We would run through brick walls for him...

We've heard what the fans think about David Moyes and, as we all know from a quick perusal of the TW pages, what a difference of opinion there is! But I don't recall such a completely forthright statement from a player about his manager until this one from Tim Cahill in this article from the Daily Post.

Not only a ringing endorsement of his manager, but a huge compliment to the much maligned chairman. If this is what one of our best players and erstwhile captain thinks, who are we to argue?

We are average joe’s that, unlike Timmy, do not get their pay check from BK and DM and therefore are able to look slightly more neutral at their achievements ;-)

Just shows how much Cahill loves this club. He’s such a great guy.

On the other hand, Erik, the players dont get a very big paycheck from Kenwright. I think the lads just like playing here for whatever reason.

Say what you want about David Moyes but with him at the helm we win a lot more than our finances should allow. Is he the best in the world? No, there are plenty better managers out there. But, credit where credit is due, we don’t have a lot of money but we still manage to win with Moyes.

That’s why he is our Goodison God :)
That is the only right thing to say about manager such as Davey!! Bad results in the past were very rarely his fault. He is one of the best managers in the world right now and probably the best one for a club such as Everton. It was brilliant display by players against City but it was Moyes’s tactics that completely killed them off!!! Just give Davey injury-free squad and he’ll fire them up!!!

I’m lucky enough to have got to know Tim - all I would add is that his passion and commitment to Everton should never be underestimated. If only we had 10 more like him...

No Shaun, I wouldn’t slag off my employers. But nor would I announce, unprompted, that I’d run through brick walls for them.

(If you’re reading, boss, I would really ...)

Tony... Question - ’Who are we to argue?’

Answer - We pay both Bill's and Tim's wages.

Also without putting people under pressure (in any walk of life), the best for the person A and person B (C, D etc) is pressure in order to get the best out of them.

If you don't slacking occurs and a comfort zone appears, and im sure
we been/seen this situation before.

All we want is the best for EFC, hopefully Bill will stay as Chairman and all these clubs taken over (who are in serious shit with debt) will go under and the tides will turn. I really do think Bill and David are looking at the long-term business plan (as any business should) rather than the short term i.e Citeh, Chelsea.

ps: I heard that Gerrard had Kuyt round the throat after the Stoke game. Source Mike Marsh via McManaman.

Great to see the luck running dry and the unrest over the park.

I would argue with anyone who talks up the hapless Kenwright, and thats coming from someone who loves Cahill, though I have no problem with his endorsement of our manager.

OK, the last word on BK, whatever he is or isn’t, we don’t PAY his wages because he doesn’t take a salary from the club, and that’s a FACT.

I am overjoyed at the improvements on the park... but I just hope that our results don't take the emphasis away from strengthening our tiny squad.

I have the uneasy feeling that we only make positive moves in the transfer window when the fan site really puts pressure on the club... when a side with ambition is winning games it usually signs players to improve the team.

Although it is great news that our long term injured seem to be recovering... it does not guarantee them being as good as they were before the injuries. We still have a very inexperienced bench and even though we beat City comprehensively at the weekend, we are still stretched really thin.

All the top teams in the Premier League have strong squad players with experience sitting on the bench to supplement the players and fill in for injury, suspensions etc. If we have players going through a loss of form (which can happen to anyone lets face it!!), we have no one to push them and provide competition for their place.
I hope that the club don't let our current form put all talk of team strengthening on a back burner.
I am hungry for real success not just safety and forty points.

Come on folk, is Cahill really likely to have the same set of issues or relationship with the Chairman that we the fans do?

Our perspective is that he is a (if not THE) custodian of our football club with the responsibility of taking the club forward, building a new stadium and ensuring adequate funds for squad building. Thus, he is positioned on a spectrum between either a failing lieing shitehouse ('against' camp) or a saint and a true blue ('for' camp), dependent upon how people feel he is doing.

Cahill’s relationship is, I would suggest (not being privy to what goes on behind the scenes) a more inter-personal relationship with a very different set of concerns and needs. If he feels he is treated well and gets on with Kenwright then he will say nice things. Bit harsh to criticise him for not echoing some fans' sentiments.

Charlie Percival — "Answer - We pay both Bill's and Tim's wages."

Unless I’m mistaken, Kenwright takes no wage whatsoever from the club... one of the very few.

