Jô has Gone!

6 month loan deal with Galatasaray!

I assume we sent him back to Many City after his problems with us. No great loss as I am sure everyone will agree, he was useless!

You have to think Moyes has another striker lined up, otherwise we are going to very short of options. Maybe Beckford will come in early.

This is good news, in my opinion, as it should free up wages for another, more useful, striker.

Who I don't know but the other option I would like to explore is the extension of Donovan's loan deal until the end of our season a la Beckham at Milan. The wages saved on Jo could fund this, I would hope!

We still have plenty of striking options.

Saha, Yakubu, Cahill, Vaughan (Anichebe returning )

Five strikers for one position.

What a disappointment. I was one of those who thought it wasn’t a bad loan signing, that he could possibly add a bit of flair to our attack up front. But he disappointed to no end. Good riddance, and thank God we choose the loan option these days instead of splashing out close to £20 million for a player like that. Try it before you buy it, it’s a great policy in any business.

A striker seems to be top of our list right now. Louis is past it, and Yakubu seems a million miles from where he used to be. I really hope Moyes can address this, but without any money, it seems he can do very little...

Simon, Saha is always a moment away from another injury, Yakubu is still far from fully fit having just returned from a long term injury. The same goes for Vaughan and Anichebe is not even back yet.

I think we will not see the best of Yakubu, Vaughan and Anichebe till next season.

Cahill offers good support to the strikers, but he himself is not a out and out striker.

I think and I hope that Moyes is doing this (freeing up wages) so he can offer Louis and Pienaar improved terms. (The terms they requested & deserve i.e Parity with Arteta.)

Weren't Man City paying Jo’s wages as part of the Lescott deal? So no wages freed up. I wouldn't mind us snapping up Boyd from Rangers who’s on less than £20k a week and the transfer fee would be low as he is out of contract in the summer.

Lost Jo... does it really matter? Not particularly, I would prefer to see Vaughan, Agard and Anichebe given a chance than him; however, our strike force certainly need strengthening.

Those three offer no guarantee, and to be honest I would be surprised if any make it beyond 10 goals a season. Will become good Blackburn strikers in the future, but we are aspiring to higher levels surely.

Saha is good for 60-70 minutes, no more than that, and he is one bad tackle from the pensions office.

Yakubu will hopefully return from the African Nations much sharper. This is one time we should be pleased about them. It has given a chance for him to play 90 minutes in 4-5 games, something we couldn’t really offer. However his injury was a bad one, and he may never be what he was.

I don't see Beckford being anything other than a squad filler. Most of his goals have came when he is given acres of space to run into, that will not happen in the Premier League.

We need someone for next season, that's for sure.

On Jo, I expect him to have a good spell in Turkey.

Jo, like Lucas Neill, cost us sod all and did us some good. best of luck to both of them. They have worn the Royal Blue Jersey with pride - we could all produce a list of those who should be deleted permanently from the archive.

People better informed than me have said that Moneybag City was paying Jo’s wages, so no saving there if this is true.

I’m sure that EFC are doing their sums to ensure that Pienaar et al aren’t lost because of the weekly tens of thousands. Saha, however, should be grateful that he has been cotton-woolled back to the main stage. He’s one tackle away from the end of his career.

In theory isn't any player one tackle away from the end of their career?

And Neill was on quite high wages, and we must have been paying a percent of Jo’s. Anyway, the fee we got for Neill plus his wages should pave the way for better terms for Pienaar & Saha.

Colin Ryan, having watched Boydinho plenty of times at Ibrox, I’d have to disagree, very lazy, wants the ball on a plate and goes missing in big matches. The SPL is that bad even Kenny Sick Note looks decent back at Rangers, remember him at Derby? Not many do.

The fee we got from Neill was paid to Atletico Madrid as an installment on Johnny Heitinga's transfer fee. Jo’s wages were paid for by City. Neill’s wages, approx £40k per week could pick up a couple of Bosmans... that's all.

Some of Jo’s wages were paid for by City, not all. Everton were paying Jo the same as the other top earners at the club. Jo’s overall salary at City is much higher. City paid the difference so money is saved.

Where’s Tony Marsh on this one? He was on here not so long ago saying how highly he rated Jo. He must be gutted. I couldn’t be happier, Jo was up there with Mikel Madar, Scott Spencer and Brett Angel in terms of how shit he was.

