Yes We Can

Comments (23)

With today being the anniversary of Obama's inauguration, do you think our American contingent can help instil a 'Yes We Can' attitude to our squad and performance?

Mickey Dee one question:
how are Dave, Dozy, Beaky and Tich these days?

Your quote reminds me of the Legend of Xanadu.

Got a couple of songs should Donovan sign up full time:

"Maybe it’s because I’m a Landoner
That I love Donovan"

or what about a bit of Clash:

"Landon’s burning (he’s Donovan)
Landon’s burning (dial 99999)"

...I’ll get me coat.

Given that Obama has made no material change whatsoever, "no they can’t" is surely the answer to the original question.

Obama has celebrated his anniversary by his political party the Democrats losing its safest seat in the senate which Teddy Kennedy held since the 60’s and with immense criticism for the US efforts in Haiti which are a mess... so let's hope Donovan & Howard are Republicans!

The USA connection fits in very well with what Moyes wants from players. Motivation and commitment seem to come as standard. Its interesting that American sportsmen are referred to as athletes (including golfers apparently, but I’ll ignore that for the moment). In Britain only sprinting wingers might be considered such.

Howard and Donovan have levels of skill way beyond the basic, and the mixture is very potent. If Landon needs to know more about the game and how its played, he’s come to the right place.

So, to get back to the post, a "Yes We Can" attitude backed up by the hard work can do our club a power of good.

Another Moyes tick box — he’s anglophonic. The guy speaks English (sort of) just like The Yak and Joe, Timmy and Steven and Seamus. Mikel probably speaks better English than most of us. They might all wonder what the North Manc captain is saying from time to time, but he’ll learn. (As The Big Fella has and Bily is).

The Yanks are coming. If they’re good enough, let ’em come.

Keith, agreed. what was comical earlier was watching Carra lead the ’huddle’ before the kick off earlier. He’s giving a team talk, which I presume was in his squeaky English, to 10 overseas players only a handful of which I would expect could understand a word he was saying.

Pity the bastards spawned a win though.

Mickey, it just seems so obvious to me. This doesn’t exclude anyone with talent, but I’ll bet its much further down, for example, Big Sam’s list of priorities than Davey Moyes’s. Just being able to work with the boss, coaches and squad-mates through the week has to have an effect on your team play.

And where do you live away from the training ground? In some sort of luxury no doubt, but who do you talk to? How do you get what you want to eat? Fluent English might just help a lot.

To be fair, I think Phil Neville and Tim Cahill are more influential with that winning mentality you mention, but TH and Donny seem pretty head-strong too.

Was trying to think of something witty to link Everton’s injury crisis, and Obama’s healthcare legislation crisis, but it's too early in the morning!!!

Stephen Kenny, You’re spot on there. Apparently after watching a recent episode of ’Bob the Builder’, Moyes was so impressed with their ’yes we can’ attitude, we’re signing Scoop, Muck & Dizzy on a pre-contract agreement. He wanted Pillchard the Cat aswell but Kenwright couldn’t afford his wages!

James Elworthy - When you say...

"...and with immense criticism for the US efforts in Haiti which are a mess", you’re not by any chance referring to the fat hollow bluster of insane hate-mongers are you?

Let me tell you where most of that ’immense criticism’ came from.

People (nb: Rebublicans!) like fat, venal, hate-filled shitbag Rush Limbaugh and cracked ’Christian’ loon, Pat Roberston - a man who believes the reason for the earthquake in Haiti was punishment for a pact the Haitians made with the Devil in the 19th century (the ACTUAL devil!)

These are people who think Dinosaurs were ’invented’ and the world is only about 7,000 years old.

They are people who, incredibly, use religion as an excuse to hate others (particularly others who’s skin is a different shade to their own).

They are in short, fucking nuts!

Obama MIGHT prove to be an ineffective president, but these people ARE drooling nasty fucking arseholes.

(ffs, even George W backed Obama’s efforts in Haiti)

Luckily, they don’t go unchallenged.

I suggest you watch the following.

We already have at least three Americans on the books. If we sign anymore we ought to change our name from Toffees to Hershey Bars.

Not sure what this is all about, but I’m happy to have the American’s who currently ply their trade for our club. Their attitude and work ethic fits in well regardless of any "Yes we can" buzz phrase.

The comments about Bob the builder made me smile and, whilst I prefer to stick to football on this site, I do think it’s too early to judge Obama. Look at the shit sandwich he inherited!

Nice link Eugene. I am an avid fan of The Daily Show and although I had not seen the link you posted, I have seen enough clips on TDS of idiot narrow minded bigots calling themselves Republicans to know that I am willing to give Obama a bit more of his 4 year term before I write him off.

As for the American Toffees, I’m happy to have em here. Yeeeeha!

COYB!
