Vaughan on loan

Comments (18)

Suprised to see JV going out on loan at this stage in the season, even if its only for one month.

With Donovan playing his last game at the weekend and Yakubu and Anchiebe looking out of sorts at the moment, plus Cahill's injury and Saha's fragility, I would have thought that ironically this would be the time that Vaughan would be essential to either start games or be on the bench as an impact substitute if required. Just don't understand the rationale about sending him out on loan now...

Cahill is nearly back, Yak & Vic have hardly looked fragile and are never going to be dropped in place of JV.
On top of that Saha has had few injuries (comparatively) this season.
Oh yes, and we only over play 1 up top.

Basically Vaughan is not good enough to make the grade at Everton.

He may have looked good enough when he first burst onto the scene but serious injuries have stalled his development.

At present Vaughan finds himself behind Saha, Yakubu and even Anichebe.

I really think Moyes will bring in a new striker during the summer. That will push Vaughan even further down the pecking order.

Everton are not making use of Vaughan at present so why not send him out on loan.

I think a loan will at least answer two questions:-

1. Is Vaughan capable of playing 10 games on the trot or will injuries appear again like they did at Derby?

2. If Vaughan were to play 10 games on the trot how many goals would he score?

If Vaughan plays well and scores a few goals for Leicester then maybe Moyes will consider giving him another chance at Everton.

If Vaughan’s Leicester loan is another injury plauged nitemare for Vaughan then I expect Moyes to move him on permanently in the summer.

As I’ve said before the Everton squad can no longer afford to carry passengers and unfortunately for the last 4 years thats all Vaughan has been.

Dick Anderson pretty much has it covered, he won’t get to play much, and can only play up front. I firmly believe that the reason Anichebe is stying put for now, is because Moyes will use him on the right when Donovan, unfortunately, leaves.

I’m think if we can then Vaughan should be loaned for exactly the reasons Dick mentions..

the only thing I don;t get is why Moyes prefers Vic over Vaughan... James has more pace and better control than Vic - why not try him on the wing rather.... Its a pity though I love raw talent and Vaughan had it..

Next season I would rather James go for a season long loan - I wouldn’t want to sell him yet.

Vaughan may have been a better prospect then Anichebe years ago but nowdays you would have to say Victor has more chance of making it at Everton. Although his chances are slim too.

Vaughan had raw talent as a 16 year old but two long term injuries and a dozen or more niggly injuries have completely stalled his development.

Vaughan was ahead of most kids his age at 16 but he’s 22 soon and there are kids younger then him who are further along in their development now.

Moyes must be thinking that Vaughan just isn’t up to the challenge now. Even Agard and Jutkiewicz must be knocking on the door behind Vaughan now.

This is a perfect example of working out a deal with Galaxy. Vaughn’s pace, control, and just pure talent would go over big in LA. Playing constantly under Arena, Vaughn’s development would accelerate rather than him waiting for a chance for some little playing time at EFC. And, again, when MLS playoffs are over, it’s still not quite EPL mid-season. Vaughn’s (maybe Gosling too?) back with a lot of playing time under his belt.

Since there has been much discussion about what it would cost to get Donovan to EFC permanent, I think this type player loan transaction can be used in place of (or at least to offset) the usual cash transfer-fee deal. Mostly I say this because I’m an American wanting Donovan to play in the world’s top league. But also, since his arrival at EFC, I’ve become a fan of the club and believe sending the young ones needing experience to a top MLS side would be better than a second-rate club in England.

MLS’ season doesn’t follow the rest of the club world, which allows EPL teams to send out youngsters to play a full sched and still be back in EPL for the 2nd half of the season. Win-win situation. Particularly if they’re sent to play under Arena. Pretty surprising he’s never gotten a shot in EPL, when astonishing stiffs like Gullit got 2 shots.

I’ve been in favour of Vaughan going out on loan for months now. Best for hi - make or break - and a win-win for EFC. Good luck to him.

James Flynn - sound reasoning. A player loan/echange plan, like students and teachers do. Again to use the phrase, win-win.

Do any US based blues know of any MLS teams that have loaned players in rather than loaned them out and what would the situation regarding the MLS owning contracts rather than the teams themselves.

Quite simply Vaughan should be second choice behind Saha as every time he plays he makes a difference with his effort, pace, underrated skill and eye for goal (how cool was he last year scoring that pen against Manu). And Vaughan scored arguably the most important goal of the season for us when he scored late on to set up the home win against Burnley when we couldn’t find a win from anywhere. I am completely baffled by Moyes’s treatment of Vaughan and some of the above comments are completely wide of the mark. Yet again an example of how Moyes is happy for Everton to take a backward step. We will miss him as we did in the Derby at Anfield.

what a load of shite! There isn’t a better 21 year old striker in the prem than James Vaughn. Yes his injuries have held him back but thats football it happens. If we all had the same attitude as you dick we would never have signed Saha, Peter Reid or Andy Gray, and they were getting on in years. Vaughn is still a very young lad probabably on low wages, not costing us anything in transfer costs. Vaughn needs match practice and that is what he will get while on loan.

