New site for ground move?

Comments (10)

Just seen on the BBC 606 forum an article with a rumoured site for a new ground. Apparently Everton and LCC have been looking at a site on the Prescot Road/Green Lane junction. Don't know how much truth this rumour has!

It hardly matters, as nothing will come about. We’d be more realistic in trying to send an Everton space shuttle to the moon to build a stadium there!

Do not suggest that. Do you know how little gravity there is on the moon?

Just imagine the sort of hoofball we could play there.

Finding sites is the relatively easy bit. It’s paying for the stadium to go on it that’s difficult.

Where exactly would it be? It’s a built-up area, what space are they talking about, or what do they intend to knock down?Surely not the Casa Pizza!!

I think its an excellent suggestion. Quite a few industrial units to clear out or move elsewhere but I can see the shape of the plot that is being mentioned quite clearly.

The site in question is the run-down industrial estate in the Stanley area of Prescot Road next to the meat market / abbatoir. Previous plans mooted for this site have included both the Royal Liverpool Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s.

Issues have arisen that this may be a toxic site due to previous industrial usage. The footprint is certainly impressive; however, the transport infrastructure and narrow and congested road network would inevitably be problematic.

In terms of enabling projects there seems little value in achieving this, Tesco already has a big retail store in neighbouring Old Swan and a retail park would probably contravene local policy.

On a sidepoint, interesting to note that, as of next year, the X-Factor is to be co-produced by Simon Cowell and Sir Philip Green under the auspices of a joint business venture. In my opinion the collapse of DK was the point to flush out the silent partners operating behind the scenes at Everton; however, the generic apathy that exists within the ’Everton family’ will ensure that Blue Bill will be playing with his toy-set for sometime to come.

Well if Milton Keynes gets the nod for 2018 World Cup we may regret dilly-dallying over the idea of a joint state of the art stadium in Stanley Park ! Any thoughts on that ?

Yes Tony (Waring).

My thought is - ’I couldn’t give a shite’.

Seriously!

If the choice were...

1) Shared stadium, in which three 2018 World Cup games WILL be played.

Or..

2) Or stay at Goodison, ’miss out’ and Milton Keynes gets the nod.

Choice 2) would be mine, 100% abso-fucking-lutely!.

I understand some blues are all for a shared ground, and though I’m not, I don’t have any problem with their reasoning and/or logic and haven’t had a go at anyone who has expressed a pro-share sentiment (on TW or anywhere else).

However, a POSSIBLE World Cup in EIGHT years time that MIGHT offer ’our’ shared stadium three games, is NO reason to.... do ANYTHING.

We can and in my opinion SHOULD dilly-dally all the way.

No, Eugene, you got me wrong. I was actually thinking of staging the Final of the World Cup. If we had an extra three games it might mess up the pitch for the following seson !
