Fellaini... Jesus Christ Himself!

Comments (24)

Wow, I'm starstruck shocked and in utter delight at the performance of one man yesterday, his name is Fellaini!!

Here is a man who came to our great club a season and a half ago (I can remember seeing him on Sky Sports News, with scarf above his big afro head and me thinking to myself what have we bought for 15 million big ones?) big tall slow and awkward, but to be fair his first season produced 10 goals but his overall displays were shocking therefore splitting our fanbase right slap bang down the middle. I have to say I was in the "I don't rate Felliani" camp, slating him everytime he made a mistake.

Moyes first tried the big fella in the holding role, he was rubbish, giving away silly fouls in dangerous places, getting out jumped in the air not tracking midfield runners and getting booked left right and center. He just couldn't cope there so was moved up the park. My feelings at the time were that Moyes felt he had made a mistake in siging this kid, but had to play him somewhere to justify that he had paid 15 million big ones!!

Fast forward the new Felliani, he was simply outstanding yesterday, in fact he has been outstanding the last 7 to 8 games now. The thing that got me with his performance agaist City was his running power composure on the ball and his attitude and dare I say his silky skills!! For me, he looks twice as fast these days, no longer does he jump into silly tackles, his reading of the game was excellent he was one or two steps ahead of everyone else on the pitch, like he had some kind of crystal ball.

I hold my hands up to you, Fella — you've proved me and I guess a hell of a lot Evertonians wrong and long may it continue. His display was worthy of Jesus Christ himself... Only problem is if he continues in this form surely the big cats will come calling? COYB

Congratulations today, boys, you were simply magnificent all over the park, I hope Lescot was watching. My MotM would have to go to the Big Fella, he was simply sublime, I would've been one of his fiercest critics after past performances and, to be honest, I was of the opinion that he was a total waste of money... but I'm glad to be proven so very wrong, his distribution was outstanding, showed calmness under pressure & outshone all of the so-called City superstars.

Congratulations Big Fella & keep up the good work & continue to make me look like a fuck'n eejit!

I wouldn't say I am Fellaini's biggest fan, but I have always thought he had potential; however, his performance in the DM role against City yesterday had me waxing lyrical about the lad's performance to anyone who would listen last night.

Quite simply, I believe that is the most complete performance by an Everton player for years. Let's hope he can play at that level for the rest of the campaign, and more importantly, keep him at the club for many years to come. He's set a new level of performance now and, if he can keep it up, we'll have some player on our books.

I have backed this guy from the beginning and wanted to say a few things but knew I would lose all of what little credibility I had and would be laughed off the site. I have predicted that he could be the new Ballack but now I'm thinking he could be closer to Zidane — and not just because of his Zidane turn.

Sometimes he’s reminded me of him, like I think it was against Sunderland when he caught the ball on his chest from by the corner flag turned quickly with the ball still in the air and put in a fantastic cross. His general play at times has made me think maybe... but surely not; I'm getting carried away! Remembr Ronaldo was a bit of a joke in his first season and now look at him.

Personally, I’ve been a fan since he arrived, but your description of the difference between his early games with us and now is spot on.

For a couple of months now Marouane has been in a class by himself. The only other player in the league who is comparable is Essien... and he is frequently injured and doesn’t play in the air like Fellaini. You might say that Essien is a better shooter but, when MF gets ahold of one, his shot must be as ’heavy’ as anyone else’s and he can thump it with both feet.

One thing that sticks out about Screech is the way that he makes contact with the ball. It’s kind of hard to explain but his legs seem to operate as giant levers that swing from the hip, not the knee. I’m not sure how, but this seems to somehow make him favorite for every close challenge on the ground. He doesn’t so much "pass" the ball as "sling" it from side to side with wonderful precision.
The most unique player in the game. And, sadly, set for a "Lescott Summer"...

Ian, Sean,bloody hell lads....calm down!!

He has come on a hell of a lot but you are just being silly now.

The lad was shocking for a year and has now played 7 or 8 really good games, and yesterday's was more than good, it was a top, top performance.

To start comparing him to one of the greatest players the game has ever seen though, and even against Essien, a seasoned pro and one of the best midfielders in europe... you’re just getting daft now.

If he can get anywhere near the level of Vieira in his pomp on a regular basis that should be the aim. To start comparing him to Zidane though, seriously... behave yourself!!

Neil, that is the kind of response I am talking about. As I said after Ronaldo’s first season, I doubt any would have predicted him to become the best player in the world, out shining and out scoring Rooney and scoring 40 goals in a season.

Young players are inconsistent and Fellaini is no different but from time to time they show glimpses of what they will eventually be capable of when in their prime and that performance against Man City is a hint of what he will be doing on a regular basis week-in, week-out... but add another 20 to 50% to that.

Nearly everything I have thought about Fellaini has come true and I don't see why he can't develop into something of a cross between Ballack and Zidane in style.

Righgt now, Fellaini is amazing, arguably the best on the pitch for us the past month. One question still remains, though; can he stay this effective week-in, week-out for an entire season?

As Ian said, young players can be inconsistent. Hopefully he keeps this up and develops into one of the best in the Premier League.