How many forwards are as strong, as fast, as brave, as commited as good in the air or have the work ethic and finishing ability of James Vaughn?

Keith and Gavin - I don’t really remember a loan into MLS from EPL. It always a good/solid European player near the end of his career who comes over here. The Donovan discussion is what got me thinking of it.

MLS knows, because Seth Bladder’s told them, they have to move the schedule to mirror Europe’s. The problem is getting all the teams into soccer-only or soccer-first stadiums. Not there yet but close; maybe 5 more years before all team have their own stadium. At that point, MLS will shift over to the European schedule. Plus, and most importantly, remaining a 2nd-tier league will be unacceptable. All that time and money invested to become a feeder-league for EPL, La Liga, etc? Anyone who believes that is definately not an American.

So, I believe this 5-year window should be taken advantage of by a club like EFC that has all this young talent getting little enough experience due to EFC’s determination to get up the Table to silverware contention. Moyes certainly HAS to play his best squad, yet these kids NEED to get playing time. MLS’ schedule fits this perfectly. What if at the end of this season, Moyes loaned some of this young talent to Galaxy? They haven’t played that much. What the hell, they’re young. That can’t be tired. Galaxy is a well-run, tough side with title aspirations, and a great following at home. A perfect atmosphere for young talent to play and develop.

On the other hand. It’s well-known that soccer is far and away the #1 youth sport in the US and has been for a long time. 20 years ago, kids reached a certain age and moved to other sports because professional soccer simply wasn’t to be seen. That’s the real reason MLS was formed and the league has strict rules about so many American players must be on the team. Plus, during that same time period, we’ve had 25-30 million immigrants from soccer-mad countries. America is reeeeeeeal close to producing (finally) a large-scale, genuine crop of soccer talent.

Once MLS is on Europe’s schedule, team owners will not be looking to send young talent overseas. In fact, they’ll be looking at grabbing young talent from around the world and bringing it to MLS. That’s not as far-away or far-fetched as Europeans might think. There’s only one step up for MLS to take and that is to compete for the best talent in the world. Simple as that.

I believe the loan idea a good one, but would understand European clubs not wanting to put any ideas in MLS heads (not to mention, young players completing a loan and going back with tales of America to other young guys).

For now, I’m trying to come up with a plausable method of Donovan going to my new (actually, my first) EPL favorite without hitting EFC too hard in the pocketbook and, at the same time, giving Arena a practical reason to think, "Hey, why not"?

Any loan deal is good as it keeps the player active and helps his fitness playing full games.Everton may be looking for some good money for Vaughan down the line if he is surplus to requirements which would be sad.Obviously Moyes has a soft spot for big Vic who is still trying to prove he can be someone worth keeping. The lad still lacks the brains of a good front man and although strong lacks speed which Vaughan has.Saha will be in and out and Yaks should be back to his best soon.We still need more goals from midfield and the return of Mikel may well help in that department.

It’s rumoured James Vaughans getting a barn door and a spade for his birthday this year - you’ve got to start somewhere I guess.

I genuinely wish the lad the best of luck I really do - I wish he was what some posters on here think he is but he’s not.

James Vaughan is undeniably quick, veritable shit off a stick. His first touch is OK and ability to make his run etc is fine. He’s honest and works his socks off.

The only thing he needs is natural goalscoring ability, the sort that cant be taught, and I’m sorry folks, he aint got it.

Vaughan is a natural goalscorer, he’s never been given the chance to prove it. Is there some catalogue of missed chances of his I’ve somehow managed to miss? I’m still a fan, I just don’t see what he hasn’t got and why people don’t think he can make it. This links in with the Beckford thread as we seem to be signing a new player to do something we’ve already got but won’t use.

Now Beckford for no transfer fee and presumably not much wages isn’t a big problem for me, but I’d like to see Vaughan at Everton doing the business. He could play a season on loan in the Championship, and if he bangs the goals in, bring him back and treat him like a new signing. The only thing he’s ever lacked is game time and fitness.

His career stats:

11 starts, 48 sub apps and 9 goals.
There’s simply no way to judge him on that as he’s never stayed fit long enough.

’It’s rumoured James Vaughans getting a barn door and a spade for his birthday this year - you’ve got to start somewhere I guess.’

What a disgraceful comment this is about one of our best prospects from someone who is supposed to be an Evertonian. Vaughan has shown that despite very limited opportunities he has an eye for goal and with a long run in the team who knows how good he could become.
The person who wrote this should examine his conscience or his mindset. I honestly believe that some people would say Ronaldo was shit if Moyes sold him and would say that Eddie the eagle was brilliant if Moyes signed him. They will follow him blindly to the detriment of the club. Vaughan is an excellent prospect with a great attitude. He just doesn’t like being frozen out especially when he’s just scored after coming off the bench yet again!
I see Anichebe got injured yesterday.
