Rumour: Moyes gone?

Comments (35)

Heard an interesting one today from an ex-colleague in Glasgow who is convinced that Moyes is ready to walk. I'll refrain from saying "I have it on good authority" as he's never come to me with info like this before, and in any case I don't usually listen. However, he was convinced.

He stated that Moyes has given the board his "A List" of transfer targets, which has been completely overlooked for people on the C and D list! (wouldn't suprise me). Apparently, it's the final straw for Moyes and the only thing keeping him is the lack of current good vacancies elsewhere.

I'm not one for getting overly excited about rumours that lack any real substance; however, I wondered if TW readers could add any substance, and indeed if anyone has heard similar??

Also, my source had a point when he said "that's you boys in the Championship then!". I'm not saying Moyes is the be-all and end-all, but Kenwright, for me, is fucking criminal. Even moreso if Moyes walks.

Interested to know what readers think the impact would be if this is true??

Who cares if Moyes goes? Not me that is for sure, no more 10 men behind the ball, then hoof — get after that you bastard.

It sounds a load of nonesense to me Alec, if only for the reason that Moyes knows exactly what the financial situation is and has been saying publicly for weeks that there will only be loan signings. A, B and C list transfer targets don’t even register in that scenario.

I tend to agree with your contact though, if and when Moyes does walk, and I think he may in the summer if, once again he’s given no money, then I think we could be looking at freefall. Reason? Well, no-one anywhere near his calibre will look at us if they know there is no cash, so the only salvation I would see would be an up and coming Owen Coyle type or, dare I say it, a Moyes seven years ago type.

I was actually a bit sick when Coyle went to Bolton as his team plays good football, if a bit naive away from home and he seems to fire them with the same kind of spirit that has helped us overachieve in recent years. If Moyes were to leave, he’d have been on my shortlist along with Alan Irvine (now gone to Sheff Wed) with possibly Pip getting more involved in coaching.

I’ll agree with Howard, this has been aired on other threads, but who is going to go to that has money to spend? Certainly not Celtic & Rangers... even the Sky 4 aren’t spending and when you look at their squads, Man U need defenders and a couple of world class midfielders, the Arse need two forwards, even Chelsea aren’t buying... and the RS — don’t go there!

Moyes has more sense than to throw his toys out the pram. Everton and Moyes suit each other well. Moyes is free to do as he pleases here with little pressure or threat of losing his job. I don't think he would want to end up like Hughes at Man City.

Alec, There is only one person on Merseyside who has it on good authority, viz. Richard Kirkby Dodd

Until he tells us, it ain’t pukka.

Don’t forget, Phil, this is Daffy Dodd that rang and rang the club and ordered them to make a public statement and they they did... yeah right.

I wanted to put this in another post as Doddy has claimed he has the ears of the club and as Jay Harris has hinted at the club is for sale but at an exorbitant price. So Doddy, can you give your mates a call and answer this:

If Everton really are for sale, is it:

a. - for between £50m and £100m
b. - for between £100m and £150m
c. - for more than £150m

Just a simple call and post the letter Richard, please.

I have it on good authority that Arteta invited Iniesta and Xavi over for a curry in my mate’s brother’s cousin’s resteraunt and said they were so impressed with the free 7-Up and the Rogan Josh that they are going to sign for Everton next week.

I’m not a contract lawyer, but I would guess that, if Moyes walks away, he forgoes, somebody knows these numbers better than I do, something like £3m a year for the next three years or so.

What was the reason he would do this? Because he would have to make do with players bought on a shoestring budget or on loan, willing to sign up to a tight wage policy? What happened in the last few weeks to make him change the habit of a lifetime?

I slag Moyes off and have done since big Dunc's last game! But as much as I think he's crap, I would hate to see him go right now. I want to see how good we are with a settled defence and Arteta and Jags back in the team, then I would decide if he should go or stay. I think he deserves to at least be able to play his best team for a number of games and then we can see if there good enough.

I do think he will fuck it up by not playing the right players at the right time, but I would love him to prove me wrong and be the man we all want and hoped he was.

What isn't in question is his integrity, and for that I thank him. Just wish he was as good as the hype; we'll see.

Alec, I have to agree with Howard and Keith.

Moyes was waxing lyrical today about Arteta and Anichebe joining in training being "Like six new signings"

Dont know about his maths but doesn't sound like he’s going anywhere.

That is amusing but complete shite. Was'nt really worth reading... or posting? I think your Glaswegian friend is so bored of being snowed in that he is making stuff up to keep himself entertained.

I've got deluded friends in London that think Arsenal are going to win tommorow. I would suggest they are as equally deluded as your Glaswegian friend.

I would seriously doubt Moyes is just about to walk but what I do agree with in this article is Kenwright is fucking criminal, he’s like a cancer in our club.

And an uncureable one at that.

Why on earth do people bother posting things like this on a web site? Alec, your life must be completely devoid of anything noteworthy if you have to come on here and spout completely unfounded bollocks.

No doubt you’ll have gotten the ’Moyes Outers’ moist with this turd. I’d suggest you get out more but that would be to the detriment the the rest of us.

Absolute rubbish.

There are no better jobs available at the moment. He has players coming back from injury so no, I can’t take this seriously.

