Lewis Holtby anyone? No, me neither... that was until TalkSport started bigging him up due to his dual nationality status on behalf of Mr Capello. He is, you see, the son of a Scouse toffee member of the RAF who has married a German freulein.
Holtby is reported to be an avid Evertonian who has dreamed of playing in England ever since his dad "infected him with the Everton virus" at the age of 5. I guess that should translate as "the Everton bug".
Anyway Mr Kenwright, there's your invitation, Rodwell and Holtby, English and German captains in the centre of midfield, over to you...

A possible right winger?

Plays like Joe Cole, is an under 21 international, an Evertonian and a work permit will be no problem.
Sounds like the answer for our right wing.
Oh... is he free agent? Or has the transfer window re-opened?
Just looking forward to Christmas MK!!
Correction:- it seems his auld man is a Brummie, but a Blue nonetheless.
I saw this too yesterday and thought i would wait for someone to write about it. He was touted in some quarters over the summer. He certainly fits the "one for the future" tag that Moyes likes.
Are they going to let him go at christmas for free? Has anyone ever seen him play?
I remember this causing a little tete-a-tete earlier this year on TW!
It was the morning that Ciaran got out of bed the wrong side......

Good memory, Gerry!
Glad to see those earlier mailbag pages are working again... after a fashion. I see some weird editor-type issues with the text that's pulled out of the database... but Lyndon is suffering under a heavy workload right now, so I'll just add it to the list.
Lewis Holtby has been contracted to Schalke 04 for the last 15 months and then loaned out to a couple of other German clubs. This would suggest to me that they see as one for the future and as they are a regular feature in the Champions League he could be there for a while and would probably be out of Everton's price range
I think based on where we are, my 5 year old daughter is out of our price range.
Michael - my memory over 1 year amiss - the article was in March 2009, NOT earlier this year!
Tell me, that 1 year I missed out on - did we win the League or Cup, boys?
Gerry we didn't win the cup but we were subjected to Project Blue Beam.
If you thought 9/11 was a conspiricy wait till you check this out.
Ever wondered about chemtrails?
Hopefully a couple of tranches of the Sky money will have gone into Bill's piggy bank before chrimbo and he might be able to buy us that pressie we all want.
Holtby is an exciting prospect. Very surprised to learn he's an evertonian! Doubt we could afford him!
When does his contract run out?
Surely all he has to do is demand a transfer, through his teddies out of his pram, refuse to play and tell them he wants a move to Everton for a transfer fee of 50p.
Chaps, he's a Schalke player (on loan to Mainz) and they're still hurting over how they let Mesut Ozil go to Werder Bremen (who sold him to Real Madrid), so I can't see them letting him go any time soon.
I was interested to hear the Guardian Football Weekly podcast people talking up Lewis Holtby of Mainz. They laughed at rumours in some papers linking him with a move to Liverpool on the grounds that he'd hardly be likely to exchange being top of the league in Germany for a relegation struggle in England. Interestingly, though, they also said that he is, in fact, an Everton supporter. If so, does anyone know what he's like, how much he'd probably cost and should someone tip off DM?
