Again Pienaar looks fantastic in the middle. Hope Davey keeps him there when Arteta returns...now that will be a creative central midfield.

Good stuff from the young’uns all round.

Bily being effective down the left.

As above the Big Fella doing well in a deeper role.

Hibbo marshalling well from the back.

Jo playing his best so far this season. Now has a coupleof games under his belt.

Watching the game on ESPN, has the penny dropped, Moyes? Balance in midfield looks good, Felli holding with Pienaar, Bily wide with Baxter wide, Cahill supporting Jo... we look much much better. Better football on a shite pitch! Peanuts, Felli, Cahill and Jo have been excellent, this is the way forward, even if we lose tonight.

Well done Shane Duffy, Seamus Coleman and Jose Baxter, couldn’t have asked for more in difficult circumstances.

Through with a game to spare - we’ll be able to give a few of the kids a run out in the last group game.

Pluses from the game:
Pienaar, Billy, Coleman, Duffy.

Cahill is definitely better playing up front (and behind the front man), with Felli playing deep. Best game for Jo, but pity he has gone off injured.

Gerry: Yes we do have more. At the rate the lads are getting injured, we should expect to see more of Agard, Hope, Mustafi, Peterlin and Wallace soon.

Just watched a replay of Bily's goal again... finally looks like we have a left foot to fill Kevin Sheedys left boot.

Good night for Irish Blues, Coleman and Duffy were brave and strong

Right, let the Hibbert bashing begin. How has this clown notched up a record number of European games etc etc blah blah blah.

Well played Hibbo, I for one think your dedication, determination and work ethic make up for your obvious lack of true class.
And you’re not a bad deputy centre half either.
Top lad.

Totally agree Michael. Ive just read down the list of posts on Toffeeweb tonight, starting with Iain Smith’s first post about Hibbo and Coleman playing. "Good god" he says. I hope he has eaten his words already. A man of the match performance from Hibbo i think. Not easy switching from right-back to centre-half but i thought for the two games he’s had to switch, he’s done it well. Especially with Coleman and Duffy in defence with him. I thought he done fantastic. He definately is a Top lad. COYB

Watched the game in USA on DirectTV. A solid performance from all concerned. Collectively they worked their socks off. Pienaar was a standout but credit too to the much maligned Jo who did a lot in this game,in addition to making the first goal. A captains performance from Cahill also. We deserved to hold out for the win when they threw everything at us in the last 10 minutes. Credit to the young kids.A part from getting lucky with the late penalty appeal, Coleman put the Benfica game solidly behind him
