1) - They all are football teams.

Southampton, Bolton and Aston (Villa) all end in -ton.
Tim Cahill played for us and Millwall as well.
Cardiff's manager used to play for us and will manage us as well one day soon.
West Ham also won the ECWC and Wigan are also from the North West and play in blue and white?

The Bonus point they have all won a cup since we last did, but we're certainly not 'worse' than any of them in any way, "if you know yer 'istory" and all that.

That's why we're worse?
a) Aptly enough, they've all got an 'a' in their name - even Bolton to give them their fill name ? and we haven't.

Yeah, for the bonus point, they've all won the league cup and we haven't. But they were all underdogs in their respective finals and won....so I reckon I earned an extra bonus point! for giving two correct answers!?
And what we have in common with the others is that they have lost a League Cup Final too.

ANSWER: Everton have been a losing Cup (FA Cup or League Cup) finalists in the last 9 years (since Moyes took charge), as have the mentioned teams.
BONUS POINT: Everton are worse than those teams as they have all won silverware in the last 9 years (since Moyes took charge).

Can't really say I'd swap places or that we're worse than any of those sides other than Spurs though.
We are worse than Portsmouth and Middlesbrough? Didn't realise they were above us in the league.
We're quite a lot better than all of those teams except Tottenham, and I'd rather be in our position than any of theirs bar Tottenham any day of the week.
Also, not enough seems to be made of the fact that Portsmouth effectively cheated to win the FA Cup. They spent money they didn't have on top players they couldn't afford and had to pull off some not-quite-legal tax dodges to achieve it.
The court ruling was along the lines of 'we won't punish you because the letter of the law wasn't quite clear enough, and to punish you fully would put you out of business which is no good to us but you clearly broke the spirit of law and no-one will be allowed to get away with this in future'.
Also, not enough seems to be made of the fact that Portsmouth effectively cheated to win the FA Cup. They spent money they didn't have on top players they couldn't afford and had to pull off some not-quite-legal tax dodges to achieve it.

Also, I'd argue that if Chelsea hadn't been cheated out of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona in 2009 we'd have had a very good chance indeed, I think we'd have won.
You have to accept that once you're in a final, luck plays an important part. For example, reaching the final to find an aggrieved, determined and title winning Chelsea team waiting for you or reaching it to find a mediocre Championship side waiting for you.

I am not being flippant, I am actually interested in your response and anyone else who has an opinion.
For all the teams outside the top 5/6 (since the addition of City to the rich clubs and Spurs' resurgence which has also been backed with plenty of money), winning a trophy is possible but highly unlikely and, if they do win a trophy, it will likely be the last one they see for a decade or more. Very similar to when we won in 1995, a great achievement but a somewhat freak occurrence, as with many of those teams mentioned. We very nearly did it but lost to a strong Chelsea team.
I cannot argue with the frustration at Moyes over team selection, tactics and style of play. I sympathise with the hunger for trophies and the unwillingness to accept mediocrity, I hold those very same frustrations. However, I cannot see the point in this sort of post as I do not agree that those teams are "better" and I would not have wanted any of those managers as a replacement for Moyes.

#1 At least Everton got to a final. I'd have that over a 3rd round knock-out by Shrewsbury or a home beating by Reading any day of the week. Was a great day out, even though we lost, but hey, that's football.

What silverware have Blackburn Rovers won since Moyes took charge at Everton? I know that they won the league cup in February 2002, but that was whilst Walter Smith was Everton manager.
Everton have nothing in common with Southampton, Millwall, West Ham, Cardiff, Bolton, Wigan and Aston Villa. They all wish they could swap places with us.
Portsmouth, Tottenham, Blackburn, Middlesbrough and Birmingham, two of which have been relegated and two more who could be this year. The other have a manager who spends money like it is going out of fashion.
Reality is we are as good as we are and only a handful of teams are currently better, all of whom have spent silly money in the last ten years.
All those teams have won something in the last 10 years. Does that make us worse though?

Dean Adams ? That manager who spends money like it's going out of fashion, has managed to get his team to the CL QF regardless if Madrid has already ripped them new arseholes, and will do it again tonight... However the money they would have made from progressing and the amount of coefficient points earned, will likely stop them drawing the big teams earlier...
In the mean time, we can't even get past easier teams in the Euro Mickey Mouse Cup.

Mark Stone ? Blackburn won the league in the 90s, did they not...? Meanwhile, we'll be lucky to finish in mid-table in the future if things are not changed significantly in the summer months.

What a stupid argument.......If you really think any of those teams (other than Spurs) are 'better' than Everton or the others have anything of substance 'in common' with us then goodbye and good luck watching any one of them instead!!

James Hollister ? Have to say I resent your assumption that I am willing to settle for mediocrity. But ,back here in the real world, we have no money and, on that basis, I believe we are doing as well as can be expected. My solution would be to find the players as we have been and keep building, hoping to stay in the frame long enough for our finances to improve.
I really hoped that the 24-year rule would continue and am not happy to have lost that piece of history, but that's life, get used to it.
