Glory Day

Comments (16)

Saturday the second of January 2010, Everton FC plays against Carlisle (FA Cup). It will be a glory day for me and my family, specially for my kid. Because I will be there with my family.

As some of you probably know me from Toffeeweb, I'm Portuguese, 40 years old. Been supporting the blues for more then 25 years. I've been already at Goodison, not in many cases, and in London to watch Everton FC. But my son who is also a blue fan never went to Goodison Park. So it will be special for him, and of course me. Take that he will be 10 years old on that day, so it will be magic I suppose for a kid that everyday hears his father talking Everton FC.

I will be there with my wife and two kids. I chose the Family Enclose. Is this nice as I don't remember anymore the distribution of the seats?

Does anyone know Jimmy Burns? Avid Evertonian that for many years always sent the Echo to my home in Portugal. He used to run the marathon and his origins I think are Irish. It's been a long time since I've heard from him and meanwhile I lost is contact. It would be awsome if anyone knows him and talked about me. He must be around 50 years old by now, and I would love to chat again with him.

Vasco, have a great day - it will be very cold so dress for winter. The family enclosure is right next to the pitch - should be great seats. For a very old tradition, go into the Church Hall (St Luke’s) in the corner of the ground for a pre-match cup of tea.

Great post, Vasco, I am sure your son will be overjoyed at the old girl Goodison Park, let’s hope it’s a great day for you all and a stonking display from the mighty blues.

You should also tell him Eusebio played and was a superstar there in the World Cup many years ago.

Hope you and the family enjoy the game Vasco. Could you please call on Moutinho before leaving Portugal and ask him if he would like to join you?!

Obrigado!

Best of Luck Vasco.

I took my mum of 68 to the Burnley game for only her second game...The cold and the lights add to the sense of the event I believe and I hope the crowd are very vocal..

Vasco,

how much do you know about Sporting Lisbon? Are they anywhere near as strong as Benfica? What are our chances you think?

You will have a great time Vasco. I cant wait to do the same for my 18 year old. Living in New York you dont a chance to go to Goodison much. I did get to Wembley last year for the semis but have only been to Goodison a few times in the past 30 odd years since I moved to NY.

Funny feeling about this match. Kind of similar to when we took on Tranmere a few years ago.

Brilliant, Vasco. I was 10 years old when I first visited in 1982. We beat Luton 5 - 0 and John Bailey scored from the half-way line. Your son will never forget this day.

Why don’t you try out the stadium tour. 20 quid for the whole family is a bargain. Tours are run Mon, Wed and Fri,11am and 1pm. Now that would be a day (couple) to remember.

Out of curiosity, how did you come to be chosen to support Everton?

Thanks for all your support. I think indeed will be a great day for my son and daughter. It will be for me also.

Regarding Sporting Lisbon, they are nowhee near Benfica. But they are buying strong this January. I hope that a fit Everton squad can beat them easily.

Regarding being a blue fan it’s a consequence of 1984 great team that won the Cup Winners Cup. After so many years of watching football around the globe, that team is one of the best ever I watched. I still remember all the players... Glory of all days that one day will be back.

Vasco,
I am a good friend of Jimmy Burns and I am happy to say that he is alive and well and still spreading the good word around the world. I have lived in many places, including Central America, and I too received my Pink Echo every week from Jimmy. The internet makes those days seem quaint now. If you send me your e-mail to panzaverde4@hotmail.com I will be happy to send it along to Jimmy

Our Jimmy

Vasco, I’ve told Jimmy of your Toffeeweb letter. He’s made up and hopes to catch up with you on Saturday. If you haven’t heard from him yet it will be internet problems. I think he’s better with the Pink Echo than Cyber Technology!

As Gerry also pointed out, Jimmy kept him informed through the Pink of Everton’s progress. There were many others Jimmy did this for. Jimmy’s one of the thousands of unsung heroes of Everton who remain the true fabric of this great club. Well done our Jim!

Vasco, I hope you and your family have a great day out.

I have never been in the family enclosure but my nephew goes there and he tells me the kids gather round the dug-outs before the game, during the warm up, to get players’ autographs etc.