Not too bothered about losing Jo. He was pretty poor, and didn’t score as many goals as he should have done considering how much City paid for him. I’m glad we only had him on loan because we won’t lose any money on him.
I’m sure Donovan can also play up front until Vic returns from injury. I’m more concerned about losing Saha.

"In theory isnt any player one tackle away from the end of their career?"

In theory this is the case. In practice, I recall Pele being booted out of a game at Goodison Park, but went on to pick up a few accolades after that.

Louis Saha, however, has spent very long periods of his football career as ’unavailable’. Sprints in training can put him in the treatment room. He is a wonderful player, and we are very happy to have him, but he is damaged goods. If he leaves us for the highest bidder I could only wish the both of them no luck at all.

And Charlie, you seem to know much more than I do about who gets paid what at EFC. Where do you get this information from? I would like to be well informed myself.

Jo has been disappointing. He started off well but faded away. This season he scored against weak teams such as Hull’s second 11 and the AEK Athens side who were a joke at Goodison.

Good riddance as he wasn’t up to the Prem yet. He might come back and be awesome but at this point he wasn’t good enough.

I’m surprised at the contempt expressed by some against Jo. He didn’t cut the mustard here. but he loved wearing the Royal Blue Jersey, always played with a smile on his face, and always said nice things about our club. I for one wish him well in Turkey, he leaves at least one or two decent memories in my mind.

Mickey, I don’t think anyone on here has anything personal against Jo. It’s just that he played shite football week-in and week-out. Loyalty is good but when a player is that bad, it outweighs loyalty and they need to go. Hopefully this gives Vaughan, Anichebe and Agard the opportunity to gain some much needed experience.

My my, more classics to add to the TW archive.

Dan Brierley seems to think Saha is past it. Come again? 13 goals from 17 starts. Participation in 72% of Everton games this season. Yes, he’s a little more susceptible to a niggle than others, but don’t let his previous cloud your judgement of his current.

James Elsworthy is obviously one of the accounts team at Everton eh? Care to tell us all what Hibbert’s goal bonus is? I mean FFS, if you knew that information, you’d be locked into a confidentiality agreement, not plastering it all over TW.

Jo’s wages were reportedly picked up by City - there’s nobody who can confirm this so it’s what we’ve gotta go with. It is my belief that Everton came to this arrangement with City when they bought Lescott. Therefore, it would make sense that if the loan terminates, there would be compensation financially. Anybody wonder why it has taken so long for Jo to be sent packing? Not like he’s played for us this year is it? Anybody putting 2 and 2 together and thinking that there have been some discussions between Everton & City as to a financial settlement for Jo to go somewhere else? To explain clearly, if City WERE paying his wages (if!) and they were 50k per week, it would cost them around a million to leave him with us. If Galatasary are now paying those wages (it would be expected), they save said million. If we got him for nothing as part of the Lescott deal, we’d be due some other form of financial compensation, e.g. the aforementioned million.

I’m sure it’s not that simple, but the fact it’s taken so long makes me think something akin to the above has happened.

Where is all this goodwill coming from for Jo? Despite him being utterly shite and as bad as has ever ever ever been seen in an Everton Jersey he didn’t even work hard, tackle, break sweat etc etc. On top of that, he was here to rebuild his reputation and confidence but then fucks off to Brazil.

Good riddance to one of the most laughable players to ever play for us. Played with a smile on his face? I’m not surprised — he was probably wondering how the fuck he was getting away with it.

Gareth, Jo looked a class act for Corinthians, in Moscow and for Brazil. He didn’t get a chance at Man City or at Everton. If we’d paid the same for him as we did for Fellaini, DM would have given him a proper run and he’d have come good. For Arsenal, he’d be a star.

Andy Crooks.

"Jo looked a class act for Corinthians" — How do you know this? What footage of Corinthians have you seen, a keen follower are you?

I do follow Brazilian football, and I have spent much time in Brazil, primerily Sao Paulo.

The team I follow there is Palmeiras, their arch rivals are Corinthians. I support Palmeiras becasue they are the Original team (from the Italian district) of Sao Paulo and Corinthians grew out of them, so a similar history to that of Everton.

I have many friends who are Corinthians fans. When Everton signed Jo last year they all said he was shit for them. They also said he was shit for Brazil, then they all laughed and said ’Jo is a shit’.
