Bilyaletdinov

Comments (20)

Is anyone else wondering why Diniyar Bilyaletdinov has not featured at all recently?

I felt he would have been a much better option coming from the bench than Anichebe, who looked out of his depth and well short of match fitness. We needed someone that could create or grab us a goal against a Liverpool side sitting back.

I'm wondering if Moyes felt the studs-up battle would have been too much for him, or if there is another problem. He would have certainly provided more in the 2nd half than Osman or Anichebe.

As you say, I’m not sure Bily would have been a great help in the thunder of a derby, at least not yet. Of course he has had a few poor games and a lot of football as the old cliché goes. Anichebe on for a bit of bulk and strength seemed to be the other tactic we had.

I think the heat of a Derby may have been too much for him - but I think there are other reasons. Anichebe was MotM in the derby last year and caused them all sorts of trouble. He’s not fit, but you never know!

Bily is coming off a full season in Russia, with and no break playing here. Hopefully the rest will do him good and he’ll come back fighting fit.

Because the person everybody accuses of being negative (D Moyes) decided he wanted to play with 2 strikers instead of 1, for all the success it managed.

I am sure there was a possibility that Bily may have been used but 1 sub had been taken up bringing on Arteta for Fellaini, Saha clearly needed to be replaced, so to play 2 up front needed Anichebe as well.

I think Bily could have done a decent job and we may see him instead of Pienaar when he’s suspended, but we didn’t have enough subs to change enough.

He is no good, one big transfer mistake, a panic buy to appease easily pleased supporters.

Give him a chance! Have we not said the same thing about Fellaini last season?!

Bily has little moments of genuine class which (Arteta 2008 aside) we have seen all too little of in recent times.

There’s always the possibility that he won’t be able to turn these brief glimpses into consistent performances next season, but I’m excited by the prospect he might be something special, as opposed to a Stephen Hunt-type player who might be more "Premiership ready" and consistent, but will never be a top-4 player.

Bily has come from the Russian League. Jo was a prolific scorer in that league. Apart from Arshavin, very little has come out of Russia in recent years, the national team are not in the World Cup finals.

Pavlunchenko a flop, Shevchenko although Ukranian a flop, that bloke Chelsea signed and loaned to Portsmouth he was a flop (can't remember his name but an ugly looking skinny midfielder).

Abramovich forced Scolari to sign Zhirkov, the so called Russian Ronaldhino... he hasn't exactly the set world alight. Russians have never travelled well

Chris, don’t say things like that! If we’re ever going to improve we can’t just fill our squad with bodies. Ok, Bily might not work out, he might break down tomorrow and never play again, by at least DM is trying to make the squad better than it was before.

Chris, I think you're totally wrong! As some have stated, players need time to settle in, and adapt. You only have to look at Pienaar, Arteta and Fellaini, to name a few that didn't hit the ground running, but look at them now? All in contention to be the best players in the squad. He needs a break, I think you should give him one too!

I’m one for letting a player settle in, I was one of the first to jump to Jag's defence when he was slated on here, and latterly Fellaini, but Bily was not only too much money in my opinion, he was purchased as a winger — he has less pace than most in the EPL. Now if he is not a winger and is meant to play behind the front two, like Arshavin, then play him there... Or does Moyes know something we don’t know??? When Kanchelskis was signed, that was a different story, I remember seeing someone on here compare him to Sheedy... what a fucking laugh that was!!

Dismissing a player who clearly has a lot of natural ability, can score a goal or two and has a great dead ball delivery no good, a mistake and a panic buy when he’s played only a few games whilst exhausted from a full Russian season is crazy. He needs a rest, like Fellaini and others, we wont see the best of him till next season, but I think he’ll prove himself the only player in years worthy of wearing our number 7 shirt.

James Elworthy ..."Russians never travel well". You wouldn’t have said that if you lived in Berlin in 1944! Sorry, couldn’t resist that but on a serious note, Bily is reckoned to be a good ’un by Guus Hiddinck and he’s no mug.

I don't know, Tony... all I know is 20M Russians were killed in WW2 and it was April 1945 before they reached Berlin.

In all honesty, I think Donovan contribution up till now has surpassed Bily’s whole season. Most worrying is he doesn't look hungry. Even when Felli was not playing at his best, he was still putting in the effort.

I don't think his ability is in question, he has a good touch and can pick out a pass. It's more about his atitude at the moment, he seems very lost. I think Moyes is right not to play him, as he has degraded and obviously not confident in his own game at the moment. A big mistake in the derby might have been something far more difficult for him to recover from.

James, the Russians still got to Berlin & we didn’t — even though they weren’t drawn into the war until nearly 2 years after we started it.

Chris, I don’t think playing a striker out wide is really the same as going 4-4-2. Although I’m not arsed about what formation or personnel Moyes deploys so much as the actual performance, which was woeful.