I do beleive, however we will see a different Moyes to what we have seen over the last twelve months. Those players coming back is not like having new signings, it is what it is. A great relief to have players coming back who we all know will improve the team ten-fold. Moyes can feel this relief now that he is watching them train again and I can’t wait until they are back.

On a seperate note, what’s the bet we’re still last on MOTD tonight!!!

Utter tosh....Funny how these stories always surface during the transfer months...

I’m going to put my head above the parrapet and make a call on today’s game. 1-0 to the Blues. The Arsenal never play well in adverse weather.

Up the blues.

Wasn’t going to post but I cannot help it. Am I the only Everton fan who views toffeeweb and actually likes Moyes. I think he has been brilliant for the club and has turned us around. People talk about hoofball what do they want some Brazil type goal every game with 20 passes. I too have high standards for Everton but considering the financial situation Moyes has been brilliant. Everton got left behind by the top clubs a long time ago and I think were doing an admirable job of catching up. Would you rather have some criminal like harry redknapp or a sap like phil brown. Theres been a lot more highs than lows with Moyes and I’m sure that there will be more to come. You speak to other fans and they are amazed when they hear Moyes gets stick. I agree. There I’ve said it.....

Alec.

Why all the bollocks? Why don’t you just say EFC are shite, followed by Moyes is much too good for you and is on his way out. What a WUM.

Your comments are all bollocks. Basically if Moyes wants out he will go, vacanies or no vacancies, the guy is a millionaire already and has more pride that most men. Bollocks numbers 2 is that Moyes is fully aware that we cannot afford “A” list players, it’s been that way for years!

Why don’t pop on the LFC and MUFC sites and tell them how rich they really are and then give them a list of the grade “A” players they will be buying from Spain!!!

Andrew, you’re not the only Moyes fan by any stretch of the imagination. It’s just that on Toffeeweb - and, to be fair, pretty much every other part of our lives - malcontents tend to make much more noise than people who are generally satisfied with the status quo.

Im still pro-Moyes. Weve been poor this season and the football has mainly been boring but I think with our crippling injury list DM should be given the benefit of the doubt, and thankfully, we have seen an up-turn in results and performances of late.

@ RICHARD OSBOURNE and MIKE GWYER... (and I genuiney want you to answer these questions, they aren’t rhetorical)

- Do you struggle with reading?
- Or, is it just attention to detail, mainly?

I am more than willing to go through it with you again, slowly, if that helps? No-one else struggled to grasp it!

My questions were...

- "can anyone add substance to this?"
- and "what would the result be if he left?"

In fact, I actually commented that I don’t usually listen to bollock like this!

Oh, and Richard, it’s a shame you have to get personal on a website mate, not very classy. But if we’re going to talk about "having a life", I would like to note the time you posted your response... on a Friday night! "09/01/2010 at 02:07:16"

I think you could be right. I mean it’s just like the Met office in September said we were in for one of the mildest winters on record after the "bbq summer" they also predicted. (nothing to do with the agw scam of course).

Whether we on here love Moyes or hate him we are all agreed on one thing.

99% of the time the guy’s honest.

Anyway must go burgers could be burning on the bbq.

I wish this were true and Moyes would fuck off and take his negative brand of hoofball with him. This stuff is never true though and it gets boring every transfer window when someone spouts crap like this.

The reason it’s crap is because Moyes knows like the rest of us that Everton are skint. Moyes won’t have even submitted a list of targets to the board. Moyes also doesn’t work on an A list, B list, C list. He’s not that organised, he likes to dither and dither over his transfer targets until someone else signs them.

Moyes will never walk away from one of the highest paid and safest jobs in football where he only has to guarantee mediocrity and the majority of fans will be happy.

Alan, there are an awful lot of Premier League clubs that wish they were as "mediocre" as us.

If we sorted the board out I do believe we could make the top 4 with Moyes.

Andrew,

In the real world, you’re like the majority of Everton fans: you recognise that DM has taken a team on its way into the Championship and, with very little financial support, qualified for Europe on a regular basis and taken the team to an FA Cup final.

Toffeeweb mirrors YouTube and most other User-Generated Content websites, in that the people who comment the most are those who love a good whinge. The more rational types - those who recognise what has actually been achieved in the last 6 years - get on with supporting the club.

Have to agree totally with Paul Foster. People with a gripe look for somewhere to make the gripe public, whereas those who tend to see things in a more, dare I say, balanced way, don’t feel the need to vent their spleen.

When you look at where we were, and how we were, and compare it to where we are now (the first half of this season not withstanding) with the funds we have available, what’s been acheived is little short of miraculous.

Yes we’d all love more, but money talks! and we don’t have much!

Moyes has been at Everton for nearly 8 years and in those 8 years I've lost count of the amount of times a fan has said he swears it's true that Moyes is gonna leave. And guess what? After nearly 8 years and countless rumours, he is still here.

I think if Moyes left, we would fall to pieces. Don't get me wrong, I hate his tactics and style of play and any Mickey Mouse manager could come in and do a better job in that department. But he has made this club rock solid, created a fantastic team spirit, got rid of the deadwood, bought quality, turned us into a top 6 side instead of a relegation one. And in that department, I don't think there is any other manager out there who could do a better job.

If Moyes did walk, though, you couldn't blame Kenwright. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the guy and I hate his bullshit but you can't blame him for not spending money that he hasn't got or for not selling to any Tom, Dick and Harry, cos just look at what happened to Pompey and Leeds...

We can't complain.
