4th place — Liverpool please

Comments (31)

I’ve been thinking long and hard today mostly on the Aston Villa vs Liverpool game on what would be best for Everton. Its fair to say we lost our chance to crack the Top 4 after our lousy first half to the season and this could then leave open the possibility of either Spurs, Villa, or Man City breaking into the lucrative Top 4 places probably at the expense of Liverpool. But do we really want that to happen?

Whatever we fanciful might think, Liverpool are a top brand name worldwide and, even if they failed to reach the Top 4 place and hence the lucrative cash of Champions League, some rich Arab or Far East guy will come along and rescue them from the under-performing Yanks at some time in the future and give them the cash required to push on again.

Do we then want either of the other three to get on that ladder of cash riches, particularly Villa (as the poorest of the three) and we would be then be faced with another club to overhaul in our attempt to get to the CL. You might argue that City or Spurs have the cash to do it, but again I suspect that their respective owners will panic once again if they don’t do it this season – particularly City's new owners following their treatment of Mark Hughes. Both will suddenly change managers and players again and I think long term they will never have the solid foundation to crack the pot.

To summarise, if we can't crack the Top 4 then I don’t want anyone else to and I hope that Liverpool win tonight (God forbid me sating that, but!!) and go on to claim 4th place. Now I never thought I’d state that but can anyone else come up with another viewpoint? I’m open to offers.

As I finish writing this, Torres has just scored and Liverpool have won. God, I hate them... but thanks again.

Ditto. Can’t believe those fuckers got that late goal against the run of play. I was sure Villa would nick it.

I would rather we had been relegated the season we came 4th than see them finishing below us yet winning the CL. We would have recovered from relegation in time, but that 5th European Cup can’t be undone. And yes, part of being an Evertonian for me is hating that club, before anyone lectures me on the matter.

The denial of a CL place would seriously put them in the shit and force their hands into considering a joint stadium. On the plus side it could also lose them key players giving us a much more even playing field against them and wipe that smug devil’s own smile off their faces. No for me, let them slip down the table and see who is bitter then.

I stand by those great Evertonians, the Two Old Ladies of Kemlyn Road... "the sooner they’re back in the Second Division — where they belong — the better!"

Totally agree with you Gavin, and would love it if they were to take a huge fall. I supported Everton when the Shite were in the old 2nd Division - school was great fun on a Monday and, believe it or not, every Shite supporter (all +10,000 of them) spoke with a Scouse accent!

With every year passing since then I have hated everything they stand for. Derby matches with last minute disallowed goals, in cup and league, derby match with biased refereeing — you name it and somehow that horrible, horrible, arrogant shower of bastards come away with the decisions and results.

I wish not a Newcastle United on them, but a Leeds United tenfold.

Have you taken something Mike?

If that shower were not to finish in the top 4 it would partially make up for our own disappointing season (so far). Hopefully it would start (continue?) a downward spiral and they would "do a Leeds" as Gerry says.

The only thing is, they might get rid of their classless manager, and we don’t want that to happen now ,do we?

...and even then I bet you the jam-strangling RS twats would get some Premier League money loan to help them out or some freakin rule bent to avoid them being relegated!!!!

I need to get a red straw doll and start sticking pins in it.

No! I sincerely hope that Liverpool fail to finish in the top four. In fact, I’d be more than happy to see Man City, Spurs or Aston Villa take 3rd and 4th this season or next.

For years now, the richer clubs have been getting richer - particularly the ’Big 4.’ I think it’s no coincidence that we *have* a ’Big 4’ and also 4 champions league spots. I would hope that should any team break the monopoly held by Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal that the entire league can become more competitive again and allow us to compete with the very best once again.

If we can’t crack the Top 4, I wouldn’t want Liverpool to do it as well. I would rather Man City, Aston Villa and Spurs finish 4th, 5th and 6th (in no particular order) with Liverpool finishing in 7th and below. Doing a Leeds United on Liverpool would be icing on the cake.

Mike, it doesn’t matter if the "other three get on the ladder of cash riches" because we are on a different planet to them financially anyway. I cannot think of one team in the Premier League that we can compete with financially, which makes our recent achievements even more remarkable.

If we were depending on a Liverpool win for a place in the Champions League i’d still want the bastards to get beat.

