James Beattie

Almost apologetic about this. But bearing in mind the other thread I just wondered.

He will be well motivated, proving himself against the situation that has cropped up, he really cannot be on that much money by comparison, he may well enjoy the buzz of being back, but then again.....

Any thoughts?

ps: I would; a low-cost loan, maybe... with a view to our being pleasantly surprised?

Waste of time Ian. Beattie was never comfortable playing the lone striker the first time around. Jo’s first touch leaves Beattie for dead which doesn’t say much for Beattie.

Landon Donovan however would be a different story.

Yes, he was a resounding success last time... I remember well the 25+ goals a season he scored for us.

Fantastic player, when you want someone to back you up in a nightclub brawl... he’s yer man. Not much good when wearing football boots though... what is it? 2 goals this season...

We’re not even particularly short of strikers! I cant see Beattie possibly being chosen ahead of any of the five senior strikers we’ve got a the club.

I know they suffer from injuries, but a more realistic problem is keeping them all happy in what seems a permanent preference for 4-5-1.

Be serious man, the lad didn’t even look like a Premier League standard player. Jo is infinitely better.

Dear Christ NO!!!!

Beattie is a player who is identified with goal droughts...Yes, he sporadically might go and get 22 in a season - but most of his career has been about when he isn’t scoring..

We’ve been down that road.

Shocking player. Had chance after chance, and I don’t mean in the starting line up. I mean in front of goal. Maybe he was going for conversions for 2 points.

If we played him in a 4-4-2 then possibly but we play 4-5-1 so no. And, as some have said we aren't really that bad off for strikers at the moment.

If it was between Biffa and Donovan, I'd have to go for Donovan.

He’s by no means as poor a player as some of the comments are suggesting. A couple of years ago I saw him score a hat trick for Sheffield United in under 10 minutes. But I agree that the idea is a complete non-starter. We don’t particularly need a striker, he wouldn’t be an improvement on what we have, and second spells are generally a bad idea (remember Gravesen?).

Begs the question what was Tony Pulis thinking? .... He clearly doesn’t remember Everton vs Chelsea at Goodison.

You know the one - Ask William Gallas after Beattie nutted him and got sent off after 10 mins.

Now Landon Donovan, there’s a good player. Yes please.

Slight tangent, but after fantastic service to Everton, I think it’s time for Tim Cahill to move on. Moyes is obviously still a fan, but I can’t see him playing much of a part when everyone is fit and it would be insulting to have him as a bit part when he can play a major role elsewhere. I just think he’s lost the something that once made him special. He’s worth at least £5m if he’s sold in Jan or June. It would be good for him & good for the club.

But Beattie? very silly question.

Ian, why would he want to come back to us? Afterall, he was a decent striker before he joined us, then look what Moyes did to the lad.

Oh boy, I feel guiltily responsible in a way for this thread. I jokingingly highlighted Biffa’s woes on the Jo thread and took the piss out of a Jo-Biffa partnership. Someone took it seriously!

A lot of the Stokies I work with think he’s limited. Never a good sign. Plus, we’ve seen how he well he worked in the 4-5-1. because we are a dynamic team under a dynamic manager we are still using, er, the 4-5-1. No. Sorry, but no.

I can’t believe anyone would suggest bringng Bungling Beattie back. He was a flop and i couldn’t believe Moyes got £4.5m for him. No pace, poor first touch and a very ordinary goalscoring record put him in the Brett Angell catorgary when it comes to Everton strikers. Id question his attitude to as he comes across as a bit arrogant and thinks he’s better than he actually is. What next, bring back Simon Davies??

I know that Moyes didn’t exactly make life easy for Beattie, but this doesn’t get away from the fact that he’s never been anywhere as good as he thinks he is. The guy lacks discipline and self-awareness, and on many occasions at Everton revealed himself to be an insensitive and dopey prick- cupping his ear in the direction of a hostile Park End after he’d scored for the first time in ages? I fucking ask you!!!

He’s ok when he’s fired-up and on a mission to prove doubters wrong, but all-too often he’s a smug and self-satisfied berk. Asked on Soccer AM who Everton’s most intelligent player was he responded without even the vaguest hint of irony ’Me.’

There’s a reason he dropped down a division, and there’s a reason why Tony Pulis hasn’t been picking him.

I would rather a one-legged Jo lead the line than Beattie.

Give Ian a break guys. I don’t want him back either, but he is better than Jo, Big Vic and let's face it what's Yak doing? The main problem is the constant 4-5-1 which will be here as long as Moyes is. FFS sake even Birmingham play two up-front and look how many points they’ve picked up recently, even unlucky not to win at Anfield, and they’ve got new owners.......yeah I digress, but to say Beattie is worse than Jo?

To be fair I do remember Beattie ending one season as our leading goalscorer.

Ok he probably only scored around 12 goals but that more then Jo can ever hope to score for Everton.

Beattie was very average but Jo is a whole new level of pants.
