Going, Going, Go???

Comments (17)

I saw a reference in my paper yesterday to Sir Alex sending out orders for reports on Rodwell. Apparentley the arrangement in question would be for Rio Ferdinand to switch to Tottenham some time next year and for United to bring in Rodwell.

Will we face the same situation as per Lescott? How will Moyes and Kenwright play that one?

If United start making noises that they definitely are interested, will EFC quietly accept the inevitable, whilst publicly stating he isn't going anywhere (at least not until the price is right)? Its all paper speculation, of course, but it makes the wheels go round (or fall off if you're a toffee)!!!

Will the lesson a la Lescott have been learned, and moves be made early next summer to get not only Rodwell's replacement in, but 2 or 3 others as well instead of leaving it till one minute to midnight?

A lot of water will have flowed under the proverbial bridge by then, and Rodwell's own decision may well be influenced by where EFC finish at the end of this season.

For myself, sadly, I can't see him turning United down. Even if our season turns out to be much better than at present, Moyes will have a hell of a job convincing Rodwell why it will be in his best interests to stay at EFC (I almost typed Goodison then, but remembered the elephant in the room that is DK).

We can hardly promise him more silverware than them can we? Everton 2010 FA Cup winners? Somehow I doubt it. Well, it's our own fault, we should have got Senderos in when we had the chance.

Sorry, but Autumn blues and pessimism, together with the fact I will be 57 on bonfire night make me a miserable sod at the moment. 3 points today and Rodwell to score just might make a difference!!! COYB.

This my line in the sand with EFC. If they sell Rodwell to Man Utd, I’m finished with them.

Where exactly has this Rodwell to United story came from? Or have we decided already that any prospect we ever have must move on?

Agree with you Jay, Kenwright will be rubbing his hands already about how much he can get for him. I have no doubt that by the time he moves to Utd we’ll have put the usual spin on it and he’ll leave under a dark cloud amid accusations of ’greed’ . Where really he was sold by a Chairman who doesnt give a f**k about anything but lining his own pockets...o and moving the club to Kirkby

Surely it will come down to what the player wants. If he makes it known that he doesn’t want to stay the club can make it difficult for him but these days player power or should that be agent power rules football

Rodwell is doing pretty good despite his tender age but he’s hardly setting the Premiership on fire.

I’m not blaming him but Everton have been pretty awful since Rodwell became a regular.

Rodwell isn’t Everton’s best player. In fact you would struggle to put Rodwell in the Top 5 at Everton. 1.Arteta. 2. Jagielka. 3. Pienaar. 4. Saha. 5. Yakubu.

So if Rodwell isn’t one of the Top 5 players at Everton. You have to ask, why would Man Utd want him?

Maybe in a few years.

The same story came out back in the summer when he had a stormer for the U21’s. Its basically because he is English and Man U are going to need a new defender in a few years time due to Rio’s age. I know he started off at CB but out of necessity Moyes has played him in the DM role, which he has excelled. My only question is why he didn’t play at CB in the recent weeks when we haven’t had any defenders available. If he was that classy a CB then he would covered back there.

My feelings on this is that Man Utd may be LOOKING at Rodwell at the moment... but, from where I’m standing, he has a hell of a lot to do before they show real interest.

Sorry guys, but I really don’t see (yet) what all the fuss is about Rodders. Good young player... that’s about it for me.

If they want a like-for-like replacement for Ferdinand, they do a good range of thick wooden posts in B&Q.

They are guaranteed to stay rooted to the spot when approached by a forward.

Dick, that comment totally befits your name.

’Since Rodwell became a regular’ - what are you implying? The BOY is playing out of his skin & has been one of our better players this season.

The reason why Man U are ’looking’ at him is as plain as Benitez has lost his mind, because he’s 18, got huge potential and is a footballer in the true sense.

Whilst the other players are great for us, (it pains me to say) the other players you mention, apart from Jags, I humbly dont think they would make it above our level.

Andy, you’re quite right. If Man Utd had the chance to sign any Everton player it would be Jack Rodwell.

John,
Rodwell will pay for one of the stands at DK.

Your whole post is surely rhetorical anyway. We all know what will happen.

The only thing I find interesting in the story you relate is that Taggart sees him as a CB.

Lads, I teach Jack’s cousin and he has told me that he would definitely NOT consider a move to Man Utd.

His cousin told me that he has already had concrete offers from both United and Chelsea, but not Arsenal, as many have predicted, and hence the club have turned them down.

I’ve read this several times and it will happen. Not with the acrimony that surrounded the Lescott affair because it will be done openly and above board. We will either sell him or we will buy no new players next summer. Welcome to small teamhood.

I’ve said on at least three other posts that the only stream at Everton making money is selling players. Don’t expect anything different in the foreseeable future unless Kenwright leaves... but I’m not holding my breath.

Rodwell right now isn't good enough for a CL team; however, in a couple of years he will be and that's why Utd would show an interest. I fully expect him to become an England regular but not while he is an Everton player.

He will see the lack of ambition and wages at Everton compared with the teams above us and we will go through our usual routine of the Board saying he is not for sale and then we sell him close to the end of the window. We then won't spend all the money and complain how we only got the money too late to act. It's the Kenwright/Everton way...

The only way Rodwell will stay at Everton is if we can get new investment or new ownership AND we actually qualify for the Europa Cup next season AND in the 2010-11 season actually finish in the Top 4.

Tall order — but either Bill will want the cash or Rodwell will want CL and we therefore will need all of the above for him to stay.
