Welcome Senderos

Comments (20)

News just in that we have "agreed" to sign Senderos on loan until seasons end. I am happy, may not be the best player, but has 33 caps to his name for his country, and he has played for the Gunners and Milan, good enough for me. I don't care if he doesn't live up to expectations, he's only on loan. Welcome to Goodison Philippe, good luck!

Agreed Ryan - welcome Phillippe. Difficult to think of a nickname and surprised that the other signing of the Hungarian goalkeeper didn’t have headlines of keeping clean sheets: "Mucha do about nothing!"

Phillipe 'Ponderous'... Moyes can't seriously be thinking of bringing that slow-witted lump to Goodison... can he?

Isn’t there a limit to how many loaners you can have in a season ?

For some reason the name Anthony Gardener sprang to mind when i heard this news. At least he’ll be a bit of company for Carlo Nash for 4 months.

Well he certainly can't be worse than Distin on today's showing.

Priceless Jay! Took a lot to make me smile about anything on the day we sign Senderos and lose at home to Birmingham but you did it thanks!

Is anyone else completely indifferent to this? He is really just cover for Heitinga and Jags when he gets back. If anything, I’m disappointed that we’re helping Arsenal by developing one of their younger players. I would like to see a signing or two that will really help us in the Prem and give us a shot at the Europa League.

Pat, as long as he is just a splinter-catcher I don’t mind (besides the wges wasted — he is shite), have to say we would not be developing an Arsenal player for them as they have been trying to get shut of Lurch for over a season; loaned out to Milan, but no one wants him.

To those who criticise the signing of Senderos, I have two questions:

1. Is there anyone else available for no cost who is an international centre half with lots of Premier League experience?

2. Can he possible be any worse that Distin who, in my opinion, has to be one of the worst CBs to play for us in my memory — I have never seen a CB miss-direct or simply just miss headers — for God’s sake, he made James McFadden look half decent today!

Jags still not fit... so I say good signing, given the financial constraints we are working within.

1. - No cost? How about wages? Oh and by the way he actually hasn’t played in the EPL since 2006/7 he spent last season out on loan, Arsene rates him so highly he brought back a 35 year old Sol Campbell

2. - Can’t argue on the Distin display, he was shite

As a Gardner type signing, used if any other centre halves get injured/suspended but I also rate Duffy as the right choice over an Arsenal reject

Gavin,

Whoever we got in was surely going to want some wages! 'No cost' was referring to 'no fee' which surely you understood. He is also a straight replacement for Neill so I don't understand your point re wages.

With regard to my comments regarding PL experience, are you suggesting he hasn’t any? Last year, he played in the Italian League for one of their top sides — he has plenty of experience.

And regarding Distin, my opinion of him wasn’t based solely on yesterday’s display — it is based on what I have seen of him since he signed... ie, it's not that he ’was’ shite, it is that he IS shite. Personally I would play Senderos ahead of Distin whilst Jags is getting fit and as soon as he is fit Senderos would become another ’Gardner’ as you say.

I also agree Duffy could be given a go, particularly as the liklehood is that there will be little to play for in the league for the remainder of the season - we will probably finish between 8th and 10th...

Sorry to say Distin has past it. There are players that degrade gracefully with age, and some that suddenly go off. Distin is in the latter. Slow reactions, ball/opponent watching, clumsy. Simply passing a ball requires a lot of effort and the whole body needs to compensate, him leaning back almost falling as he completes the pass. The body doesn’t lie.

For all the people who have criticized Senderos, at least give him a chance. He hasn’t even played a second for us. As for Distin, he was utter shite.

Ryan, totally agree. He HAS been a good CB in the PL and he is still relatively young. You don't play a number of games for Arsenal if you are no good. Yes, I agree he has gone off the rails a bit over the past few years... and yes, I agree that ideally we would not be looking at a player like him.

But ideally Jagielka wouldn't be injured, Lescott wouldn't have left, Distin wouldn't be shit and we wouldn't be skint. As such, I think it's a reasonable signing and, as Ryan says, let's at least give him a chance.

He’s shite. If he was any good Arsenal wouldn’t let him go, would they......?!?!?!?

Him and Yobo - fuck me. It’ll be like an episode of Fawlty Towers.