Ian, you are off your rocker pal. The lad has played 7 good games, finally, after 12 months and ’everything I have thought has come true’. You are talking as if he has just won world player of the year or something! He is looking much much better, I fully agree, but writing things like ’he could be as good as Zidane’... I just hope no opposition fans are reading this page because it is quite frankly embarrassing talk.

When he was shite he was great in some people's view. Now he’s playing really well he is the best there has ever been. I don't know what it is with the need to completely overrate this fella at all times.

What he has done so far is worth about 1/20th of what Mikel Arteta did for Everton last year. Seemingly his size propels him to a different stratosphere though!!

Seriously man, get a grip. He was crap against Carlisle.

I have always found Fellaini slow and frustrating yet he always had a great touch (on chest out the air).

Got to agree with Tony Bell, One of the most complete performances I have seen from a player in a long time

There is only Chelsea to fear in this league, United and the Shite are terrible, This with our best and arguably 2nd best players out injured. Top 4 has passed us this year... but not next.

Neil, When was he shite, cause I think you will find the whole team was shite, have you got a thing about him or what is it! That performance wasn't ok, it wasn't great, it was awesome!

I've slagged Moyes off on here many times and I hope like yesterday he proves me wrong, but one thing me and Davey can agree on, is the best midfielder in that position plays for Everton. Fellaini, Awesome just awesome, so don't belittle him with "when he was shite", cos I don't remember that, are you talking about this season? If so, don't know why, he's been brilliant!

So you must be talking about last season, when he played out of position and scored 10 goals, for a young lad in his first season in the Prem, yes your right that is shite.

Get a grip, we've got a superstar! Instead of downing people's opinion of him, worry about Blue Bill cashing in, that's the real worry!

PUT. IT. DOWN.

Zinedine Zidane is not fit to clean our boys boots!

Fellaini - Dean - Finney - Pele / Maradonna - Best - Kruyff - Eusiebio - Moore / Beckanbauer - Hibbert - Osman -.......

I really don’t get the anti-Fellaini drivel which still exists on this board.

This guy came to us aged 21 with a £€15m price tag, couldn’t speak a word of English, was played out of position, took ages to adjust to the pace of English football and we all thought Moyes was a madman signing him.

But over the past 8 games we have begun to see what he is all about and yesterday he gave us the best performance by a midfield player that I’ve seen in the past 25 years. Majestic and imperious, a Goodison legend in the making.

Neil, I thought Fellaini was our best player against Carlisle, but most players were poor on the day and as I said young players are inconsistent. Let's not forget Rooney's performance against Shrewsbury though... ay, it happens.

There is good reason why Fellaini was shite but I don't think he was as bad as most people made out, especially when everyone else was shite, but he seemed to be the scape goat because of his price tag. It’s just my opinion.

As for Arteta, I'm not sure if I've seen Arteta dominate that many games as much as Fellaini dominated Man City, plus Arteta tends to only do it against teams below the top 7 as well as being right in his prime. I think when Fellaini is 27, my comments won't sound so ridiculous... but, as I say, just an opinion.

Erm.....

2008-2009

Arteta - P 26 Scored 6

Fellaini - P 30 Scored 8

Now. Not only did he score more than that lazy bastard Arteta but he played nearly twice as many games!

Not twice as many — just more — pissed. What I want to know, and this is far more important, is; where’s Mikel Arteta now? When we need him? Still on fucking holiday?!?

It's a disgrace.

Him and Jags of sunning themselves on Caribean Come Dine With Me.....!

Jesus.

Did they take Tony Marsh with them?

Haven't had a postcard so far....?

Great performance. So that is two towering performances in a row. If he does that pretty consistently two seasons in a row, he’s a great Everton player. Comparisons to Zidane, apart from being a tad swift (two good performances and against an Arsenal without Fabregas) actually don’t reveal much about what it is that is unique about Felli. This is exactly the same as people dismissing Fellaini to quickly.

Mr Green, you are a prize buffoon, Arteta was at the game on Saturday and before he picked up his injury was the highest rated midfield player in the PL. He would walk into any team in the PL and apart from possibly Barcelona any team in the CL.

"Lazy bastard", what games were you watching last season, if he and Jagielka had played at Wembley, the Final would not have been such a foregone conclusion?

I witnessed Marouane Fellaini's less than satisfactory displays earlier in the season when he appeared to be having no impact at all on matches.

I have read the reports of Fellaini's good displays in the last two games but unfortunately have only been able to catch the games on Match of the Day, where he only appeared to touch the ball about three times. Obviously because of their editing.

So to all you people who were there, can you tell me what he has been doing so well?

Stuart, I have watched Man City a couple of times this season and I watched their last game against Blackburn who they destroyed easily with Blackburn only having 1 chance but scoring from it. It was quite frightening to say the least.

When we played City, for the first 10-15 mins City knocked the ball about in a similar way they did to Blackburn but the players and in particular Fellaini closed down everything and wouldn't give them a yard. Eventually we won the physical and mental battle and began to take control to the point we dominated Man City with ease. The likes of Barry and De Jong, who were so intimidating at Blackburn, were canceled out of the game.

Fellaini won every thing.... EVERYTHING. In the air, on the ground, not giving away his usual petty fouls. He completely controlled the midfield to the point that I can't remeber Barry and De Jong getting a kick. He was like a colosus deffensively and offensively and in every way. I hope that answers your question.

The lad is class but he is no Zidane, that's just silly.
