Pienaar

Comments (7)

Anyone know what's happening happening with Everton tying down Pienaar to a long contract?

We got him for a bargain and, since he's come back into the team from injury, we have seen a massive improvement. He ran the game for us against Birmingham. I think he would do even better if he played in the middle like he does for South Africa.

But I'd would hate him to leave the club, I'm not completely sure but I think his contract is nearly up.

His contract is not nearly up; it has over 18 months to run. June 2011.

So exactly what's all the fuss and bother? Seems it stems from the rumour that Everton wanted to offer him improved terms with a contract extension, and that was not taken up, causing widespread panic amongst the tabloids, who played up the angle on 'disgruntled player looking for a move...'

Everton have until December of 2010 to sort something out according to his contract (to avoid a Bosman)... but then we know exactly what players' contracts are worth (see "Lescott") — especially if we fail to climb the table and the lad goes on to have a stormer in the World Cup.

On a more immediate note, I’d like to know where he went at half time yesterday? Brilliant in the first half, largely inconspicuous in the second.

Ray, he appeared a couple of times in the 2nd half — to sky a couple into the Gwladys St from promising positions.

He will be gone after the World Cup. The club will cash in on him, Cahill and anyone else who has a good one. After this season, we might need to with no European football, relegation looming and no money coming in and no chance of buying anyone else unti the last week in September when the TV money comes through.

Along with his new contract, perhaps someone could buy him a banjo and a cow’s arse. It would be a starting point for him.

Ray, sitting in my Main Stand seat as always, Pienaar was playing unfit, his knee is obviously playing up, he caught it 20 minutes into the first half and never really recovered. Conicidence our passing flow stopped then?

He and Baines are both playing with knee straps on, but I think Stevie's is pretty bad, he's quite fragile at the best of times but he limps around after almost any contact.

I think he’s going to be out again soon and he will need to get this fixed before the World Cup.

I personally don't think he will be at Goodison next season, he will be off to Spain or somewhere warmer.

I thought Birmingham was his worst game since he came back from injury and we certainly missed his influence.
