Just don't get it

From the Echo (I know, it's a shite paper)...

...EVERTON boss David Moyes celebrated a Stamford Bridge draw for the fourth successive season on Saturday night.

But the Blues manager admitted he had been bracing himself for a heavy defeat!
This shit boils my blood. The ONE person at the club that should believe in a team (and perhaps believe unrealisitically) that they can defeat anyone, in any circumstance is the Manager.

I have been proud of the fact that Moyes hasn't whined about injuries at every opportunity. We have had terrible problems compared to Liverpool and yet all you read is how injury-hit they are. I'm proud that we have just got on with it.

What annoys me is that Moyes is seemingly starting to submit to the fact that we are going to get beat and anything is a bonus. This isn't the first time this season and it doesn't exactly fill me with confidence (and I can imagine it has a negative effect on the team).

Does this annoy anyone else?

You were right in the first place Jamie, its a shite paper.

I’m pissed off with Moyes at the moment, but I didn't see him raise any white flags at The Bridge, did you?

Certainly see what you’re saying Jamie, though personally I’m glad that Moyes is frank and honest when asked a question. I actually think it’s one of his greatest strengths.

I wonder if Moyes will ever beat a Chelsea side?

He’s beaten Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool a couple of times but so far Chelsea have always gotten the upper hand over him.

It's a pretty awful record never to have beaten Chelsea over the 8 years he’s been managing us.

Jamie, as Dave so rightly said, it is a SHITE paper; I've just seen a vendor’s board with headline "Carra, I pray that it gets better".

I hope he remembers where their God resides, and looks down to see if Old Nick is still stoking the embers from yesterday.

I agree fully, Jamie, an absolute disgrace to hear our manager say that, honest or not. His job is to motivate and inspire.

You would never hear Ferguson, Wenger, the Fat Controller or any manager worth his mettle say that, not even Bruce, Redknapp or any other Premier League boss... unforgivable!!!

The thing that pisses me off and surely the players is comments like "with the players we have out there, it’s a great result..."

Do comments like this inspire the players we have out there who are playing or does it come across as "Fuck you, when we have our injured players back, you’re right out of the team"?

Taken right out of context if you ask me. He was basically saying that if you looked at the patched up team we had out against their nearly full strength side (barring Essien who I think is their best player), coupled with Chelsea’s home record, then nobody would have been surprised if we had taken a bit of a beating. He didnt come out before the game saying we would get beat, and he put a very attack-minded side out for a change.

I hope he takes things from that game forward to other games. We had a bit of luck with all of the goals, but throw enough players in the box and you make your own luck.

In a league full of no-marks like Benitez, I really welcome Moyes's honesty.

As Dan said, he didn't come out before the game and say we were going to get trounced and as sure as hell he didn't tell the players that either.

We should be glad we’ve got one of the most respected managers in the league, not seek every opportunity to knock him.

People are reading that completely the wrong way. He didn’t say it before the game, he said it afterward, and it was absolutely the truth. People are saying his job is to motivate the players. Well, he put out a side without all three of our center backs, at Stanford Bridge, and came from behind not once but twice to get a point from a full strength Chelsea side minus one player in Essien. Is that not motivating the players??

To come from two down the week before to salvage a point and then do what we did at Chelsea this past weekend. This is just another pointless moan, but is just far too common these days.

Jamie - treat every story that you read in the Echo, the same way that you would treat a story in the News of the World:— " probably not true / an out right lie". The paper is a rag of the highest order and blatantly favours the RS. Even better, stop reading it and, that way, the lies it prints won't wind you up.

Jamie - A little lesson in how the press works.

Reporter: "So, when did you stop beating your wife?"

Subject: "I’ve never beat my wife"

Reporter: "So, you’ve not beat her this year then ?"

Subject: "No"

Reporter: "What about next year?"

Subject: "Is this relevant?"

Headline - "Exclusive! ****** admits he has not beaten his wife this year but gives no guarentees he won’t do it next year!!!"

The only thing accurate in The Liverpool Echo is the date...

Ask Joe Royle; if memory serves me correctly, he disliked the Echo so much for talking crap he banned them from the training ground and they launched a campaign to get him out — which to all intents and purposes worked.

Some people on this site are so petty. Moyes is honest and realistic to know the chances of us beating Chelsea are very slim, so do you expect him to lie?

No one is saying Moyes is not honest, Ian, I would be surprised if there is a more honest manager in the Premier League, but the fact is there are just some things you DO NOT say in top football... and the "with the players we’ve got out there" remark was just as bad.

Maybe he just had a bad weekend... maybe, but his comments this time were not well thought through. It is the kind of comment a conference league manager would make, after getting a good draw against United in the FA Cup, not the manager of a team that finished fifth in the league last year.

I kind of agree with Paul Henshaw and Moyes’s comments "with the players we have out there".

This also pisses me off no end but then if I was one of the players, it would have me thinking "Fuck you, you ginger Scottish cunt, I'm gonna prove you wrong and show you my non-ginger hairy arse."

Although maybe Moyes knows this...

Whatever he said or didn’t, it was probably taken out of context. The fact is he started the match against the strongest side (in every sense) in the Premier League with two strikers. Non-availability of just about everyone else may have forced him into doing this but what the hell, we deserved a point and it must surely be a real morale booster for the club.

I am all for him being honest — would that the rest of Premier League managers were like him in that regard — but I think perhaps he could do with assistance when it comes to dealing with the press, most of whom are only out to elicit bad news... which of course is good news if you want to sell newspapers!

No, why would realism and honesty annoy me?

He didn't say to the players "we have no chance". It makes no difference anyway.

Is Tony Cheek an anagram of Tony Marsh? Oh, no, it isn’t is it. Only asking! Apologies if it is a real Tony Cheek out there.

Over quite a few years now I hear Mourinho, Ferguson, Wenger, Redknapp et al dance around valid questions and think to myself "Classless, charmless git".

I’ve very often heard the red Spannish Tosser reply to questions with nonsense and blatent outright misleading lies and every time thought to myself "Classless twat" and thanked the lucky stars that Moyes always comes out concise and to the point in response and seems to retain class and dignity.

Whatever other reservations I may or may not have with DM, that’s something I’ve always admired so I wouldn’t let a little comment like Saturdays’s spoil years worth of gracious, true and real response.

You can’t buy class and dignity and it always shows, as we continue to see with the soon to be broken up ’Top 4’, Spurs and City.

I think there is a difference between giving up and being realistic. Chelsea is, points wise, the best team in the league. We, on the other hand, haven’t been playing well. This season we have been a mid-table team and we shouldn’t go in to an away game with Chelsea expecting to win.

That said, I agree, to an extent, with this:

"This shit boils my blood. The ONE person at the club that should believe in a team (and perhaps believe unrealisitically) that they can defeat anyone, in any circumstance is the Manager."

Had Moyes said he was expecting to lose before the game that would be far worse than saying so afterwords. The manager’s job is to make his players believe that they have a chance, whether they actually do or not. I thought we were going to lose to Chelsea. I think everyone did and there’s not harm in that unless the players stop believing that they can win.

Fuck all this "realism" shit. That’s saying we haven’t got quality players/no money/injuries etc etc... It's boring.

Pat – Why shouldn’t we go to Chelsea and expect to win?! It’s up to the manager to inspire players, outwit the opposition and employ his tactics to win a game. That’s what he’s paid for FFS!

For too long now,our expectations have dropped. Surely our motto must mean something.
