So... we find ourselves in a striking crisis ? Saha and Anichebe are injured, while Yakubu is far from match fit. Meanwhile, Beckford is so far struggling to adapt to top flight life ? albeit 3 games in. So who's left?
James Vaughan... So what does David Moyes do? He sends the pissing lad out on load.

And why has Beckford been binned already? I mean for Pete's sake, the bloke hasn't had 5 minutes. Of course since he isn't a Moyes puppet i.e. Distin, Neville or Osman, then he gets crucified at the first attempt! Oh what an oh so glorious start to this season!

Absolutely delighted to see James Vaughan score his first ever hat-trick for Crystal Palace tonight ? it could have been all 4 goals but someone pinched the ball off him when awarded a penalty.
I would like nothing more than to see this most whole hearted and committed of players to have a storming loan spell at Palace, with the luck he deserves with injuries, and him then to return to Everton, with Moyes giving him the chance of a long run in the team, something he has never had.
If Saha showed half the energy and effort that Vaughan does, he would be unstoppable. Well done, James, here's hoping there are many more where that came from.
After playing with no forwards at home to Manure, I wonder what Moyes must make of James Vaughan's hat-trick tonight for Palace.

JV has said that he wants to use the Palace loan to convince Moyes that he has a future at Goodison.
He's going the correct way about it by bagging 3 on his home debut. He'll now have to show some consistency in goals and games to turn Moyes head. Here's hoping, the kid deserves a break.

I don't think Beckford has been binned, it's just we had a game against Manchester United and Moyes decided to go for a solid team instead of gambling on a player who, let's face us, hasn't exactly blew people away yet.

I find the OP a little absurd. He was loaned out to get regular first team action. He's been in our squad for 6 years now and has never had a long run in the team, fit or not. This stint at Palace could be the making of him and I think it's a good move for both parties involved. How is Yakubu 'Not exactly matchfit' ? is that your professional opinion? He played about 20 mins on sat and 90 mins for the reserves. He's ready to rock!
Vaughan is still a young player at 21 or is it 22, with his best years still ahead of him. I get amazed and annoyed at some of the comments people make about him on TW.
Yes, he has had his injury problems ? to put it mildly ? but he has battled back. He deserves some credit at least for doing that, but he seems to get damn all from some Evertonians.
Vaughan may not be the answer to all our problems... but, as far as I am concerned, he is PART of the answer. I think Moyes's decision to loan him out is stupid, as is the loaning out of Yobo. The last two seasons, we have been decimated by injuries ? when we do get a virtual full squad available, the manager starts to loan out players!!!! Absolutely stupid.

Just an excuse to Moyes bash! Vaughan is passionate about Everton and we can all tell that, but he has done nothing for years due to injuries. By sending him out on loan if he scores goals stays fit and gets confident then we get him back in three months. A good decision made by Moyes and one that every Prem manager, in fact every manager, would have done.
As for Beckford being binned, one game on the bench isn't exactly binning him. Moyes will bring him through to the first team as he seems fit. Probably as a sub this Saturday and then starting against Brentford.

All this post proves is that some people will never let Moyes be right. Over the summer it they were calling for Vaughn to be 'cleared out'. Now he should never have been allowed to leave. Luckily Moyes didn't sell the lad, he loaned him out so he is still ours. So, James Boden and co, be grateful that Moyesie didn't sell him to Palace.
Absolutely made up for the lad, his quality has never been in doubt - but unfortunately, his fitness frequently has. Hopefully he has turned the corner now, and can begin to fulfill his huge potential. Go JV!

Moyes seems to only give some players a chance. I mean he will give the likes of Beckford and Saha all the chances in the world but won't ever give Vaughan a start. It's obvious he could defintely do a job, has anyone seen his workrate and pace in comparison to our other strikers? He could atleast be a very effective substitute to put pressure on and provide an outlet when other players are tiring, It must be extremely frustrating and de-moralising to Vaughany and Yak to constantly see lacklustre perfomances from Beckford and Saha yet they still appear to be the two first choice strikers.

The point of this post was not being anti-Moyes ? it's called reasonably questioning a decision he made. A decision which at the time being has been a rather foolhardy one.
He knew there were striking problems so why send a lad out on loan who has a fair amount of top flight experience especially when everyone else is either injured or struggling for form. It beggers belief that he would rather play midfielders up front. Whether fit or not Vaughan has never been given a fair crack.
As for Beckford the lad while the lad has so far struggled how is he to ever improve unless he plays? And wasn't it the goals against United and Spurs that Moyes signed him on the back of?

