Aiden McGeady

Comments (23)

My father rang me to say he heard on RTE Radio (State broadcaster in Ireland) that Everton have lodged a £6 million bid for Irish international McGeady. Can't find any other reference on the web to it except this: http://www.eleven-a-side.com/acrossthewater/news.asp?n=37764

Ah joy of joys.., the transfer window approacheth, and the frequency of bogus transfer links increases accordingly. For a club with no money. 'twill be a small miracle...

From working in Scotland last three years he sounds like a right ponce bigging it up about Glasgow like the big "I am".

Yet another tenuous link, although I’d gladly welcome him. He’d be a very useful addition to our squad.

Aiden McGeady isn’t the sort of player Everton need right now. He’s a smaller, but quicker, version of James McFadden. He’s got the skills to make him stand out in the SPL (but not consistently week-in, week-out) and that’s where he should stay. He’d struggle against EPL defenders... all IMHO of course.

McGeady was the 2nd coming!! All we heard about in Ireland was the young lad at Celtic this, and young lad at Celtic that!!

Brilliant as he was at underage it has not transformed to the senior levels. I think £6 mil is too much but one thing about him is that he would fight. Keep going to the end etc etc. Honest but, right now, I’d rather ship out Jo and get someone else in there. Although letting in a lot of goals, our defense by season end will be very solid, especially with Jags back to marshal stuff and Johnny Heitinga improving all the time.

I would bypass McGeady just now...

Excuse my language but I fucking hate the transfer season with a passion these days. Oh how I loved it in bygone days. Loans, loans and more fucking loans if we’re lucky. Thank you, Sir Bill.

Just another McFadden to me; can't do it every week. Leave him were he is, he hasn’t done much for Ireland either.

£6M eh, I can just imagine the enticing package Blue Bill is putting together for this one. No doubt it will be £1M down with regular payments and will only reach £6M when we win the League and Cup double.
How could Celtic possibly refuse.

Not the type of player we need either.

McGeady doesn’t tick our "fast winger" box that we need filled, but if we were to rub out that box and replace it with a "ridiculously fast winger" box he would tick that.

Celtic create chance through him, without him they do nothing, I’d definitely have him at Everton.

Nothing to worry about, lads, we won’t be signing anyone during the window — at least not any transfer fees. And let’s face facts, my grandma would excel in Scotland.

McGeady has improved immensely over the last two years... however, I’d still like us to aim higher than that.

But then again... That’s hardly likely.

Certainly better than Stephen Hunt I suppose...

Ho ho ho. It’s the transfer window again. I wonder is there any more Man United ’goodwill’ we will be getting.

McFadden was better and if he couldn't make it in our style of play, Mcgeady won't.

£6 mill would be better spent elsewhere.

That is of course if you ignore that we don't have £6 mill to start with!!

Actualy the rumoured bid was said to be €6M, not £6M. Still don’t think we have that kind of cash but as much as we’d all like to dream of EFC bidding for top quality stars, the reality is that in January it’s loan deals or gambles on lower level prospects. Personally I’d welcome McGeady to the club. He may not be world class but is a genuine winger who could sorely fill a huge gap in our options.

Yeah I saw it on the back of the "Irish" rags too. It didn’t mention a bid, not that you’d believe it. Some very harsh comments on McGeady. He’s got unbelievable natural dribbling skills although his stature can let him down a bit but he works his arse off off the ball too. At £6M and 23 years of age I think it’d be a good buy but I don’t believe a word of it.

I’ve only seen him about 6 or 7 times on the telly but thought he looked disappointingly poor. He maybe ok in the SPL but in the CL against ’The Arse’ looked bloody awful! If we had £6 mil’ for a wide player, I’m sure we could do better than him.

Just put ’Everton’ into Google news and you’ll be amazed what comes up. According to reports in Argentina, we bid for Fernando Gago from Real Madrid the other day.

I used to enjoy all this silliness but now I just find it depressing, the player’s either not good enough (McGeady), I’ve not heard of them (Holtby) or, effectively, they’re ’too good’ and won’t come (Gago).

Sign Manny and Bentley and we’re sorted... (sorry, couldn’t resist!)

McGeady is a great player, well better than McFadden.

McFadden had no pace, McGeady's got it in abundance and one thing Everton need is pace.

We haven't got one single player in the whole squad who has got pace.

Might be true. Loan with a view to a permanent deal in the Summer?Could be an outgoing deal to finance it I suspect.....

Personally, I’m more concerned with getting a central defender or two in on loan. Senderos?

The last thing I want is to waste our limited resources on bringing in another centre back, all we ever buy is fucking defence/midfield utility players, between Jagielka, Yobo, Distin, Heitinga, Neill and then Duffy and Mustafi, with Hibbert having done okay there as well, I’ll be livid.

I agree. Spare us another central defender (or two!). Our defense would look a lot better if we could hold other teams up in midfield. I want either a creative midfielder or an effective defensive midfielder. Surely, one of the reasons we are conceding so many goals is because we keep giving up the midfield and defending too deep. No amount of excellent central defenders is going to stop goals when we spend at least 30 minutes of each game right outside our box. I also think an effective supply system from the midfield will make our forwards (aside from the already excellent Saha) look a lot better. Yakuba cannot be expected to bring the ball into the box: he wants it put in there for him.

Ray you cannot put a bid on her. Simply put she is priceless.
