Disappointing Reserves Result
Comments (20)
While that is a word that is often touted on this site for most things Everton, I have to express my disappointment at the reserve team's result against West Ham.
Usually I'm not to concerned about the reserves but having reviewed the team sheet, its startling to think how we didn't manage to score 5, let alone lose.
Geuye, Coleman (apparently he's amazing), Yakubu, Neville, Beckford ? that's half the outfield players who could be considered senior team players.
If our squad is of quality now and we have good players on the fringes ? how come we couldn't beat West Ham Utd?

I know on this site the common theme is to moan about everything the club does but surely this is scraping the barrel.
"Does Stubbsy drive the mini-bus, David?"
Your guess is as good as mine to be honest. Your best ringing the club up for that sort of information.
On a slightly more serious note, let us not forget that many of the '1st teamers' named in that reserve game have not played a lot of football together, or indeed this season! Neville, Yak and Gueye for example.
Lets stay off Stubbs' back!
One of the ways to counter the spending power of the Sky 4 or 5 whatever it is these days is to have a good youth development/academy set up - and the Reserves should be a part of that.
I want ALL Everton teams to win. Realistically every team loses - what was the West Ham line up ? It seems to me that you are using a Reserve Team defeat to have a cheap shot at some of the players. I thought the back handed compliment to Coleman was a particularly clear example of this. I rate the lad as a very promising talent - a potential future international player. Not a saviour/messiah simply a player who could prove to be a real "bargain" signing and save us several million.
The up and coming players at Everton deserve support and encouragement not pathetic minded jibes.
But I can't figure out, why the reserve team is made up by youngsters only (normally). Aren't there any youth league or something? I believe the reserve team is perfectly suited for the first team players that can't really get in the team, or those players that haven't played as much, to catch up in match fitness.
For example. Let's pretend everyone is fit and not out on loan, and the players that didn't start against Man Utd was given a chance to shine for the reserves. We could have a team looking like this:
Mucha
Coleman Yobo Duffy Neville
Anichebe Rodwell Bilyaletdinov Gueye
Yakubu Beckford / Vaughan
Wouldn't this be a better way to keep the players fit instead of warming the bench and letting the kids play for the reserves. Let them play in some kind of youth league instead.
2 for 1 there......."that's asda price!"

Its not going to win anything, and who cares if it does? The team you should be showing your disappointment for is the first team.
The reserves are made up of, as been's returning injured players for fitness and the academy players who are simply not good enough to make it into the first team.
I remember reading an article in the Evertonian a while back regarding some of our first team players who where injured at the time, stating they wouldn't feature for the reserves because its all about the treadmill and other exercise stuff at finch farm. Very rarely will you find a first team injured playing coming through it... because its aimed at the kids not anything else.
I think you really should concentrate on more important things!
