Over last few seasons, we have always said what great team spirit the team has, and how the team works for each other.... and the the big green monster: MONEY.
Tim signs a new contract for around £40k per week; then Arteta comes in and holds out for £70k... Now your likes of Osman, Bily, Hibbert earn a lot less ? so are we getting a "them and us" in the dressing room and the team starts to divide? Maybe... just a thought.
Regarding our totally overpaid manager... but the problem is he has given us expectation which we have never had since the 80s.

Yes, footballers' wages nowadays are obscene, but I doubt that we're paying any more than most other clubs. Unfortunately you have to pay ridiculous wages these days to attract/retain decent players.

Money has nothing to do with it. Every club/business etc pays different wages to different employees - football is no different.
Our problem is a very simple one - we don't put the ball in the net. The games I've seen have been good from a performance point of view, and all those I've not been to point to good performances barring goal scoring.
Yakubu couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo and nor can the rest of them it would seem. We don't concede many but we don't score any = no points = bottom of the league. It's very straightforward.

I think money is the root of most of football's problems, not just Everton's. If I was Arteta on say £75k a week for the next five years, that's £19.5 million pounds. Win, lose or draw he still gets £75k a week.
The same goes for the rest of the clowns, they are on money beyond our wildest dreams, unimaginable money for showing no commitment or passion, I'll show passion and commitment for one week's wages of Arteta paid to me over the next two years. It is incredible amounts of money. Now if all footballers where on a basic wage of say £5k per week, still a truly amazing salary, with a win bonus of £50k a week, do you think they would try harder, do you think their passion would increase, their hunger get stronger? Too right it would!
Money is destroying the game we love, a working class guy paying £500 for a season ticket contributes 0.00012% to Arteta's annual salary.
All football clubs have to come to there senses and stop this madness, before it's to late. This pre-season has seen hardly anyone spend any money, because it's all going in the players' back pockets.

Couldn't agree more Andrew, I hate it when you see comments from the players and manager along the lines of were all really hurting, it hurts when we lose etc, I'm sure £40k a week soon heals the pain while the rest of us maintain that hurt until the following weekend when it all starts again.

Let`s face it ? at even 10K a bleeding week-our manager and players are taking the piss! But it`s football, ain`t it? So everything`s all right, init? Sooner the whole bloody game goes skint the better, then we might see some sanity prevail!
You only have to look at the England team post World Cup, cigars on, feet up, laughing and joking. The emotional tie-up to the game is diluted immensely by the mansion, Bentley, racehorse and model girlfriend.

I agree players wages and greed has often been a reason for dressing room fall-outs but I genuinely believe this has had no effect on this bunch of players.
However, money in the game has and, as we are not one of the bank-rolled teams, we need to re-evaluate our goals and ambitions. I remember some kopite shite saying you can't win anything with kids .....well you can't win anything without money!

I love seeing posts saying we should do this, top four this year, we have a fantastic squad, we can win a cup etc... c'mon, get real, face facts. We were a great club with an amazing history, we are now a mid table side with amazing history, with very little to shout about for 15+ years unless we get bank-rolled and, to be honest, I couldn't care if they are Arab, Greek, Mexican, or Dutch, we will slip further away from the rest, that's the facts.

Swallow copios amounts of chosen medicine, usually in the form of a large glass with a frothy head, moan like fuck to anyone within earshot and then stagger home chunnering to self like a schizophrenic with an inner ear problem.
When home throw a couple of well aimed boots in the cats direction and retire to bed.

Shouldn't wages be done on a pro rata basis on TV revenue and league position rewards come the end of the season with say everyone on a basic £5g per week?

Everyone wants to to solve the mystery: WHAT IS THE CAUSE of our calamities. I personally think it's Moyes's personality. I have in mind his mood-swings, his airing his defeatist viewpoints in public, and his over-cautious nature. A manager is like a military commander. Can you imagine a Napoleon or Zhukov expressing such opinions in front of their soldiers? Moyes has exhausted his possibilties.

I cannot begin to comprehend the amount of money earned by the men who play football in the Premier League. Yes, it is obscene. Yes, it sickens and angers me that it is happening, and that players from long ago and actually not so long ago, who worked just as hard and maybe won something for their club, got peanuts in return, relatively speaking. Yes, big money should go to schools and hospitals and communities rather than lucky individuals. But you know what? It won't, and until the game goes bust it will carry on like this. It saddens me greatly, and so my way of coping is to ignore it. Defeatist attitude perhaps, but I prefer to think of it as a survival technique. Yaya Toure, £200,000 a WEEK! Nobody can do anything to be said to be deservedly earning these amounts. Therefore, how can we continue to support a team, when it is beyond a player or manager to justify their salary? Market values blah blah blah, yeah whatever, but this is the national game, the international game, the people's game. It is in danger of losing its basis in reality.

If fans across the country stopped attending games in droves they would force a change. Without fans the game is worthless and doesn't work as a spectacle. If you want to facillitate change then the only way is to vote with your feet.

I am not sure we do hold the power, if you look at EFC, most of there money comes from SKY and the Premier League, gate receipts are but a fraction of the cake.
We as a family gave up with Sky Sports a few years ago, in fact it was free on Sunday and we still did not watch it. Would I like it, yes, am I going to pay £61 a month for it, NO, like everything connected with football, it's a fan rip off.
Football is the current fad, but when it bursts, and it will, the REAL fans, who turn up on a cold wet night in December may not be there, priced out of the working mans game by prawn sandwich munchers, who will move onto the next fad.

I was quite happy with Sky in around 1995 when I started going the pubs. There would always be a Wednesday night game on, even if the teams were still playing at the weekends (Saturdays 3pm), and it would be an event.
Still, I'm sure if it wasn't for travelling fans they'd have games every day of the week like in baseball etc.
