The purple kit

Comments (10)

Haven't seen anything in the mailbag about the new limited edition charity kit so I thought I'd pen a quick note.

Personally I think its actually better than both our current home and away kits (especially the latter)! I see from the news feed that the purple top is outselling the home shirt 3:1 at the online shop. Here's hoping even more get sold (its for a great cause after all) and the team actually wear it at some point this season (does anyone know if this is planned?).

I would think that its is out-selling the home kit by 3 to 1 because of the fact that the home kit has been out for 4 months, and most who want it will already have it. Not sure if the purple kit will be worn, its a limited edition strip for charity so I would imagine it's more a collector's item, but ya never know.

I doubt they will wear it for a game.

I have bought one but I doubt it will outsell the home kit for long as there are only 14,000 of them made.

It is a collector's item, as it says so on the tin (label on the shirt).

Just to bemuse some of posters on here, I have actually paid extra to have the Premier League badges on the sleeves and Hibbert 2 on the back.

Go on the Hibbo, Hibbert scores... we riot.

As the proceeds go to charity it will be interesting to see if LFC follow our lead and produce something similar - in fact exactly the same except for the badge and any logo etc.,

Tony, it will be interesting to see how much is actually going to charideee.

The bog standard price of the top is £50, with the badges, name and number I am paying £68.

So if we go for 14,000 x £50 it is £700.000 but yet the charity are looking to receive £100,000. Does that mean the other £600,000 (at least) is goig to the club? (After deducting costs of actually manufacturing the shirts...)

If so, it does seem a little iffy making so much money off the back of a charity.

It make no difference now I suppose, as I have already ordered the top anyway.

I see the kids top has no sponsor on it, while the adult version has Chang. Would it not be a good idea to put the charities name on the kids top to help promote it.

@ Kevy

They can’t put our sponsor’s name on the kids’ kit cos it’s illegal. You can’t have anything to do with the demon drink on a child’s sports shirt.

Even stricter rules apply in France. It can’t be on ANY sports kit. Hence when Wales’ rugby team play there, they have ’Brawn’ on their shirts instead of ’Brains" (Brewery)

Think I read that 10% of shirt sales is going to charity.

Alcohol advertising on children's kits ain't illegal, just against the advice of the Portman Group which is an organisation formed by a group of drinks manufacturers, with the purpose of promoting sensible drinking and avoiding alcohol misuse. I am pretty sure that the shower of shite across the park still have their sponsor on the kids shirts, well probably they do anyway.

I never said to put Chang on the kids top, I know the reasons why it's not on the top. I said why not put the charity's name Liverpool Unites on it to help promote the charity. That probably makes too much sense for the people in control of our club though.

Matt
Unfortunately my lad’s a red and they still put Carlsberg on all their kids kits.

Chang, or parent company ThaiBev, also produce a range of soft drinks, mineral water etc. The Chang logo can be used on kids tops. The "Chang Beer" logo would be an issue.

Tobacco companies do this to avoid sponsorship barriers. Which is why the likes of Philip Morris or BAT will often produce other products, even eau de toilette, to get their brand name in.