I don't give a toss about any other team than Everton but I get almost as much pleasure out of that shower losing as us winning! Clive Thomas, David Fairclough and Joey fuckin' Jones started it and I would support a team of Waffen SS and the Taliban against the horrible twats! I hope they don't even make the Europa.

I would never, ever, ever wish those feckers to win, the only occassion would be if the result would mean we won something.

Hate them and as per a t-shirt I saw on holdiday once, "I support two teams, Everton and the team playing against Liverpool".

I hope they falter even more and end up in the bottom half of the table, the only down side is that they will have to get rid of the useless fat waiter and they may get someone decent in.

I can’t believe anyyone of a Blue persuasion would want that shower to win any game or competition. Personallly, when asked, as I sometimes am, I simply say I wouldn’t even want to see them win a game of tiddlywinks.

A 4th place finish for them would get them the Chumpions League spot but it would mean the Yanks remaining in charge (no investment, can't compete realistically with Chelsea, United, City).

They lost £42 million last financial year, should be well over £50 million this year. If they don't get in the Chumpions League, they could be heading for a £100 million loss and the Yanks would have to sell. They could get an owner willing to splash come cash so I'd be careful of what some of you wish for!

I sincerely hope they do. Because in finishing 4th, they will retain the services of one Fat Spanish Waiter and continue to be mediocre/borderline crap for the forseeable.

Heaven forbid they get someone who knows what he’s doing in charge of the shite, they might actually win something and we can’t be having that.

For every time they have beaten us with a late goal, or with some outside influence, C Thomas, Clattenberg etc.
For selling their souls to the devil, or whatever they did, because never has a team had so much luck for so many years.
For fucking Heysel... TWATS! (Wanted to say something else there bet you can guess...)
For all the misguided people who don't really follow football but want them to win cos it's for the city, it's in the name really.
For a million other reasons that I could go on about but would take me till 2011.
No, not them, not ever, anyone but them.

Gerry Quinn, Like you, I remember them in the old second division. But with their luck, they will never be in that position, the devil looks after his own.

Just after half-time Reina decides his boots need changing, so what happens? The referee signals to the bench, and the new boots are fetched from the dressing room area, with the Villa crowd singing "What's going on" or words similar! The result: 4 extra minutes, just enough time for them to get the winner.

I am just wondering if anything will be said to the red side, as why he did not change them at HT? But I won't expect any answer.

Also, those who watched the game on Sky will know how Alan Parry & Andy Gray wished for the boys in red to succeed, and just gave biased views all the match.

If Liverpool don’t qualify they’ll have a rich Arab take over and become great again anyway, but if they do, the other teams will suffer under the change that comes with a new regime?

I think the post is flawed. All ifs and buts and hopes.

Liverpool can go fuck themselves. If another or two of the other teams qualify it opens competition again and that will be healthy for us. And Liverpool will be screwed financially and that brand you talk about will dissapear as what Asian fans follow crap teams?

I completely disagree, Mike. We need other clubs to get in amongst the Sky 4 & break up their cosy cartel. Once it becomes apparent that there are perhaps 6 or 8 clubs with a realistic chance of finishing in the top 4 positions, then those 4 clubs have to start adjusting their budgets accordingly, or take the risk that next season’s CL money may not materialise. Anything that increases the competitive nature of the Premier League is good for football & good for Everton.

I can see your train of thought Mike, but I can’t agree.

If Villa get in there it may only be for one season. If Man City get in there it would be a victory for money over everything else and if Spurs got in there they would probably capitalise on it financially.

So if it can’t be Everton, it has to be Villa.

If you want a return to a friendly deby you need those smnug reds taken down a peg or two to realise what football is really about. So it’s got to be a good thing if they miss out on the CL for the next 5 years and see the world from a whole new financially restricted, worldwide hangers on reduced, fat arrogant Spanish manager free perspective. We can hope anyway...

You have to be joking — support the shite ? Everyone here has the same opinion, let them wither and die in debt.

A slightly different point regarding the biased referees — at Anfield last season in the derby both teams came out and then the shite played YNWA over the tannoy — and we all had to wait, including the Everton team, for it to finish before the kick off! Where else does this happen, and where else does the referees allow it to happen?
We should all bare our arses next time they do it.
