Backroom staff

I pen this article due to the sheer frustration of the manu game. Moyes's tactics — or lack thereof — brought home to me the thought that he lacks quality in his backroom staff — only Jimmy Lumsden was a midfielder who reached a reasonable level playing at Leeds but never held down a first-team place.

So who is the tactical genius in our backroom at EFC? ... Well, erm... is it Moyes, who played centre-half? I don't know...

What I do know is the best footballing side, Arsenal, had (until last year) Liam Brady shaping the kids up in the reserves for 12 years to slot straight into the first team as though they had always been there.

Well, I suppose I'd best point the finger at Alan Irvine because, since November 2007, Moyes has controlled all the major decision-making. Maybe he needs a strong right-hand man who won't let him have all his own way on the team affairs.

I have played Sunday league — even I know with one up front and a midfield as slow as ours is asking for trouble; we got away with it in 2004 with Marcus Bent who ran like shit off a shovel but neither of our three front runners have blistering pace... that's why I would have played 4-4-2 and bypassed the midfield (don't laugh) and held the ball up for the midfield to get a bus there. At least it would have pushed Utd back and we might've ventured out of our own half.

So I ask those blues who read this, who is their choice to be Moyes's right-hand man... why our Peter Reid ended up at Stoke is beyond comprehension — even Stoke have half decent back room staff in Gerry Francis (ex-QPR and England) and Peter Reid.

I"ll say no more... what a shame we have to put together thoughts like this: one step forward, two steps back... what I want for January is a pacey defensive midfielder, sorry to say, in the mold of Macherrano and Roy Keane, and a defensive midfielder with a great engine playing for Lyon and available in January, Kim Kalstrom.

Creativity and pace is what we need. Heitinga, Rodwell, Fellaini, Neville......

Gareth - bizarrely what he wants is 2 defensive midfielders....one quick one like Keane (quick??) and then Kim Kalstrom apparently who is bound to leave Lyon and come to us.

Another pointless FM style post because Moyes is really likely to sack off (at great cost) the assistant he spent months and months searching for and replace him with someone suggested in the Toffeeweb mailbag.....I think not.

And who can blame Moyes for wanting to wear the trousers sure it might not be great for the team but what manager in their right mind doesn’t want to make the big decisions....Houlier and Evans (spit) anyone??

I’ve wondered this many times, our backroom staff - to a man, are cloggers through and through. They may well be nice blokes, but none were ever what you’d call creative or individuals. Defenders to a man. Little wonder the only creative sparks are players who have come from outside this mindset (who are then urged to forget what they’ve learnt elsewhere and start endurance training it seems).

I’m surprised Moyes isn’t under more pressure to be honest, we’re supposed to be challenging the top four and we’re going to have trouble keeping out of the bottom four, we’re currently playing unwatchable football yet.

......and they all look the same too Andy

the backroom staff reflect the manager - dour, limited experience and none of them throw the ball back quickly enough
