Moyes's media blackout

Comments (16)

I looked on the official website this morning for some reaction from staff at the club (hopefully the manager) after last night's exit from the Carling Cup. Unusually I saw nothing and immediately thought 'Moyes has thrown his toys out of the pram'. Sure enough a quick glance at the BBC Sport website confirms that Moyes has imposed a media blackout in protest at the fact that the game at Spurs wasn't rearranged as requested by Everton.

I think our manager is making himself and the club look foolish here. If his protest is against the Carling Cup organisers then he's failed dismally. They won't give much importance to whether Moyes moans in the press and then refuses to talk altogether.

Lets face it, we're not talking about a club that are key to the sucess of this tournament in terms of our media profile or previous record in the competition. In fact he's probaably giving the competiion more publicity by actually NOT talking about the game.

As far as I can see he's punishing no-one but those fans who would like to see an explanation for another disappointing defeat. Another PR own goal from Everton.

I am generally quite supportive of David Moyes, and think he has been good for Everton, however as far as this is concerned sadly I agree, seems he’s having a strop and what is worrying is that HIS attitude will affect the players attitude.
Something isn’t quite right, but there again something hasn’t been quite right for sometime yet we seem to make a fist of things eventually.

Sorry but I disagree. Moyes is right to talk about a lack of respect. He wants to win a trophy and will have seen the CC as an ideal potential route back to Wembley. He has consistently tried to field strong teams in this competition, unlike many others who treat it as an outing for fringe players and reserves. He and we are entitled to similar consideration.

There are plenty of precedents for the game to have been played on (say) Thursday night, and I have no doubt that, had it been Chelski or Manure, the story would have been different.

Affect on the players? Moyes is doing his best to create a siege mentality ahead of what will be a critical month in our season and I think this will be the way the players take it too "us against them". Might help if Evertonians took a similar view instead of having a pop at easy targets all the time.

The game couldnt have been played tonight (Wednesday) as Arsenal were also at home and the very people who pay millions to clubs wanted the game shown on TV. Also the trip to Lisbon was only a 2 hour flight on the same time zone so that cant be a major factor.

Over xmas we play 3 league games over 8 days and yet you never see anyone moan about that. I realise its two days less, however I am sure that time of year is more taxing on the players

Steve, didn’t the Mancs have a difficult game against the Shite on Sunday? They also played last night.

Protesting about the Fixture list ... My Arse!

He’s gone into hiding with that twat Kenright as he doesn’t want to answer any awkward questions. Not that his sychophantic media buddies ever ask him.

I want to kknow:

We knew what our fixtures would be at in the Summer & our long term injuries so why did you NOT buy & prepare sufficiently?

These were NOT kids we put out last night so why can’t you train, organise & motivate them better?

When will Fellaini ever be anywhere near the value of player you paid for him & what was Heitinga bought for?

Why do you think you are worth £65,000 per week, what do you do to deserve this?

Football pundits & your media chums lord your football knowledge & tactical nous. Why can’t I or many other Evertonians see any evidence of this?

Do you really think that you’ll ever be offered the Man Utd job, when your team (Yes Davey you bought nearly all last nights shower) play the football (or lack of it) they do?

Can you im-AGINE how sick they (the media) must be!

And Carling must be KICKING themselves.

They’ll have ALL spent today FUUUUMING!

Plus, I imagine this morning, all over the country, there were people saying "No Moyes comments after the Spurs game - I was fucking GUTTED!"

If ONLY they had let us play on Wednesday, they could have had something along the lines off...

Bloke with a mic: "David, your problems with injuries are the stuff of nightmares, how do you expect to line up against Spurs tonight"

Moyes: (hitching kecks up) "Well obviously Harry knows whit ’ees daein an’ Spozz are a real guid side just noo. We’ve had tae chop n’ change a wee bit, but if we compete the way we can, ah feel we can come away wi’ sumthin"

Bloke with mic: "Good luck".

Moyes: "Cheers"

(I don’t think it’ll happen to us again in a hurry!)

