Villa-bound Moyes?
Comments (60)
The rumours will not go away. My mates who are Villa fans are convinced not only that he is the right man to bring glory days back to their club, but staggeringly that a deal has in fact been done. With the managerial ins and outs today, anything is possible.
One pal, who called the Darren Bent signing before it happened, reckons Lerner has a real hard on for Moyes and has been speaking to him since June 4th and this despite the bookies making McLeish odds on favourite for the hotseat at Villa park.
Personnally I honestly couldn't understand it if DM left us for that lot, money to spend or not. I would see that more of a failure on his part that he hasn't delivered in 10 years at the club, rather than excuses to lack of resources. Perhaps its all just rumour mill garbage, but there is no denying Moyes' increasingly disinterested and resignated look on his face in the last few seasons.
So who do we get in to freshen things up and keep us moving forward? I think we need a new strategy, perhaps a foreign coach. Ranieri? Either way I foresee a major change ahead at Goodison...

Nevertheless nothing ever really surprises me in life any more. However I feel this one is unlikely.
Incidentally, I have never heard of a "resignated" look before, but I think I know what you mean.
Martin O'Neill is a great coach and for him to walk away from Villa should speak volumes............
If Moyes did go then Hughes or O'Neill are the ideal choices. But that is just speculation !!!!!!
if Moyes does leave (not happening by the way) then Poyet is the only manager I'd consider to replace him
young, dynamic and he'll get us playing good stuff, a gamble but I prefer the younger ype of manager rather than the older short-termist ones
I find it more staggering that they think he'd actually bring back the 'glory days' to be honest.
Moyes decides he can take the club no further and seeks a fresh challenge at Villa.
Meanwhile Mark Hughes and Alex McLeish are available and waiting in the wings as the manager merry go round goes for another spin...
Plenty in there to start all sorts of rumours...
What has Ranieri actually achieved?
ohh and Grant took Chelsea to a Champions League Final, my point is made
IMO, Martinez must have been Lerner's first choice, to be offered the job before anyone else.
but we all know what we are going to get from Moyes with this squad of players,
negative tactics, what we have(a point), we try to keep' terrible performances against the clubs below us, home and away
then hey presto 7th/8th place finishes.
Think it would be interesting to see what O'neill could do with this squad of players, think he would be more offensive than Moyes.
I think it would be a benefit to everyone, including Moyes if he where to move on now, he's treading water here, both parties are not progressing and I think it would be interesting for him and the club/us if a parting came this summer.
The predictability if he stays, is palpable, and the whole club and indeed Moyes, need stimulating, but like I said earlier it would be a gamble for him and the club, has he got the bottle to leave his comfort zone.
1. Thomas Tuchel, Mainz
2. Paul Lambert
3. Roberto di Matteo
4. Gus Poyet
5. Mark Hughes
Be amazed if he went, but I'm amazed Martinez stayed and Mcleish left Brum.
Moyes looked the most relaxed and settled I've ever seen him at the end of this season - if he goes I suggest somethings changed in the last 2 weeks between him and uncle Bill.
Nuff said.
Moyes might go there, but Lerner the Younger (and Dumber. The classic case of the idiot son inheriting the father's fortune) has a history of being "hands-on" (another classic case of an owner who thinks he's the smartest in the room just because he signs the pay checks and who'll dare tell him different). Can't see DM going for that.
Stay put Davey. We're getting there and as long as Lerner owns Villa, you'll always have a rich club you know you'll finish higher then.
O'Neil produced a worse team than Moyes with far more money, and then left them in the lurch a week intop the season when he was denied more dosh.
He did not once finish above those that were able to spend more than him (Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool), and in 2010, Man City. He usually finsihed below us with a fraction if his resources.
Why would we want him?
We've no money, why would he want us?
Villa fans are truly full of crap, seeing interviews saying, Moyes has done well here, time to move to a "bigger club". What a laugh! what a bunch of deluded souls!
Hypothetically if he did go then Owen Coyle or Paul Lambert would be good, as would Poyet. Unfortunately the only managers I could see us getting are from the free market... O'Neill or Hughes are the best of that bunch!
BS over for tonight boys..
Then on discussing other names, reaches Moyes. "Yeah, Moyes has done a good job at Everton, but will be frustrated at never having a budget, so it could be the right move for him."
I mean, fuck me, do these guys get paid for this rubbish?
I was reliably informed by a Villa STH recently that O'Neill walked because he was told to trim the wage bill, which means selling players at the end of the day. OK they splashed out for Bent in January, but that was when they were staring relegation in the face.
Now we have a situation where the FSW was turned down/turned them down because he wanted £30m to spend and was told where to get off. They wanted Martinez but he turned them down. Now it could be Grayson, Mc Leish, Hughes, the list goes on.
The bottom line is that they are having difficulty securing a new manager because they have no or very little money to spend. Which is always why they wanted Moyes in the first place, having observed him working with no money for us. Why in the name of Dixie would he want to go there ?
It will not happen.
McLeash had money at Birmingham didn't he... but choose to stick witht he players who got relegated - so why would we want him... oh yeah, we might be able to pay his wages, unlike O'Neal's.
Seriously...step away from your keyboard...come back in Aug.
Thanks
By email.
Now, I know there are those on here who have in the past claimed that Lerner wanted to buy Everton, and was given the knock back, and others who have said he was the kind of owner to aspire to, being seen as not too meddling, but if it's true that he listened to dissenting voices about appointing McLaren, then he really is an impediment to the club.
I can see why McLeish would not want to stay at Birmingham. They look like the classic case of an owner biting off more than he could chew (if the protracted nature of the takeover was anything to go by), but if he really is crossing the divide, then expect the dissenting voices to become a crescendo.
So, OP Conor Waters, if all of this does pan out, ask your Villa mates how they feel about it. I bet that hard on of Lerner's is a bit more flaccid now? Do let us know! A whinging Brummie is an awful thing to have to hear, but I've always found a fuming mad one to be almost entertaining...
I normally get to hear any rumours about them. All the Villa fans are of the opinion that Moyes will be their next manager... "whim gonna get yowr gaffer" etc
BUT... & it's a BIG but, none can provide any credible evidence to back this up.
To be honest I thought Moyes would be Lerner's first choice, so all that Martinez business was a shock.
I bet it was for Moyes too eh, if Villa came in now he'd publically be 'second choice', can't see this sitting well with the opinion he has of himself !!!
If he does go, it says more about our chairmans failure to attract investment after ten years.
Moyes is loyal to Everton, but the realisation that Kenwright just cant deliver would force any manager with a fierce ambition to walk away.

