Billy's performances

Comments (12)

I was just wanted the opinion of Bily's performances so far.

I think he has shown he is a great footballer, with brilliant assists in the beginning of his play, and some of his goals too. But I don't think he's played greatly recently, BUT that in my opinion is down to adapting to the Prem and the mental aspect of his game. He seems scared to take on players, and do what wingers are supposed to do.

I think next season, he will be a fantastic talent!!

For £9 Million I can’t say I'm that impressed. If only we had the other Russian... the one we wanted and Wenger got. I may have mis-read the hype but wasn’t he touted as a pacey winger, by our wonderful Mr Kenwright?

Speaking of Kenwright, I see West Ham are about to be purchased. "Watch This Space"

As the Russian Prem Lge started in March and runs through to Nov, effectively Bily has played a full season by now (ie he had no summer break like all EPL players). So, maybe fatigue is a factor? Personally I think he is a very good player and it would be a shame to judge him too harshly in his first season adjusting to EPL especially given the number of games he has had to play.

For me its a C+. I believe he will become a good squad player for Everton, who will chip in 8-10 goals a season when up to speed, he seems to save his best performances for the weaker teams in the EPL so have him to score against Birmingham Sunday!! My only worry is that he is a little lightweight and lacks genuine pace, something if your being played as a winger comes in handy. I would play him behind the front two but in fornt of the midfield, in a similar role to Arshavin — we may see the best of him then!

Moyes said he wants to bring in players that improve the 1st team, preferably young with a good sell-on value. I think he ticks those boxes. You can see the guy has ability and is good enough for the 1st team already and with time to settle in and adapt as well as build confidence, he should improve a lot.

Looking at the money average Prem players go for now I don't think £9m is a lot of money for a 24/25-year-old Russian international who was captain of his previous club side.

Although I don’t like to judge a player too much until they have at least played a full season, my opinion of Bily so far is that he is good on the ball and uses it well, with good control and skill. His passing and crossing are very good and his technique and shooting are also quite good. He has shown good composure and finishing (except in the derby).

However, he is not the quickest although not slow. He doesn’t attempt to beat a man as much as I would like but then again neither does Beckham. At times he has been very quite or gone missing in games.

Overall 7/10 for me.

He looks exhausted. I think he is a quality player but he could use some time off.

I reckon he’s had flashes of brilliance and next season will come as good as Pienaar has.

People expecting him to be a ’pacey winger’ doesn’t help his cause..

He is a very good player. Intelligent and skillfull... and he will blossom once he gets over his stagefright..

...and what is it with people using ’tiredness’ as an excuse... He’s scared at the minute... we’ve just played chelsea and liverpool in very fast games — and these were his real introduction to the Premier League.

Rumour alert: according to the Star in Ireland, Moyes wants McGeady of Celtic — a direct clash with Bily.

I agree with many of the comments that he looks a bit jaded having played effectively a full season. In allfairness he would have been eased into the team a bit more if Osman & Pienaar hadn’t got injured but needs must.

I think that like a number of our players he has got good technique and we’ll probably see the best of him next year once he’s adjusted to the pace of the league with a full pre-season behind him.

I’m not normally one to cast negative thoughts on our players... in fact I am one of the believers in Fellaini, and also believe that Osman & Hibbert are both useful players in our squad, but this has to be one of the first players for a while I believe is a complete waste of money.

We know he lacks pace, which is not hes fault but surely in a league such as the PL pace on the wings is a must, I see the reference to Beckham above but Beckham has exceptional passing ability to make up for it.

Many have mentioned that he has great skill and crossing ability, I think this was apparent in the first game or two but I have seen many more wayward crossing and passing recently, I also don’t think he controls the ball particularly well.

I would love to be proved wrong but I just don’t see what this guy brings to the squad, other than breaking up a great partnership in Baines & Pienaar.

I kind f feel sorry for this guy. After arriving from a foreign league which has just finished,he looks totally fucked to me.
And people should realise, this fella is NOT a winger. He’s more of an attacking midfielder who’s left footed.....The Russian Kilbane? (joking!)
Give him until next year to judge

He’s a good player who hasn’t worked out how to be effective in the premiership yet. He’s definitely NOT a winger, in fact, he’s on record as having said so, which was quite fortuitous timing given the thread that appeared on this site at the time about wide midfielders/wingers.

I remember how bad Pires was in his first season, in fact Ciaran’s words ’he looks scared’ would have been the perfect description. He was absolutely woeful, it was almost funny, yet he was the player of the season within a couple of years. Some players take a lot of time, I think Bily shows the signs of being one of these players. In the meantime, we need a big enough squad to ’protect’ him by leaving him out at the right times.
