Early Team news

Early team news coming out of GP is not good:

Midfielder Tim Cahill could be back in contention. The influential Australia international is still to return to training after suffering a calf injury two weeks ago but has not been ruled out by boss David Moyes.

Phil Jagielka, recently returned from a long-term knee injury, is doubtful due to a slight thigh strain, as is Leon Osman after a blow to the foot.

Top scorer Louis Saha (hamstring) is again ruled out and James Vaughan will be assessed after suffering a knock playing for the reserves in midweek.

In defence, Philippe Senderos (hip) is hoping to prove his fitness but Tony Hibbert (groin) is still out. Marouane Fellaini (ankle) will miss the rest of the season.

So it looks like (Moyes's choice):

Howard
Neville Heitinga Distin Baines
Donovan Arteta Cahill Bily Pienaar
Yakubu

My Choice:

Howard
Coleman Johnny Distin Baines
Neville
Donovan Arteta Cahill Pienaar
Yakubu

As you should know by now the usual YADM rules mean you predict the 11 man line-up, subs if you’re feeling really confident.

Jay must be close to the teamsheet - the Blue Kangaroo (I love that - hope he does) might upset this, but no bad thing against Hull. Billy’s best is yet to come.

But Jay, you risk the wrath, dies ires and scorn from up the Ballymena Road or thereabouts by suggesting that Cap’n Pip should be moved up into MF. In emergency, perhaps, but not as a matter of policy.

The possibility of The Heitinga being put up there is a more serious proposition. I want him settled at the back with The Jag, but for the moment he wouldn’t let us down in that role. Rodwell - who can do most of a good job himself - must be thriving in the company of such players.

And a ps about Saha - already earned his corn for us this season, and he hasn’t finished yet. Quite a few suggested that we took a chance on Owen. I would say Moyes kept well out of that one.

We should be comfortably beating the likes of Hull at home with half a team. As it happens we have a perfectly decent selection of players available.

Yakubu 5/1 first goalscorer (BlueSquare) !!

I wont be the first to cross Ciaran but I would like Nev to become a squad player rather than automatic choice.

It will be up to Coleman to seize his opportunity if he gets it and Rodwell (who I believe will be sub after his midweek adventure) to really step up for the rest of the season.

Jay, I would like to see more of Coleman aswell, but if the price I have to pay for that is Neville in midfield, then count me out.

Personally I think he deserves dropping altogether, but that wont happen, and next season we will be stuck with a 34 year old full back with zero technical ability.

Without any training, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cahill start on the subs bench.

I think Charlie’s got the team sheet right. With decent delivery, get on the Yak scoring in this 1!

I’d love to see Coleman given a shot in the second half of this game but not the last ten minutes as per DM’s tried and tested waste of time late substitutions. I don’t want to see Clumperos in a blue shirt again, he’s shite and isn’t going to get any better. I think Jay’s DM choice is what we will see. Either way I hope we don’t see a repeat of the last game against this lot, that was embarrassing.

Subs: Nash, Coleman, Jagielka, Bilyaletdinov, Rodwell, Gosling, Anichebe.

Can’t see Jags being risked with a tight hamstring, since this is probably the one he used to fix his ACL. Not jumped on the Coleman wagon just yet - like to see more than 1 terrible game, 1 very good 3/4 game and 1 average half game before deciding that a player is world class, and a better choice than the club captain and former International. Cahill if fit will start.

All the young players need game time if they are to continue their development. Also the players coming off an injury need to get match fit again. I would also like to see us go for the throat at Goodison. Thats why I would play that team. I would use players like Landon and Tim as sub in case thing didnt go to plan or we need to change shape.

James,

I doubt Moyes would play that team. He tends to stick to 11 starters!

I think its a possibilty that Neville will play the holding role in midfield and put coleman @ RB. Say what you like about PN but his positional sense is good and he’s got the discipline to play there, and in the absence of Fellani there’s only JH that can play the role effectively.

I just dont get this anti Neville stuff and the hype of Coleman.
I speak to many at the game and the general chat I hear is of nothing but praise for him.
Thats the beauty of football I suppose, but God help Coleman if he fails to meet the expectations that are getting lumped on him for having a good 45 minutes against Spurs.

I don’t get this anti Neville stuff either, yes Coleman is a great prospect but he’s hardly Daniel Alves yet. What Neville has are terrific Mental attributes work rate, determination, leadership which are just as important in any team as Pace, first touch, passing.

I could shoot off the game now and come back with egg on my face, but he has played no worse than anyone else and aside from the last two games I would find it hard to have a go at any of them with the run we have had, although Distin tests the nerves and the new Beckenbauer is as nearly as over hyped as the new Roberto Carlos on our bench.

I don’t think people are anti Neville at all. He just proves time and time again how crap he is. He simply does not deserve to be captain of our great club. Where were his leadership skills in Sporting when we were crying out for some?

Coleman not even on the bench. Disgusting! Moyes is really starting to piss me off with his treatment of this boy.

Anichebe over Donovan also seems insane.

James for all we know, Coleman could be injured. Moyes bought the lad so obviously rates him, but there is a pecking order and so Coleman needs bide his time and earn the managers trust. Let Moyes pick the side, he knows what he is doing.