Umm hardly, since lerner is trying to recoop as much money as possible.
Most of their best players have been and gone, with Young possibly going to Utd or one of the other clubs.
There is a lot of unrest at Villa presently...but career wise how in the fuck is moving to that shower better than staying with us? If anything is a downward step, Villa are happily imploding, and if I was Lerner i'd try to sell the club to first idiot that would buy it.
Saying that though Moyes as repeatedly categorically stated he is going nowhere, and its almost the same story year in and out...is he going to villa? what fuckwit makes these stupid stories up in the first place when there is zero basis in any fact what so ever?
This story is almost as much as a non starter as we are at the beginning of the season
Id take Di Matteo over that shit eating gob shite Mark Hughes any day of the week...he will never be good enough for this club..ever
Hopefully this will put an end to it. Leaving Moyes to get on with buying us some players.

(sigh, I hate the summer break......AND the football season!)
I've made it clear numerous times that Poyet is the only manager I'd want to replace Moyes but I know if Moyes was to leave then we'd end up with a free agent like a Hughes or even worse Dave Jones.
This is one West Midlands link where I am confident from 3 different sources who work in & around West Brom'. One guy I know is a friend of one of their scouts & all tell the same story..Di Matteo was apparently aloof, unapproachable & not at all liked around the club. Apparently he lost the ddressing room & the club suits were rumoured to question his committment & work ethic.
This is all heresay & rumour but comes from those around the club, who would know.
The one thing you can say about Moyes's relationship with his current Chairman is that his current chairman has given him time and allowed him to make mistakes and recover from them. Randy Learner might be the same but the Villa fans are fickle, impatient and in many cases a bunch of knob-eds. Some of the shit they come out with and how they believe they are entitled to success is just astounding. They do my head in. I know this because now livin in the WM I am surrounded by them, at work, in the pub, at the side of my kids football pitch on a Sunday morning. Knob-eds 90% of em, and arrogant with it. Some of the shit they deal out to the Birmingham blue noses sounds very familiar to what we get from the RS. Roberto Martinez didn't turn the job down because of what Wigan could offer him, he turned it down because he knows perfectly well that if he didn't hit the ground running at Villa Park then he would be crucified within 12 months. So my advice to Moyes ........stay away from the Villa park hotseat,- the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
With a better squad of players than what he has been working with this season I think he is certainly a manager who can get a team to finish in the higher positions of the PL. A gritty, determined Scot who is is very ambitious and also has a good eye for spotting young local talent.
I certainly wouldn't write him off if Moyes was to jump ship.
Moyes is staying!
I despair!