Moyes, you fool —don’t go into hiding because of playing 3 games in 6 days. It's tough shit! You cope with this by having something called a squad, a squad which you have plenty of players (not kids) for all the cup/league competitions which you full well knew back in June you needed.

Rather than chucking your toys out the pram, maybe you should point the finger at Billy Boy for not helping you out there!

Brian....yes the Mancs did play last night too, but didn’t play 3 games in six days which is Moyes’s point; if they had played 3 in 6 you can bet a certain Alex Ferguson would have been bleating a damn sight louder than Moyes. If it’s comparisons concerning teddy bears and prams, that same Alex F is still refusing to speak to the BBC, what must be 5 years after a perceived slight to manure’s performance (or something...I doubt if anyone bar Ferguson or the BBC can remember what it actually was).

However, I can see already by the posts already submitted that I’m on a hiding to nothing in feeling that Moyes has a valid point and made it in a way which just might get what remains of his squad rallied around for Saturday and beyond. Why are people attacking the Manager of our Club simply because he stuck up for latter? There was a time when a Manager of Everton would have been applauded for taking such a stance. It seems some are happy for any chance to take a pop at Moyes even when he’s actually defending the Club, his players and at the end of the day the supporters too.

I said in my original post that November is a critical month, Villa is followed by Benefica, West Ham, Manure, Hull and the RS and December’s no easier; although we’ll hopefully start to get numbers back by then.

I just think that the time has come to stop carping and griping and get behind Moyes and the team both in the stands and anywhere else too (e.g. TW). Until January at the earliest (and on previous history don’t hold your breath), we are stuck with the players we have, fit or otherwise and with Moyes for a good deal longer.

I’ll be doing my best from the Upper Bullens on Saturday as usual. Will you?

On the bright side, at least we get an extra day to prepare for Villa on Saturday!

I don’t have a problem with what Moyes did if he feels its the only way to make a point (the fact that the media are talking about it means gets the point across as they know why he’s done it).

As for the games issue, yes Man Utd played Sun & tues but they hadn’t played Thurs beforehand as well, we were the olny club that had to play Thurs, Sun & Tues.

His main point was that we always try & play our best team in the Carling cup meaning it would be near enough the same team that played those 3 games, whereas teams like Liverpool & Arsenal get an extra day and will field the reserves anyway so really the short gap doesn’t affect them. So if the issue was Arsenal on TV, why couldn’t that game be shown on TV and then we could play on Wednesday.

Good point Dan, plus Villa played an extra half hour AND pens so we should piss all over them in the last half hour.

Does he think we’d have performed any better had we had that extra day? He’s losing it.

You hit the nail on the head. Who the heck wanted to hear Moyes moaning about the fixture list again anyway? One day wouldn’t have made a blind bit of difference and I say that based upon the fact he used the same team on Sunday and they were rubbish and the same team basically last Thursday at the start of the run of games and they were even more rubbish.

How bad must the young players feel about themselves when they sit on the bench and can’t even get a run out when we are being murdered? Are they really that bad? If so, why even have them on the bench when we could try our luck with the under 16s or under 15s or 14s or wherever there is some hope of some talent emerging???

The really sad thing is that, for a man who loves to play people out of position (Moyes seems to think RB,CM and CH are easily interchanged e.g.Yobo, Jags, Heit, Nev), the one player he never ever drops in his rag-tag out-of-position line-up is the least versatile player in the squad... Tim Cahill.

I am not the only one gutted about recent results and performances but now we need to forget what’s happened and rally behind the lads on Saturday. First home game after three away games so let's get an additional 30,000+ more voices behind the team and Moyes and see if we can lift their spirits a little.

As fans, we have the right to have our say, positive or negative, but at this time the lads need to know we are rooting for them this weekend and let's see if they can come away with all three points.

I live in Singapore, where well knowledge about Everton is practically non-existent. I was surprised to see the following listed as one of the top discussions in the local paper's website.

I guess no publicity is bad publicity. Maybe, we need to make a big cry about all happenings to get the brand rolling.
