Jan Mucha

Comments (18)

I was reading this article earlier on our new Slovak goalkeeper Jan Mucha, arriving in the summer:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6002832,00.html.

So does anyone know anything about this guy? Apart from his stats (age 27, 82 appearnaces for Legia Warsaw, 14 for Slovakia). Has anyone seen him play a few games? Seems a good age and a good build for a keeper, I look forward to watching him this summer at the World Cup.

Also interested to hear people's opinions on whether they think this guy is coming in as a No 2 or as a serious contender for the No 1 spot?

Jan Mucha, the Slovakia keeper is given a big welcome on the sexed-up (as they say) OS today.

Committed to joining us after the World Cup finals, he must know that another nation's first choice keeper — also going to South Africa — has kept Nash on the bench up to close to bus pass age.

So what will happen come July?

I know that this post will open the door for Big Tim critics — nothing wrong with that — but I hope those who might know a few things about Mucha will share them with us.

He signed for Legia Warszawa in Poland in summer 2005. In the 2005–06 season he was second-choice goalkeeper, behind £UKASZ FABIANSKI.
Nuff said!!! He can’t be much cop!!!!

Don’t think 05-06 form can be used as a guide - will be a full 5 seasons later that he plays for us, plenty of time to improve...

Let's hope he doesn’t share Fabianski’s interpretation of the back-pass rule!!

Living in Warsaw, perhaps only one thing to say on the Mucha (pronounced mooka) signing is that he has put Everton on the map. Previously, nobody new nor cared about the Blues in this neck of the woods. So for the first game at least we should have another 38 million fans..

Generally over the years our goalkeepers have been as good as any but may understudies have come and gone without much fanfare. Goalkeepers don’t get injured as often as outfield players and back-ups play once in a blue moon. They also play to a ripe old age soccerwise so it can be very frustrating as a second choice.

Dickie Wright is still around but was a dodgy keeper at Everton so it remains to be seen if Mucha or Nash ever get any extended spells whilst Howard is around. I believe Howard is one of the top 4 in the Prem.

No 2 never heard of him. Can’t say I understand why Ruddy not given a chance as number 2.

Second choice to Fabianski????

Doesn’t sound promising to be honest, but as always we’l have to wait and see before we can judge.

I’ll second the comment on Ruddy. I would loved to have seen him given a chance. He performed very well when thrown in at the deep end. Then was totally ignored. He has then done well in Scotland. Turner/Nash should be shown the door with Ruddy recalled.

I must admit that goalkeeping has been a problem area for me for Everton. We have been lucky that Howard has been so durable. I think he’s a good keeper generally but he’s occasionally lapsed in the big matches (e.g. Liverpool away). I see Nash as someone who could do a job in the short term but wouldn’t enjoy him being no.1 if Howard was out for the season. You need the best goalkeeper you can get in my opinion and our best teams always had brilliant goalies (Sagar, Southall, West).

It is a shame that Turner blew his chance against United two seasons ago, he hasn’t had much luck since then. I have been watching Ruddy at Motherwell. He has done a fantastic job for them, they would love to keep him but think they can’t afford him. I think he conceded one goal in 11 games at one point.

The U-18 keeper Adam Davies is one to keep an eye on too, he looked a real confident big athletic lad for England in his age group and has had a tremendous recent record for the U-18s. I think it is a good move to give a chance to a goalie like Mucha but it seems to spell curtains for the careers of Turner, Nash and Ruddy. I really would like to see Ruddy given a chance at some stage, he is like Joe Hart in my opinion and might do well.

Can’t argue too much with the signing. A first teamer international goalkeeper as a back-up, and also with a nation who are with the world cup. If he plays well for Slovakia there, then it could be a coup.

Seems a good signing considering other clubs wanted him too.

His interview on the OS looked good too, does not seem a money-grabber from his comments when he said he could be a millionaire with the wages he was offered in Turkey. He seems commited to battle to the no1 spot to me, could be a great signing

Selling Ruddy to Celtic would be incredibly stupid. With no disrespect to Mucha has I know nothing about him, I don’t see the point in his signing. I would rather see Ruddy given a fair chance.

’When Mucha came over to England to visit his new club, he was given a tour around the Finch Farm training ground and was highly impressed.

"When they showed me the training facilities I was shocked. There are about 20 training pitches, all in perfect condition. This is a football world I always dreamed about," he said’

Thats from the OS. Makes you proud doesn’t it?
