After seeing us linked with several players already but signing nobody as yet, not to mention the disappointment of recent close-seasons, it?s fair to see why many blues are negative about transfer activity at Goodison.
However, have we actually heard anything about the outcome of the ?chat with the chairman?? They?ve not come out and said that we have no budget, they?ve simply allowed us to judge based on the recent past and our inherent (justified IMHO) negativity.
In contrast, Tim Howard said in a recent interview that ?big players? were coming in and that the squad would be seeing some new faces. I have a feeling we may just be pleasantly surprised by who comes in through the doors. May not be marquee signings, but if we land any of N?zogbia, Canales, Ba, Djalo or Defour then I?d be very chuffed indeed.
We need striking reinforcements and a pacy replacement for Pienaar primarily though. It wouldn?t surprise me if we get any of the abovementioned, I believe they are all reasonably realistic. Moyes has a reputation for signing young players and developing them and although N?Zogbia and to a lesser extent Ba are proven Premiership players, the rest fit that description and are more realistic. For me, Klose was never on the radar (Moyes does not sign old players as a rule ? Distin and a few other exceptions).
I?m no apologist, nor a ?Doddy? (sorry Doddy, nothing personal mate ;), and am well aware of Moyes? limitations, but I for one am slightly optimistic that we will get some quality in.
If we identify the correct signings and get them in, with what we already have, then next season could still be one to remember (okay, the happy pills are wearing off now...)

Why on earth would the outcome of the "chat" be made public?
Why on earth would we announce that we have nothing/£3 million/£30 million to spend?
No other club does it. We'd be fools to announce to all and sundry what we have to spend and negotiate with.
I understand that everton fans are naturally curious. But seriously, get real. Accept that its not under your control.
Do yourselves a favour - go on holiday and forget the transfer window.
Our chairman / manager took a gamble on our future by leaving us with one fit striker and no natural wingers. The gamble paid off to a certain extent, and our late season form made it easy for the decision makers to justify the decisions that were made. We dodged that perticular bullet.
A failure to improve our squad this summer would be another huge risk. We would risk losing our top players who have more ambition than being at a club which is seemingly happy with mid-table obscurity: We risk losing our manager (whether you see this as a good thing or not): and we risk losing the support of the most important people at the club, the fans.
Our Chairman needs to understand that standing still is not acceptable. He can't dodge the bullets forever.
Now Charlie Adam is touted as going to Liverpool even though he was a target for us........ ??
When we signed Felli, Bily and Heitinga there were no other interested parties !! I reckon that we will wait until the dust settles and miss the boat !!

Can't believe people are still falling into the trap of believing there is money to spend. After last summer's net spend of £0, this summer will be even worse; i.e. a player will have to be sold to fund any incoming transfers, and even then a large portion of the fee will go to the banks. Surely people have learnt the lesson by now ?
If we end up with a couple of freebies and loans and one £5-8m signing i'll be content.
Trouble is the likes of Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland not to mention Spurs and Liverpool are gonna be chucking cash around.
Oh well...at least we have our integrity....right?

On the otherhand, when Moyes comments about the possibility of going to Villa with 'new challenges for next season, blah blah...' you have to think either he genuinely wants a new challenge or that he's putting Kenwright in a position where he has to back his manager to some extent. Moyes has kept Kenwright out of all sorts of troubles by working to a shockingly small budget and although Kenwright is poor chairman and even worse businessman he's not completely stupid.
Also, we've saved fortunes in wages with all the loanees, got a couple of fees in, tv money has gone up again and there's also the possibility of a big sale, so I hope theres money there.
Then again I'm an eternal pessimist masquerading as an optimist and I remember last pre-season, oh and the one before that, ad infinitum!
