Foreign Referees ? the way to go ?
Comments (17)
This weekend sees problems up North with Scottish referees striking over criticism from Clubs and managers, the main culprits in recent years being Hearts, Rangers and Celtic. Celtic and their manager Neil Lennon in particular being voiciferous when results go against them, claiming conspiracies etc. To maintain their fixture list, the SFA are trying to recruit foreign refs to come over.
We've had our problems in recent years with idiots such as Clattenburg and Poll. Other clubs also appear to have major problems with refs ? Atwell being another classic.
I understand language may be a problem, I also understand foreign referees possibly having a problem with our style of play. But would foreign referees help restore balance to top games by ignoring reputations of certain clubs and players and evening the field up a bit? Would a foreign referee have given the RS as much as Clattenburg did in that most infamous Derby?

Neil Lennon is a twat and don?t even get me started on Celtic after their fans' behaviour with regards to the Poppy appeal, a truly scumbag football club.
The fact is that about a third of Premier League games are decided by egregious refereeing errors. Recruiting the very best refs from Europe, the US and elsewhere would have to help. At least it might put an end to some of the petty bias problems that have become embarrassingly obvious.
In what way, Dennis, is this being disgraceful?
Don't know what Ian's issue is but from a distance it's always struck me that Celtic have had nearly as bad decisions in derby games as us!
Maybe I never got my point across as it was meant. The amount of football that is played in England from grass roots to the EPL we shouldn?t need foreign referees ? what we need is technology to help referees out.
Anyway, I would say that higher ethical standards among the refs is one answer. Video judgment is another, and I'm sure there's many more. But I don't think going abroad is the answer.
Nothing like England then!!
If a player gets another player sent off by actions such as these then it is deliberate cheating on the same scale as the most synical of fowls and deserves to be treated as such.
Whilst I am on this subject my most hated offence the deliberate hand ball by an attacker in the opposition goal area, why is it if a defender handles the ball to prevent a goal then it is an automatic red where as if the attacker scores with his hand then he only gets yellow, this must be the most grossly unfair rule going.
I am sure once the first few suspensions start to be served then we will see a marked decrease in this sort of behaviour.
At the end of the day the ref can never see everything and if we are unwilling to interrupt the game to consider video evidence then at the very least we should use it after the event to reduce the perceived level of injustice that is breading such hatred as is flowing at the moment.

Foreign refs are possibly more likely to favour the big clubs because they are the ones they know most about.