I'd have given this a read if you posted it before Vaughan scored a hat-trick. Your criticism of Moyes is ridiculous, and the timing is wrong.
Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but so is foresight and Vaughan needs to play consistently and score consistently before he is worth a second look for us at the moment

This kid could have been the business. He has always had skill, pace, strength & an eye for goal. But he's had outrageous luck with injuries and, such things don't only take it out on your body but on your mind.
The idea that JV has found his level is insulting to the kid. He has done it in the premier league and in Europe. It may well be that a change of scene is what he needs to refresh himself. Change is often as good as rest.

Lets be honest, if Beckford went on loan to leeds i would back his chances of scoring a good few goals especially against a crap portsmouth team. But it's the Championship and it's inherently weaker and light years away from the Prem.

Alan, I agree, I would love to see Vaughan leading the line, he scares defenders. Always in their faces and willing tio actually run at them with the ball; however he has a worse injury record than Saha.
The last 3 loans he has been out on have all ended early due to injuries.

1) I am critical of the decision to loan out both Yobo and Vaughan because given what happened in the last 2 seasons ? when we had so many players injured ? it seems illogical when we have a virtual full squad for the first time in ages to loan out anyone. We only need two or three injuries and we are almost back to square one.
2) Whoever was the manager I would be critical of the decision.

James, I think people have missed the point of your email. Not the fact that JV has been farmed out, for me Beckford is no better. But the fact that Moyes has his puppets, Osman, Distin, Neville, Hibbert, Although I thought Hibbert had a good game against UTD, only to be the scapegoat agin in favour of the golden child Osman. For me Coleman could have gone into Buddah's place and leave Hibbert full back. We will never amount to anythnig until Moyes bins his likely lads in favour of the best players in their best positions.
Matt, the lads I go the match with all agree that Hibbert has become Moyes's fall guy. the lad very rarely does anything wrong defensively yet when a change is needed he gets booted out and usually Neville goes back to right back for a more attack minded midfielder.

Vaughan playing games, scoring goals and getting some confidence back is exactly why he has been sent out on loan.

Tony J , do you not think there is a chance that James's injuries have come as a result of trying to prove himself in ten minute snippets. A run in the side is what any player needs. I think David Moyes does that quite often but, unfortunately, with the wrong players. To an extent being loyal to players is a brilliant quality, however , there is a time to be ruthless.
I always thought Vaughan had the natural ability to be a success in the Premier League. Pace, aggression, huge workrate and enthusiasm, decent in the air, instinctive infront of goal. When he first got a run in the team, playing alongside Andy Johnson, his performances consistently put the little £8m slaphead to shame. The lad's just had unbelievable bad luck with his career thus far being continually blighted by injuries.

Not at all Andy, as I have said all his loans spells have been cut short due to injuries, when he is getting full games. So again, No his injuries have nothing to do with trying to impress Moyes.

I've just watched James Vaughan's hat-trick for Palace in midweek. Ok, it's only against Championship opposition but they were all really well taken goals.
Vaughan has never looked out of place in an Everton shirt when fit and I'm wondering why, with our current predicament, he wasn't given a chance this season? Beckford is above him in the pecking order ? but the lad has never scored goals above the 3rd tier of the game.
I know Moyes sees our strikers every day ... but, on the evidence so far, I can't see why Vaughan isn't getting a shot at nailing a place in our 1st team.
Colin, probably because he has never lasted more than three games without getting injured. Let him get his match sharpness back and someone else paying a wedge of his wage than waiting to get 10 or 15 minutes here or there.
Prove himself at Palace and stay fit and I hope a new contract is given to him, I would hate to see him go elsewhere.

Now, Saha is injured again Yak is still regaining full match fitness and Beckford has to improve to take that big step up to the Premier League.
I have just been checking through the results for Palace as Vaughan is there and he has bagged 3 for them against Pompey! Now please don?t get me wrong ? I don?t think that he is the answer to our problem as I think that he is now playing at the right level (The Championship). But with a lack of options up front, so much so that we resorted to the big Fella and Tim up front for the Utd game, did we do the right thing? Probably... as, if Vaughan is ever going to make it, he needs first team competitive football ? not the odd game in the rezzies and sitting on the bench.
So... do we think that Vaughan is in the right place right now?
