Squad for South Africa

Comments (10)

Cappello reckons he has 16 out of 24 places filled for the World Cup in South Africa. This got me thinking about Everton players' involvement for England...

It wasn't long ago when we could have supplied 3 out of a 4-man defence but, with the injury to Jags, the sale of Lescott and the form of Baines at the start of the season, it looks like our input to the England team will be minimal or none at all.

The likelihood, barring injuries is, Jags might play himself into a squad role but is unlikely to displace the captain. Baines has improved of late but has two decent left backs in front of him. The only other hope is Rodwell but I feel the competition from Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Hargreaves and Carrick will be too strong.

So in summation England looks like they will go to the next World Cup without any Everton players. If this happens which is more than likely... COME ON YOU AUSSIES, AND BAFNA BAFNA... not forgetting USA! USA!!!

Haha.. that would be Bafana Bafana... or as we say here in SA, Banana Banana: couch on the verge of being fired — not that he ever should have been hired in hte first place.

They say look who he lost to: Germany, Spain and Brazil.... leaving out that, the last two were Norway and Iceland...

Anyway... I think you’re right: very unlikely we’ll have anyone on the plane here...

ps: anyone coming to PE give me a shout? I'm only 1 km from the stadium...

I hope there are no Everton players in the England squad to be honest. No sooner are they in with that gang of mercenary, unlikeable cnuts then they are usually off to pastures new!

See: Nick Barmby, Joleon Lescott, Wayne Rooney... will Rodwell be next? Probably...

If Jags returns to form quickly, he will be going, and whilst he won’t replace Terry, look at the rest of them. Rio keeps making mistakes, JLo is playing the worst football he’s produced in years and Upson is decidedly average.

Unfortunately Ashley Cole is Capello’s man so, barring injury he is in, but Baines could push Bridge for second spot.

I doubt Rodwell will go, but next World Cup will be a different matter.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jack Rodwell captain England at a World Cup in the future. Fingers crossed he will still be an Everton player.

Surely Rodwell will go if he keeps up his early season form. The boy simply does not waste the ball. I honestly reckon he will be the shock call-up we always get in major tournaments. Although it won't be a shock to blues fans.

Baines won't unless Bridge is injured and I can't see Jags getting back to his best until next season because he's been out for so long.

I’m sure they would love to go, but from an Everton position it's good news: No tapping up!

We all can follow the Yanks, the Saffas, the Super Eagles, the Ruskies, the French and the Ute driving stingray molesters.

I think the Aussies could be worth an each-way bet.

It's hard to predict what will happen.

If Jagielka recovers his form quickly then he is most likely to go but Rodwell has an outside chance.

One injury to Bridge or Cole and Baines could find himself on the plane.

It's too hard to predict at the moment.

It’s a big ask for Jags to get into that squad with no competitive games before the finals. I reckon only injury to key players will get either himself or Baines on the plane.

Rodwell however, is another matter altogether. If he keeps playing the way he is at the moment, he could be in the next senior squad for the friendlies and if he impresses, he could earn a place in the squad.

I for one hope he doesn’t go and possibly have his head turned by some of the arseholes in that squad. Unless we become genuine challengers over the next few years, he’s unlikely to stay, but hopefully he’ll be around for a while yet.

Don’t build your hopes up for England's WC Chances. A glance at the likely squad shows that it will comprise of too many have been there before and failed.

No-one can convince me that Gerard, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole and James are any better than they were 4 years ago. Rooney cannot carry that group of injury-prone geriatrics of his own bat.

For me, I would like to see Jack Wiltshire get more games for the Arse, he and Rodwell are the stand out young talent at the momment and Wiltshire is for me has the better chance of a shock inclusion, due to the lack of decent left footed midfielders in the England set up.