And as far as Tim's wages are concerned I’d offer an educated guess that the great majority is ultimately paid by Sky... if you’ve got Sky then that’s your choice (and you’re part of the problem with modern football and modern footballers) but please don’t start with that ’we pay his wages’ rubbish.

Ultimately we all pay each others wages, unless you’re a top banker that is.

Roy Mcleod... so Everton can exist with no fans....ok then.

We can buy good players (or any players) without the investment from fans.

I guarantee you the Sky money is a needle in a haystick in terms of the money Everton receive through their fans.

Maybe I'm mistaken....

This ’wages’ situation? If it all comes down to cash, Bill pays Tim’s wages. As Bill’s customers, we can think and say (more or less) what we like, but our only power is the negative type — not to pay.

The use of that word ’investment’ crops up again. Investing in EFC would consist in buying shares, not tickets, with the possible exception of ’investing in Everton’s future’ in a more abstract way by buying a season ticket for your son or daughter.

Why the hell was Cahill playing so shit then early on in the season? Up until the last few games, he absoloutely was not running through brick walls for his manager.

Think you’re mistaken Charlie. The Sky TV money is a much bigger proportion of the club’s turnover than gate receipts and merchandise are. That’s why they call the tune.

I have a difference of opinion with you, Alan, on Cahill. I think he's a guy who lays it all out there week-in, week out; it's just part of his DNA.

His work rate gives us the extra support to the main striker, but at the same time performing defensive duties not only up top, but across the middle of the park as well. It's valid for you or anyone else to take a pop at his lack of form and production in some games, but his workrate, to me, is consistently high, he never hides and his bravery , unquestioned. That's what I see anyway.

Trevor - "All the top teams in the Premier League have strong squad players with experience sitting on the bench to supplement the players and fill in for injury, suspensions etc.." — Bollocks!!!

Chelsea’s bench on Saturday included Borini, Sturridge & Matic (who are these?), Arsenal’s had Merida, Emmanuel-Thomas & Coquelin (who again?). But they’ve got players in Africa and injuries you might say. So have we!

10 missing on Saturday, an average of that all season. Add that to Saturday’s squad and you’re leaving out 6 players who would be considered first team squad players — eg, my 6 would be Hibbert, Yobo, Rodwell, Gosling, Anichebe, Jo (if given that option right now that is).

Whether you like it or not, whether you think there should be plans in place in case, what we need is a bit of good luck with injuries. They’re not solely to blame for what’s gone wrong this season, and they are part and parcel of the game, we like any other team could cope with 3, 4 even 7 or 8 for periods. I don’t think any team would be brilliant with 13 players unavailable (as against Benfica).

Adding players to the squad costs money that we quite simply don’t have, and I would rather have a long term future for this football club than paying extra players just in case we have 5 ACL tears at the same time.

Charlie, Sky money is substantial, don’t know the exact figure but I would guess at least £25m. Whilst I understand your argument, it’s likely that money makes up one quarter to one third, if not more of our turnover, so I think you’re wrong on that.

Alan Clarke, he wasn’t playing so shit early in the season. He was playing out of position and with injury because we had no choice.

He did a good job from what I saw and it's impossible for a player to play at his peak for eternity. Wake up and realise these players are humans and not machines.

Sorry, Peter, but I disagree, he was not injured. Every out-of-form player seems to have an injury to blame. If you’re injured you don’t play. Early on in this season Cahill was out of form and was playing in a team that Moyes openly criticised for not working hard enough and not playing up to their own high standards.

Cahill is one of my favourite players. When he’s firing on all cylinders, he’s a nightmare for the opposition. That’s why I found his early-season form so disappointing. He wasn’t running through brick walls then. There were a a lot of others on these pages who would agree with me.

Our Sky money from Last season will have been between £40-50 mill... about two thirds of our income.

As for Cahill... class game on Sunday — but anyone who says he always gives his all clearly hasn’t been watching this season. Fair enough, he’s been played out of position in centre midfield and right wing... but, even when he’s played in his favoured position, he’s been very inconsistent, and in some matches he looked disinterested.

Great character and a credit to the club — but there’s no room for sentimentality in this game. He is fast becoming the weakest link. And it gives me no pleasure to make that analysis.

Personally, I think our best option to move forward — is to spend big on a clever, pacey and skilfull right winger and let Bily take the Cahill role...
