So Phillipe starts instead of Distin. Hopefully he'll prove us all wrong over the next few months!!

Didn’t half miss the crack though — hope it’s not too serious a problem!

A weird afternoon without TW, having to resort to watching to Sky with Geoff and the muppets.

He’s a top draw player, he’s a top drawer player. (Guess who says everything twice...)

We just about enough to win tonight, a bit like we did against Sunderland on Wednesday. Seems like we’re not getting out of 2nd gear (I suppose we haven’t had to), but its critical that we sharpen up for February...

Did anyone else notice how slow Senderos was this afternoon!! On that show, and I know it's very early in his stay with us, I don't think he’s worth signing.

Never been a Senderos fan but I think he needs to be given a chance and he did OK today. Much bigger tests lie ahead...

I actually thought Senderos was solid at the back with Heitinga. Showed composure on the ball (were you watching Yobo?) and was able to pass both short and long (accurately).

You can have all the pace but if your positional sense or timing of the tackle is off, it’s useless.

Look at Terry at Chelsea, I mean not the quickest (on the uptake) but gets his tackle in — ask Bridge at Man City, or, ahem, Chelsea’s reserve Goalkeeper?

I think we just took 3 points away — ok, some might say only Wigan.

I’m not sure which thread I should be in.

If I can get TW back to some sort of normality.

They threw the Dogs of War at us.

We just about weathered it.

The Moyes plan for corners did it again.

Answers please.

I thought it was a decent performance, all things considered.

What I did like was the fact that we pushed like mad for the winner. That to me was what the top sides do — grind out a win and make sure of the points.

The dream is still on, though: we're 10 points off fourth spot with a game in hand, and we still have to play them! I know it's bollocks, but what an achievement if we actually did it.

Oh well... back to my colouring in with me crayons.

For me it was a routine — lovely Everton routine from the past seasons... I am missing them.

I didn't notice Senderos at all and, in my book, that's a perfect start for him.

Fair do’s to Paul Merson, he just proper bigged Everton up on Sky Sports News in front of Pinnochio and said everything that we always say.

I like him now.

Mickey, don’t know what game you watched mate, but it was far from a stroll in the park, Wigan probably deserved something out of the game. Also, they had a stonewall penalty turned down.

Brian — of course they deserved something from the game. They threw everything they had at us. And we weathered it. That makes us better. We’ve got some good lads out there.

Do you think Ball, Harvey and Kendall had to turn up and the opposition laid down and surrendered? Quite the opposite. Our lads knew how to work hard.

Just like today.

I thought he did ok, a clean sheet so you can’t complain. The ref was a joke, missed blatant penalty and disallowed Felli’s goal???

As for Wenger signing Campbell to replace him, that's the same guy who paid £10 mill for Jug-Ears Jeffers. He does not always get it right.

Mickey, they didn’t deserve to win it, but if they had ended up getting a draw out of it, in my opinion they would have deserved it.

The ref stood in front of the Big Fella as he leaped and took the ball down on his chest in a way that the coaching manual could not have envisaged.

He blew up for handball.

And Belgium is supposed to be a small country.

What a scrote.

The referee today was a disgrace. Gary Caldwell should have been sent off in the first two minutes for dragging Cahill back when he was clear through. Felli's goal was onside.

We did not play well but I am happy to come home with the three points. MotD will not show the incident in the first minute, so unless you were there or have Sky Plus Football First you will not see it.

The only annoying thing for me today was Moyes's insistence on getting all the players behind the ball for every corner. Wigan left two forwards up and that is probably why Tim had a free header even though it was a great jump.

Big Vic looked good when he came on, Neville was poor and we rode our luck. Star man was Johnny.

Blatant penalty first half; good goal ruled out second half; possible penalty against second half; actual goal second half. Away from home, good result.

Remember last year's result at the DW/JJB (recall the performance?). Why is anyone complaining? I repeat from previous threads, victory isn’t compulsory in the Premier League. Surely you don’t expect the opposition to never have a chance to score?

Dixie himself would have been proud to score a goal like Cahill’s.
The precise timing, ziz zag run at top speed to lose his markers, the prodigeous leap and perfectly executed powerful header made for just one more of Tim’s great goals.
He was the only player on the pitch or possible the entire league capable of scoring a goal.like that.

There are a handful of modern day players I would rate as being truly great. Each of them has a particular talent that sets them out from the ordinary. Some with lightening speed, others are great dribblers, passers or shooters.
By the same token Cahills extraordinary heading ability and eye for goal sets him apart from the ordinary.
Cahill’s contribution to the team effort lies not only in the heading department. Tim is also a genuine non stop box to box fearless tackler.
Despite all that I expect it will not be long before some on this site are calling for him to be dropped.

Senderos had a decent debut, can’t have been easy given he’s never played alongside Hetinga. Showed good positional sense. Clearly short on match fitness which is understandable, personally I think he’ll be a better option than Distan with a few games under his belt. More worryingly, Neville was badly exposed on two occasions and was completely outpaced allowing the opposition a free run on goal. Yet again we posed very little threat down the right with Neville preferring to sit deep.

The middle of the park was another area of concern with Piennar playing in a wider position thus leaving Osman alongside Fellaini, it worked for a period with Osman playing quite well however, when the opposition began to close us down Osman’s contribution visibly waned and Wigan enjoyed more possession. With the derby next week this surely must be a worry.

Once again we managed to secure a hard earned victory due to the never say die approach of Cahill. I’ve got to say that was one of the finest headed goals I’ve seen for a long time. For me this was possibly the most reassuring episode in the game. Cahill appears to have rediscovered his predatory instincts which is a huge bonus particularly ahead of the derby.
