Cahill in or out?

With Tim Cahill nearing full match fitness, I was wondering what fellow blues thought about him returning to the side? I feel on current form Osman should be kept in the hole off Beckford as he has shown what a good wee player he can be.
Timmy is a legend but I feel now maybe the time has come to look for a different type player to play in the famous hole of the front man that Moyes likes so much. I am not saying Osman is the long term answer but somebody tricky with a good eye for a pass and a good shot should be looked at rather than Cahill who just seems to score with his head.
My candidates would be Bilyaletinov? With somebody fresh we could use Cahill as an impact sub and back-up striker if needed. It will let us move our play onto a new level and play the school of science stuff.

I wouldn't like to see any player on the field until they are match fit.

The way the team are playing at the moment then Ossie should be starting with Timmy on the bench, at least for the first half, then bring Tim on to give United's young defenders a hard time in the air.
They'll have heard of him, they'll have watched him in action but they won't know what's hit them when they've got to deal with him in their face and they're tired.

When the team is performing so well, there is no point to change the set-up. One concern to me is that Osman often seems to fade against "big 4/5/6" oppositions. So, put Cahill on the bench, and let him play the last 20-30 mins would be appropriate. For Bily, I also think that he is likely to leave soon, but before then, just hope that he will score score a winning screamer in Old Trafford this time ~ so, by the time he leaves, we can create a You Tube collection of his wonder goals for Everton ~
I agree that Cahill should start on the bench. The team that has been unchanged for the last couple of games have knocked in 5 without reply so should keeps their places. Also, is it any wonder we keep getting so many injuries, when the second a player is close to full fitness, he's back playing 90 minutes? We have shown that we do have decent back up, so lets use it a little more, and not just when we are desperate.
I believe in sticking with a winning team, if injuries allow.

Craig, I was thinking the same. Moyes will play Cahill as a striker - or revert to his old 4-6-0 formation, just how you like to call it...
Just go for it, stick the Apostle up front with Becks and bombard the youngsters, lets face it if Jags gets the ball it is going to get hoofed anyway.

Moyes has got to put the likes of Cahill, Arteta, Fellaini and Saha on the bench if they return. Why change a winning team? It is then upto them to impress and earn a recall when they get brought on!
What a load of crap there is on here from some Evertonians. Suggesting that Bily should play in the hole when many have rated him either our worst ever buy or at least in our worst ever team is quite incredible. And even more farcical is to say he should play in place of our leading scorer. Come on lads lets raise the IQ of this forum above 30.
Mick, I am guessing that the posters suggesting that he play in the hole, hold a different view to the posters who laughingly suggest he is our worst ever player. Nothing to do with an IQ, it's to do with personal opinions on a player.

It would be a bonus if we saw a fit Cahill, and I mean a really fit Cahill.
Its been along time since, and lets hope he gives the Aussie friendly's a miss in June.

If TC is fit he WILL start, no doubt about it.
Osman, Baines, Neville, Hibbert and Distin have been the players that have dragged us through this injury period and wanting to avoid feedback but Billy is shite, he avoids the tackle, he's slow and lacks vision but hey that's why we all have different opinions.

Liam (and others) I've said this a number of times, but it doesn't seem to sink in - Ossie was arguably our MOTM against Man U at Goodison last season. Therefore he CAN play against top teams. Whether he will or not is another matter.
Brian, he was probably also our best player when we beat Chelski too.
What everyone is missing is...Cahill and the other injured players ALL lack match practice and there is no way any of them will come straight back into the team unless one or two of the present side are not performing !!
There is also no way that Osman will make way for ANYONE at the moment so all the debate is meaningless !!

Can't agree with your MOTM assesment in that game, however Osman undoubtably has the tools, but for me, too often fails to live up to his promise in the big games.
Cahill on the other hand, is a big game player and should start if fit.

Mick, watch Russia and watch where Bily plays ? off the striker; give him a chance in his rightful position. If you can't see that a player would struggle playing in a wrong position then it's your IQ that's in question mate.

We've got a great chance at Old Trafford. ManU have a mid-week game, then us, then a huge Champions League matchup 3 days later. The Arsenal loss this weekend mean that the league is pretty well sewn up for ManU so I'm betting we get the 2nd team out there on Saturday.
I'd keep pretty much the same side, Rodwell for Heitenga. Bring on Cahill for the last 30 minutes. Not sure if Arteta is match-fit yet. I'd rather him sit this one out.

Interesting discussion this, and for once not peppered with too much Moyes-bashing which is refreshing, maybe it's the sunshine finally lifting the gloom?
I agree that we have a great chance of getting points ( or more likely point) off a United side with eyes on other prizes and some tired legs and I also believe we should stick with pretty much a winning team, or at least the one that ended up winning last match (Vellios aside).
Partly it's the confidence in the side and proving to players that good performances = continued opportunities, but it's also down to giving youth and overlooked players (like Bily) as much of a chance to prove themselves as possible so we understand what squad depths we do have and/or to increase their exposure (i.e. add another couple of million to Rodwell and Billy's price tags). And yes I'm happy to sanction them both moving on in the summer (Bily isn't a bad player but he's not the winger we need and from what I've seen Rodwell has equally as much chance of being a Jeffers as a Rooney so if the silly money is there when we need it we should grab it, I'd rather keep Felliani and Baines).

Can anyone tell me how much a new contract would actually cost Everton for Fellaini? Surely this would massively affect the transfer budget?
Dont get me wrong, he should be kept on, no question but do we have enough funds to actually do both?

We have a player who still has a lot to offer especially away from home in a 4-5-1.
He cannot continue to play 50-60 games a season or he will be finished in 2 years.
Used properly he could play for anothr 4. For me 4-4-2 at home sometimes without Cahill and 4-5-1 away with Tim playing.

I'm sure I'll be in a minority here but for me Cahill has been garbage for about 2½ years now. Aside from scoring a few headers ? and let's have it right, he plays more or less as a forward, not a midfielder ? he offers the team zilch. His perceived aerial power (which is more about timing) means that we constantly hit high balls at him, which he is easily bullied off by 6'-4" centre halves. He has no pace, the first touch of a baby elephant and when it comes to cute through balls or 25-yard howitzers, there is nothing doing.
Cahill is Everton 2005 ? blood and guts, hard work, percentages... nowadays, he looks completely out of his depth to me. Someone used the word "quality" further up to describe him. That would probably be the last word that would come into my head in describing Tim Cahill.

Technically (apart from with his head) he is rank average. The improvement in the team's style without him in it has been clear. More movement, more guile... and more football on the floor in and around the box. Thanks and all that, but time to move on.

Like Pienaar, he was better than what we had when he signed but the team has outgrown him and he?s become a limiting factor. I remember saying two summers ago that we should flog him whilst his profile was high, because he was worth far more to us in the bank than he was on the pitch.
I think that we?re probably still in the minority but, now that the whole ?It?s only Cahill?s goals keeping us up; just watch us fall apart when he?s away at the Asian Cup? myth has evaporated, more people are coming around to our way of thinking.
