Today's Team vs Chelsea

Comments (215)

Howard, Hibbert, Neill, Heitinga, Baines, Rodwell, Fellaini, Bilyaletdinov, Jo, Saha, Pienaar. Subs: Nash, Yakubu, Coleman, Duffy, Agard, Akpan, Mustafi.

So much for 'Moyes doesn't do 4-4-2'. It's a pity for Coleman that he's on the bench again but knowing our luck he'll be on after 15 mins because of an injury.

Neil and Heitinga...a very dodgy looking partnership..

in midfield we look good when we pass it...but while we are playing 442..they look to have a couple of extra gears more than us...

Fellaini playing well, Rodwell quiet and Pienaar giving the ball away a lot.

Do they know Warnock doesnt play for us? If they are getting paid so much, they should atleast know the bloody players on the pitch. Every challenge by us is a penalty...and every Chelsea challenge is a FAIR one...i agree Chelsea are better than us..but they dont need the commentators to brown-nose for them!

Regardless of how this game ends, it's just nice to see us competing once again; I think our season is slowly turning around, all started by the inspired performance against Liverpool. The fact that we were totally robbed that day may have given the team its determination back. Good to see.

I think Landon Donovan would be a good move for us. We need the pace up front. Billy is going to be an ace player, but not when he’s totally knackered. I think he needs a short rest. Unfortunately, we can’t afford the luxury to give him that break.

We should have battered Chelsea today, with that team we’ve got there are NO excuses. Chelsea would have been shittin’ themselves when Agard came on - lucky for them he only had 2 minutes of injury time to do anything. Lucky barstuards!

When will Moyes learn that the only way we’ll continue to win and challenge for the league is when we buy someone of the class of Ronaldo!? MOYES OUT!!

I’m not a real fan of Everton by the way - GREAT result...

I’m off to drown my sorrows - getting a draw against the league leaders... the kids, 3 right backs and 2 crocked forwards ought to be ashamed!

Didn’t see that coming, I would have settled for an honourable loss. Howard was superb, Heitinga decent, Fellai good, Saha class, Rodwell... "was he playing"?

Great result, ok performance; I can see us ripping up the league now and maybe top 6 isn’t beyond us. Draw away at Chelski, draw at home to Spurs, better team against the R/S, players coming back, one loan sorted for Jan, at last something going for us.

Seminal moment: King Louis's fantastic back header.

Ok great fighting spirit and a decent result but two things worth thinking about:

1. David Moyes has still never beaten Chelsea.

2. Hull are now level on points with us and Wolves (who just beat Spurs) are now only a single point away.

Absolutely delighted with that result; I expected a thrashing. This is a Chelsea side that can blow away most teams in the world more often than not.

Sorry Ged, but your comment is plain ridiculous. I would suggest you aren’t a realist, especially given our situation currently.

On a sidenote, fair play to Jo. No quality whatsoever, of course, but he put a shift in whilst on the pitch. Louis Saha is a different class altogether.

Don’t say it too loudly, but if we can pick up 7-9 points in the next three games against Birmingham, Sunderland and Burnley... and then get the cavalry back in, we could be back in the mix by the new year!

Fingers crossed. We look a lot more like ’Everton’ the last few games, and that’s despite the beleaguered squad.

Richard: In the last few games, we definitely looked like the Everton we loved. The turning point seems to be the defeat in the derby. Now, we need to hang in there and pick up points in the next few games. If the bench today is any indication, we are running out of bodies.

Dick

1. A result we get against Chelsea doesn’t define our season so far - I’d rather have lost today and beaten Fulham, Wolves, Stoke, Burnley, Bolton, Hull and Bolton (and of course Liverpool!). Winning that little lot would have us in the top 3.

2. Hull were already level with us before today’s game (though point taken on the Wolves result)

As Richard says above, the next 3 games are winnable, and will go some way to getting us back on track (or leaving us in the shit if we lose).

Well played Ged Simpson — comedy gold, but your timing might not have been perfect?

Well we really scrapped for that, it’s a great point and coming off the back of the Hull second half, the unlucky derby, the hard-earned Athens win and the second half spirit against Spurs, it almost feels like a win.

The defence is still shot to pieces and Drogba and Anelka are a menace but there was much more attacking intent from Everton than we were seeing a few games ago.

It’s good to have Pienaar back and Rodwell/Fellaini is not a bad centre midfield. Bily’s not quite there yet — might be one of those who doesn’t cut it that well away from home in the PL... or might just be in a run of poor form.

Either way, with Distin back we’ll look a bit better again and if DM can have, and take advantage of, the luxury of being able to play players in their right position, we CAN start to climb the league. Starting against a very in-form Brum next weekend.

the main thing about Rodwell is that you aren’t supposed to know he’s playing. If he’d been our defensive hero today - which Heitinga was - we would have been in very deep shit - 6-0 against at least.
