Fellaini Injury

Comments (26)

On Saturday, when Fellaini got hurt, he went for a scan at Anfield. That scan came back negative. It said on the OS that he would be going for another scan at some point, presumably sometime in the past 2 days which followed the game. But I still haven't heard anything of the supposed follow-up scan. Has anyone heard anything? Am I missing something? And, most importantly, will he be in the line-up for Chelsea?

I feel like Fellaini's most valuable asset in the past few weeks has been his ability to calmly play the ball on the ground. This is exactly what we didn't do when The Big Fella was hurt. If Fellaini isn't in the squad, I'll be worried against Chelsea. I think his presence, or lack thereof, on the field could decide the game.

No return date on physiotroom. Don’t think he’ll be available for a few weeks. Not looking good for the next few games. On a brighter note Pip’s reporting "Blues have no fear" on the O/S.

The only ’positive’ here (and yes I’m really reaching here) is that Neville will probably go into midfield and then Coleman goes to RB (there’s the positive if you couldn’t spot it) ... Unless Hibbert is now fit where then we’re totally screwed.

Neville going into midfield fills me with dread - I bet Chelsea are shitting themselves...

Fellaini has damaged ankle ligaments; you won't see him for at least 2 weeks according to unofficial websites. Why when we start getting players fit again do we get further injuries it seems to happen all the time?

Now heard Coleman will be loaned out once Hibbert is fit on another website, but there are also some rumours saying he will start v Chelsea.

I also believe we want a rental fee for Vaughan who doesn't fit into Moyes plans... does this mean he will get offloaded when Beckford arrives (it he does that is)? At least with Leeds out of the cup and now struggling to hold onto an automatic promotion spot, he will be out of the limelight.

He loves it, don't he, Old Captain Phil! After his shit shout about how we could end our 500-year Anfield wait, he’s now going on about how we have no fear about playing Chelsea! Just say nothing go out and show we have no fear win the game and then none of us can moan about anything! But talk a load of crap before a game then go and lose and we go nuts!

So, Captain Phil, when you get played the ball during the game dont panic and golf chip the ball on to Terrys head for the 700000th time during the game have a bit of composure show ’no fear’ and pass the ball on the floor to someone who can do something with the bloody thing!!

If he has ankle ligament damage it could be months — I did mine last year... wish I’d broke it instead.

Me too Ciarán, about 9 months now and I’ve just got back to playing, but it isn’t the same. Really hope the lad’s OK, for his own sake not just the team’s.

Heitinga is playing so well at centre half, it would be foolish to move him. So who takes the defensive midfield role?

-Neville, with Coleman at RB.
-Arteta, if he’s OK to start and play a full game.
-Rodwell (still injured?)

Don't want to come accross as pedantic Pat but (this is what I do every day) he had an x-ray at Anfield not a scan. As it happens I work with one of the guys who covers the games there. Depending upon what scan they want CT, MRI, Ultrasound this would obviously have to be done at a Hospital later.

Hopefully it will be a bit of a sprain, I slightly damaged my ankle ligaments playing five-a-side and it was a month before I could run and nearly two before I could play, even then it wasn’t 100%. Depending on the damage done, it could be longer (like Ciaran and Matteo say). Hopefully the swelling will go down soon and he won't be out for too long.

Scan they did straight after the game was to determine if anything was broken, which wasn’t the case.

To scan for ligament damage, they have to wait until the swelling has died down, this could take a few days, so can’t necessarily be done straight away.

Once this is done, they can assess the extent of the injury. Depending on which could be anything from a week or two, to 9 - 12 months.

Yes, I know that, Dennis, and you know that but does Moyes know yet?

I hear Fellaini is going to London now on Thursday to see a specialist as the trains were cancelled according to the official website. A bit confused by that... didn't hear trains were cancelled. “We sent him this morning to get checked by a specialist, but the trains were cancelled and they couldn’t get to London so we’ve had to move it to Thursday,” Moyes revealed.

The squad for Chelsea according to the the official website is from: Howard, Nash, Neville, Coleman, Heitinga, Senderos, Distin, Baines, Osman, Arteta, Rodwell, Bilyaletdinov, Donovan, Gosling, Cahill, Saha, Yakubu, Vaughan, Anichebe, Duffy, Baxter, Forshaw

Moyes goes on to say other than Fellaini only Jags and Hibbert are injured, but I don't see Yobo in the squad myself.

I've just read on the official site that the Fellaini injury isn't going to be scanned until Thursday as the "trains were cancelled" so he couldn't get to London? As he's been our best player in recent weeks, couldn't we have made more of an effort to get him to London? A car, plane or a horse box if space is an issue!

Just strikes me as odd is all..

Neville comfortably slots into the midfield. Chelsea will be unable to play due to fits of hysterical laughter. We sneak away with a 1-0 win.

This is beginning to sound ominously like the Anichebe injury last year.

2-footed lunge, doesn’t appear too serious at that time, player (tries to) continue but is unable to continue & is subsituted, initial scans reveal no broken bones, "we need to wait until the swelling subsides", torn knee (ankle) ligaments, out for 11 months.

Hope I am wrong...

1. He won’t make Chelsea game, so plan without him.

2. The mystery deepens. CIA agents seen in vicinity of Finch Farm carrying X-Ray envelopes & false leg.

No other explanation for the world not having the detailed medical diagnosis within 2 days of the injury.

"No news is good news I suppose! "

Not bloody likely, well not when Everton are concerned. The longer we hear nothing the worse the prognosis IMO. As a previous poster said, it smacks of the Anichebe and Neville injury situation.

As has been debated many times before, do the club have to tell us? Do we have an automatic right to know?

If Coleman plays, it may be Benfica all over again because Chelsea are so strong on the flanks (and everywhere else for that matter). For the Chelsea game, I’d go for experience all the time.
ps: Fellaini out of the Chelsea game on the OS site

I share Ajay’s concerns, plus we had something similar with Neville after Fulham this season — no great problem at first and then an announcement that he would be missing for 2/3 months. Moyes's comment on the OS about cancelled trains is laughable for a club of our stature.

On selection tomorrow, for me, if Neville is going to play in midfield, Arteta has to be alongside him, as it was only during that period last season that he looked good enough in that role. As a combination, they gelled well.

What the hell am I missing here?? It say’s on the OS that he was due to go to London by train and it was cancelled so he will go a bit later.

I’m in Australia so I wouldn’t know if the roads were blocked by snow over there but why isn’t he being driven to London by limo or flown by private jet or even a domestic flight FFS?

I can’t believe in this day and age and with the ridiculous amounts of money being thrown around the PL we are sending one of our most valuable players to London on a train!!!

And doesn’t the city of Liverpool have someone qualified to look at his injury?
My son plays rep soccer here in Aus and if he was injured and had to go to a doctor 5 hours away I would have the car ready to go.

David, Coleman was played out of position on the wrong side of the park when he made his debut against Benfica. Surely you're not suggesting Moyes is about to drop Baines. I know he didn’t exactly cover himself in glory with his team selections last weekend but not even Moyes could be that stupid.

What? No trains on Wednesday either then? No cars available? Flights? Unbelievable stuff. This week isn’t getting any better.
